What do you think of this Ghost Wedding Dress?

I’m getting married in September, we are both mid-fifties and have been married before. It’s a small register office wedding with immediate family, followed by a family meal and then an evening party with family and friends. I have toyed with a mid length wedding dress but not really feeling it and my fiancé after chatting about the wedding is hoping to see me in a full length dress.

I really liked this Ghost dress online and managed to order it with a 10% discount. It’s a small which looked tiny on the hanger, and I still can’t believe it actually fitted. It needs a good steam, but does it suit me and my figure or is too hippy?

I like simple styles and unfussy necklines, definitely no plunging fronts. I’m wearing heels in the photo but would get a very slightly higher pair which would lift the length.

I don’t want to make the wrong decision, so would appreciate honest (but kind) thoughts please.

Its a nice dress and you have a great figure, but I can't help thinking you need one size bigger.
Its the way it comes in sharply round about knee/upper thigh level, as if its been stretched out further than intended around the hips; and that its supposed to be more drapey than clingy.

Did it look similar on the model?

It looks great! Hips are a good thing! Try streaming it and consider a silk slip underneath to keep the skirt looking smooth. I think you should buy whatever shoes you will feel comfortable and beautiful in and then get the length of the dress adjusted to suit your height in those heels. Don’t cripple yourself trying to make the current length of the dress work. Change the hem to suit you instead. It’s not usually a particularly expensive kind of alteration.

AllTheSunshine · 17/03/2022 09:14

Yes and with the material removed from the hem, get a thin flat 'belt' made that ties at the back.

mrsprefect · 17/03/2022 09:20

My goodness, you look sensational!

Definitely do not do this - do not add any fussy wee ties to this cool, elegant dress.
RockinHorseShit · 17/03/2022 09:51

Love the general shape on you, so it's close to perfect, but those sleeves are way too "now" & you'll be looking back at wedding photos & cringing at how dated it is in years to come, as people do with the blatant fussy 80s wedding dresses.

Please don’t do this. It will ruin the beautiful line of the dress. If it was meant to have a belt it would have one.

I think you look amazing OP. Beautiful dress and really suits your figure.

TreatTrimTame · 17/03/2022 11:26

stunning. congratulations on your big day

BusySittingDown · 17/03/2022 11:29

Oh my! You look amazing - absolutely cracking figure!

That is probably the look I would go for if I were to get married now. You look stunning, I hope you have a wonderful day Flowers.

Flyinggeese1234 · 17/03/2022 11:30

Absolutely fabulous. Utterly lovely dress on you.

Pyri · 17/03/2022 11:37

Another vote to say it’s gorgeous and an even bigger vote to say absolutely no belt!! Some posters really are stuck in 2007, it does not need a diamonte belt to ruin the line!

Calandor · 17/03/2022 13:56

It's beautiful. You have a cracking figure

Enko · 17/03/2022 14:28

Your hips look amazing and gives you a great hourglass figure

LittleGwyneth · 17/03/2022 18:01

Your body looks AMAZING and the dress is lovely - don't see it dating especially.

GoodSister · 17/03/2022 21:40

Perfect, fantastic choice, you have just the right figure for this dress

KimikosNightmare · 17/03/2022 22:23

@Sidge

You have a fabulous figure but I don't like the dress (but I can see I'm a lone voice really and who cares what I think LOL)

The top is busy, the bottom is bland and with an amazing figure I think you could wear something much more striking.

I'll join you. I agree it's busy and bland at the same time. The waist looks really odd too- sort of rucked up rather than lying flat.
GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 17/03/2022 22:29

Oh, you look amazing!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/03/2022 22:48

Oh, that's gorgeous and suits you sooooo well! I love Ghost dresses.

I don’t understand what you mean by this. There is literally not a wedding photo in existence that doesn’t reflect the era it was taken in Confused.

And it is actually ok to like current fashions.

I agree - remember all those strapless column dresses in the 90s as a reaction to the frills of the 80s? There is no such thing as a classic style, everything we wear references the period we are wearing it in.

I do hate to be one of the few naysayers but I agree with Poxy here. If you could get a size larger you would look amazing. You don’t look remotely big or hippy in this size, your figure is perfect, it’s just the fit that’s not quite right.

I don't agree; I think the fit is fine. It's the style of the dress to nip in. It doesn't look 'clingy' IMO.
jimpamdwight · 18/03/2022 08:38

It's gorgeous and suits you well, you have a lovely figure! It's very flattering

Lndnmummy · 18/03/2022 08:54

OP you look stunning, it is a beautiful dress and you carry it so well. I agree with previous poster, that's the one. You look beautiful
