I won’t buy second hand clothes/shoes personally, the only times I’ve done that the condition has been very poor or they’ve been smelly/dirty, never again.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 26/02/2022 22:07

I buy an iPhone and it lasts me until it literally will not work anymore, so yes, not ideal but compared to buying shite from Shein every other week it's the lesser of two evils.

Tillymintpolo · 26/02/2022 22:41

It doesn’t matter how long goods last, it’s hypocritical to criticise Shein whilst buying from companies with similar or worse unethical practices

CryHavoc · 26/02/2022 22:45

@Borracha

Horrible fast fashion shit. Morally and ecologically wrong.
This. A million times this.

Yes it's not perfect and all anyone can do is actively choose to spend as ethically as possible. I've had the same phone for 5+ years and will think very carefully about my next one.
Loyaultemelie · 26/02/2022 23:12

I was pretty dubious the first time but I read the reviews and only bought a couple of items and was really pleasantly surprised. Since then I have bought a few times. I love their jumpers and tops although the reviews on some of the dresses put me off so I haven't. The kids stuff is good too and mine are not exactly clothes friendly

FredAstairesChair · 27/02/2022 06:14

I've had to size up before, so I did the same recently when I ordered two dresses. Despite measuring myself, and using their size chart, they're both far too large! Their returns policy is pretty decent luckily, but annoying.
I agree with posters who've said read the reviews. And yes their ethics are more than questionable of course.

WutheringHeights66 · 27/02/2022 06:17

I bought from them once, just to see, with low expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised. Loved the stuff I got and the quality was fine. Came quick too.

This. Grim. I mean it's fine if you don't give a shit about the environment or about the welfare of the people who make the clothes, I guess.
bcc89 · 27/02/2022 06:38

Don't buy clothes, only on mumsnet Confused

If you can afford to live without fast fashion, you are VERY privileged. I'm really poor.

Shein is good, as long as you spend a long time reading the reviews and doing your research. Mu shops take hours and I always end up with good quality things.

This. Utter exploitation of the planet and other human beings.
Hb12 · 27/02/2022 07:28

And of course it matters how long things last. If you buy something and it lasts 5 years it is vastly better use of resources than something that lasts 6 months, ends up in landfill and then has to be replaced.

liveforsummer · 27/02/2022 07:34

I can't say I've ever bought an item of clothing from anywhere that only lasted six months unless it became stained or damaged and that's not something that's reflective of the price. The cardigans I bought from shein ive had for 2 years now and they are still good as new.

kimbyy · 27/02/2022 08:06

I’ve ordered a few things, it is basically Primark online.

I'm pretty sure Primark has to comply with far more standards.

Can't see I disagree

JMAngel1 · 27/02/2022 08:13

I consistently find it my go to website - I can always find what I'm looking for in a wide range of colours so can multiple buy items that I love. The quality is no different to our high street - I have a jumpsuit from there that's a good 8 years old and still perfect.

Mother87 · 27/02/2022 08:15

Very straight forward - quality ok (i buy a lot of layering/floaty tops/jumpsuits/summer stuff) Prices/returns all good... Sizing ok - a few blips where a Mediums too small in one style/perfect in another...

liveforsummer · 27/02/2022 08:15

@Donson

I would never buy from them - so cheap and tacky.
How do you know that, if you've never bought from them?!
Iamthewombat · 27/02/2022 08:21

Have I really read posts saying, “I’m poor, in my own opinion, so it is ok for me to support businesses that exploit other human beings much poorer than me”?

Did I just read that? Christ.

MsTSwift · 27/02/2022 08:22

Even my teens boycott this company due to ethics - can’t believe grown women buy form there.

Yep

They also avoid paying the usual import taxes other companies can't avoid because they chose to ship individual packages rather than containers.
