I have NCed.
I know this isn't a good angle but is the outfit that bad?
Someone told me it was

Is this outfit awful?
OP posts:
chocolateorangeinhaler · 11/10/2021 18:19

@99victoria

I'm gobsmacked at the number of people saying the OP should wear a 'fitted shirt' and that she might have a lovely figure but you can't see it because the clothes are too baggy etc. Why should she have to show off her shape and figure to everyone?

On a long-running thread about a teenage girl wanting to wear a body-con dress everyone was piling on and saying that the dress is too sexy and shows off her curves too much etc.

Honestly, when we will as women, stop judging other women for the way they look?

Because the OP asked what people thought !!!
Bluntness100 · 11/10/2021 18:23

And that girl was 13. It’s very different to a grown women asking for opinions on style and beauty. It’s not like she was spotted in the street ans some random poster her image for comment. She posted and asked herself

Cruiser11 · 11/10/2021 18:26

Be sure to point out the next ‘awful’ outfit your DH wears.

Chikapu · 11/10/2021 19:13

My husband is free to tell me if I look awful, in fact, I hope he would. I don't want to go out looking like a right dog's dinner when he could have just told me. I'd tell him the same thing. It's the same as telling someone they have lettuce stuck to their teeth, I'd rather know than people being all ridiculously British and coy about it because it's 'rude'!

Morgan12 · 11/10/2021 19:15

Yes.

AmDillDandin · 11/10/2021 19:21

You know sometimes on holiday when the hotel has cheesy 'entertainment' in the bar. They have the guests trying to win prizes by doing stuff like couples swapping outfits and being first back on stage.

That. Grin

someofusdontknowwhy · 11/10/2021 19:39

I think if you lost the jumper and wore a big long scarf looped around your neck it would be a good outfit.

skybluee · 11/10/2021 20:02

I think if you had a plain black (or charcoal) new fitted T shirt under it instead of the blue shirt/beige jumper it would transform it.

TBH even if I cover up the blue shirt at the top and bottom with my fingers it looks loads better (in my opinion). Maybe it's just that that is crumpled so it detracts from the look?

Maybe a black, more fitted V neck jumper would work.

It is definitely not 'awful'

Yet an "influencer" who was mentioned elsewhere on S and B as being an icon wore this so ....

Is this outfit awful?

@DameMaureen

This is better because:
  • It's oversized in the right places (not just baggy and I'll fitting)
  • The colours work together, they're similar tones
  • The materials are heavy and luxurious
  • the shirt and jeans are very crisp and neat

You may not like the look or the items but it's objectively better and more polished.

I mean this politely but the ops outfit clearly doesn’t look like that, I. Any way shape nor form.
TatianaBis · 11/10/2021 21:20

That influencer is very Diane Keaton in styling.

OP is def more a scruffy Ellen.

Some dark blue suede boots, a sharper fitting jacket, a longer crisp white shirt and a smaller fair isle tank - that could have worked.

whatisthisinhere · 11/10/2021 21:26

It depends I what it's for. I would probably wear it and my teens would roll, their eyes at me

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 11/10/2021 21:26

It’s not awful

But just a bit baggy

How do you normally dress?

I have form for going into the garden in shorts and a T, barefoot. Then I get a bit chilly on my feet abd I put on something random (like my DS crocs which are 2 sizes too big or my bright pink fluffy slippers), then the sun disappears and I add a down jacket. Sun back, so I put on a random hat/cap belonging to DH

Then I decide I need to post a letter, and would walk to the post office. See my reflection in the window and think: ah fuck! Grin

I have no full length mirror in the house, do you? Wink

CelebrateAndDream · 11/10/2021 21:55

It's the jumper that makes it look very frumpy. The rest is just...meh 🤷‍♀️ (Chuck the jumper though 🤦‍♀️)

PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/10/2021 22:03

I think it's fine for a spouse to pass comment. Perhaps in a more subtle way than saying it's "awful" though.

I really don't think it's a good look...at all!! More like OP picked up a pile of clothes belonging to a few different people and decided to wear all of it in one go.

honeylemonteaforme · 11/10/2021 22:08

I would wear it 100 per cent.

Maybe the whole combo together is a bit masculine and that's why DH not too keen.

JustBehave1 · 11/10/2021 22:09

It's a bit masculine.

honeylemonteaforme · 11/10/2021 22:11

What I have learned from recent threads is that knitted tanks are a bit of a gamble / tricky to style.

I haven't bought one yet but due to boobage am afraid I will look like I just came from a romp in a jumble sale

MeredithGreyishblue · 11/10/2021 22:12

I immediately saw Sue Perkins. That's not a bad thing.

Bluntness100 · 11/10/2021 22:13

@JustBehave1

It's a bit masculine.
I don’t think it’s masculine it’s just too big or ill fitting.

The eye is drawn to thr tank which looks all stretched and baggy at the waist and neck.

isitweds9thseptyet · 11/10/2021 22:57

I think its ok.
Although id say pretty much every single item looks at least one size too big. I think if the clothes were a little more fitted and slightly less comfy looking it would suit you better

torquewench · 11/10/2021 23:00

All together those clothes look drab and scruffy. The collar/neckline of the shirt makes it look 10x worse. Nothing fits properly or flatters your shape. The first thing I thought was it looks like you've done a trolley dash around a jumble sale.

VenusTiger · 11/10/2021 23:13

It's too masculine for me OP and the white trainers look weird with such a smart jacket - I think it's the combo in general though and the jumper looks like it's seen better days - a bit mishapen.

I'm not suggesting you wear feminine-flowery stuff, but comes across a bit, carsalesman meets student meets farmer's wife.

Hoesbeforebroes · 11/10/2021 23:37

I agree everything would be fine if it fitted you better. I tend to go with the rule of fitted top/loose bottoms or vice versa because fitted everything's a bit much and loose everything swamps me in the way this outfit does to you.

Your outfit is better than that influencer's above though!
