Trainers at a wedding in 2022

I have an April wedding to go to - first one in years and am planning to wear a silk midi length dress with some brand new smart flatform trainers in emerald green .

Came a cross a thread on here from 2018 and most posters were appalled at the idea Grin
What do people think - is this ok post pandemic or will I get there and feel judged ?

If relevant I am nobody at this event just a friend of the MoB and I had decided I would liberate myself from the tyranny of aching feet ! It's my first wedding where I have made the generation shift .. but don't want to look too middle aged and past it .

That dress is pretty but quite informal i think teaming it with trainers to a wedding would be too casual but guess it depends on the type of wedding and ages of guests

EmmaH2022 · 30/03/2022 18:56

OP just don't tell my sister the name of the dress, she'll be joking about euphemisms all day!

You will look fab-u-lous!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2022 18:59

Lovely dress. Not sure about the trainers, but if the bride won't care then nobody else should either.

Pbbananabagel · 30/03/2022 19:02

Ended up in silver glitter trainers for my own wedding - sounds like a lovely outfit!

FuzzyPuffling · 30/03/2022 19:09

That dress is bloody gorgeous.

Riverskye · 30/03/2022 19:11

I wore sneakers as the bride to my own wedding Grin like others have said, I can’t even recall what my guests wore.

CarolynMartens · 30/03/2022 19:16

I want to see the trainers too! For me it depends on the venue and style of the wedding but if you think it will fit then go for it. You may as well be comfortable and I think you can still look nice and smart enough for a wedding.

LethargeMarg · 30/03/2022 19:18

Love the dress don't love the trainers and think unless you know this is similar dress code or it's a very hip type of wedding it would look too casual as a whole outfit . I'm not a fan of heels either but you could get a smarter pair of flats or sandals

gogohm · 30/03/2022 19:19

Depends so much on the type of wedding, though even at posh ones people bring shoes to change into after dinner

gogohm · 30/03/2022 19:21

I personally wouldn't though, I'd go midi heeled sandals

LizzoBorden · 30/03/2022 19:25

Fresh Jordans or Air Max would look great!

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/03/2022 19:30

@LizzoBorden

Fresh Jordans or Air Max would look great!
They really wouldn’t!

I think part of the reason I’m in the firm ‘no’
camp is that, personally, I’m a conformist for formal occasions and wouldn’t have the bottle to wear something so different. Influenced by a wedding I’ve been to where the bride wore white trainers and kept hitching her dress up to show them to make it clear she was a bit alternative - that kind of attention is not for me, I’d rather just fit in (in a nicely dressed way), but then again I’m a die hard heels wearer so what do I know?!

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 30/03/2022 19:33

I would admire your style Envy

Formal attire is so passé.

BlackSwan · 30/03/2022 19:37

It's a wedding not MTV awards.
No.

TenoringBehind · 30/03/2022 19:42

I vote no to trainers, but it depends on the type of wedding I guess.

The dress is nice but will look too casual with trainers and so much nicer without.

squix · 30/03/2022 19:47

If you want flat and comfort, how about bright / sliver ankle boots for a tiny bit more formality?

Hatinafield · 30/03/2022 19:51

I was all set to yes no problem and I do think the dress is lovely… but already pretty casual. Which might not matter; is it a fairly casual wedding?

What are the shoes?

AnnaMagnani · 30/03/2022 19:54

Depends on the wedding - I think it would be absolutely fine.

However if it's the sort of wedding where everyone must wear hats then I wouldn't risk it.

LizzoBorden · 30/03/2022 19:56

They really would though Grin

WonderingWanda · 30/03/2022 19:57

I wouldn't be upset by what footwear someone else chose to wear to my wedding or a wedding I was attending. Personally, I wouldn't wear trainers but only because I wear trainers a lot for everyday and rarely get the chance for anything a bit more glam. The fact that they are green makes them sound quite cool and a bit more of a statement than a bog average white trainer though so I think you'll be able to pull it off!

ChloeHel · 30/03/2022 19:59

That’s a lovely dress, but personally I definitely wouldn’t wear trainers with it and wouldn’t be happy if someone wore trainers at my wedding..I’m now going to look through my wedding photos to see if anyone did ha ha!

I went to a wedding last year and the Aunt and Uncle of the groom let their 16 DD wear shorts, a vest and trainers. I was baffled.

Fairyliz · 30/03/2022 20:18

It depends. If you are young and gorgeous like that model it will be fine.
If you are older and fatter you will just look frumpy.
Sorry op

LizzoBorden · 30/03/2022 20:22

I totally disagree! I’m pretty gorgeous - I think - but definitely not young, and I would wear sneakers with that dress. Heels are far frumpier imo

mewkins · 30/03/2022 20:23

Yes, do it. Be comfortable!
