Can anyone help with a decent alternative for teens?

My issue with buying 2nd hand is the lack of refund...I buy 2nd hand a lot for myself, but generally I look for more sedate items and know what size and style suit me. So if I order a size 10 m&s t-shirt, the likelihood is that it will be fine.
If I order for rapidly growing and completely fickle teen dd, the item might not be right and then I've lost money i can't afford to lose.
