Trainers at a wedding in 2022

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

Hardly.

ArtVandalay · 01/04/2022 20:38

Ballet pumps are the worst-looking shoes I have ever seen. The OP is clearly stylish. AS IF she's going to wear ballet pumps.

Stick to your gorgeous R&B's OP. They will look so trendy with your dress.

SirChenjins · 01/04/2022 20:40

They’re comfy looking - but hardly stylish! Style is v subjective though.

Lottapianos · 01/04/2022 20:43

'Ballet pumps are the worst-looking shoes I have ever seen'

Amen to that. And they give you no support and are miserable to wear

SirChenjins · 01/04/2022 20:47

I guess it depends on your feet

Shinyandnew2022 · 01/04/2022 20:55

@a1poshpaws

Oh sh*t now I have both dress envy - and that dress is totally out-with my budget - AND trainer envy! Envy How could you do that to me, OP?

And yes, yes, yes to wearing them together, they will look absolutely ACE.

Anyway, remember - look to your left - this is how you're going to feel, going forward! Okay? Wink

Love this @a1poshpaws - sorry about the dress envy I am excited to have bought something I know I will want to wear a lot !
@Shinyandnew2022 I am a big fan of the R&B trainers and have 3 pairs in different colours - wear them almost daily. When in "new" condition they are smart and I think would be perfect with a lovely dress. I definitely would if I were you. I'm 46 if that helps.
@1Wanda1 this is great news as I hope they will be comfortable enough to justify breaking the rules and to wear all summer !

@Shinyandnew2022
Wear the trainers, who will even notice. As you say, you are only there as a friend of motb. Not a royal wedding. Be comfortable and look good.

Shinyandnew2022 · 01/04/2022 22:17

Conscious of over posting on my own thread but honestly thanks so much for all the comments - of course it's lovely to get so many positive opinions but I have appreciated everyone's feedback .
I don't mind at all that some people think it's awful - my DH said aren't you going to wear
High heels.
I am a bit nervous one of you will be there at the event and I will be fully outed but hopefully it will be one of the trainer with dress fans and not one of those outraged by my gopping footwear abominations !

SirChenjins · 01/04/2022 22:27

If I’m there I will definitely admire your dress Wink

Have a lovely time OP Smile

We've been to two wedding recently, at the first one the bride wore white docs and the other bride wore white converse.
I think dress codes are so old fashioned and stuffy. I say wear what you want.

Hausa · 01/04/2022 23:03

Love the shoes, love the dress and think you’ll look cool af.

Wiscowoman87 · 02/04/2022 04:49

Darling outfit - dress and trainers both! Go for it!

Iseestupidpeople · 02/04/2022 15:42

My husband and our 2 sons wore matching Vans at our wedding.

ImInStealthMode · 02/04/2022 15:45

Wear them! Our wedding venue is all grass / gravel paths / marquee flooring so we've specifically mentioned 'heels at your own risk' in the details for guests. I'm wearing low wedges, others flat sandals, couldn't care less if people wore smart trainers or converse. I'd rather my guests be comfortable and not stuck in the soft ground or falling on their backsides.

HoobleDooble · 02/04/2022 15:53

My friend's feet at her wedding 15 years ago. She wasn't prepared to spend her big day being distracted by painful feet 😁

That’s too much even for me. Surely she could have found a white pair!
GellerYeller · 02/04/2022 16:08

Please don't buy ballet pumps! That's a fantastic outfit and I hope you feel as amazing wearing it as it looks. We were at a very smart marquee wedding recently and there was more than one posh trainer wearer. Embroidered high tops, blinged-up DMs too. I love the idea it's more sustainable than a one hit wonder too. Have a great day OP.

sonjadog · 02/04/2022 19:55

I wouldn't consider those trainers. Trainers are adidas or asics or the like. They are just flat shoes. You can absolutely wear them to a wedding.

theschitt · 03/04/2022 09:43

Wear them!
There are obviously 2 camps on here, but imagine the camp you belong to are the kind of people that will be at the wedding.
As pp - whoever remembered what footwear somebody wore at their wedding? You are not in the main family photos so no pressure.
Enjoy!
Hopefully this trend of women not having to be in pain or not being able to dance etc because we feel we have to wear painful or uncomfortable shoes is dying out.

Catastrophejane · 03/04/2022 11:36

Those trainers will look great with that dress.

I think trainers to a wedding are totally fine if it’s a fashion thing. ( not grubby old ones!)

But these one aren’t even too much like trainers, so they’ll be perfect!

NeedleNoodle3 · 03/04/2022 11:41

A guest wearing trainers wouldn’t bother me if it was my wedding. In fact I wish I’d worn them to my own wedding. By 6pm my shoes were off and I was barefoot and the wedding didn’t end until 3am!
