I know this isn't a good angle but is the outfit that bad?
Someone told me it was

Is this outfit awful?
OP posts:
KaptainKaveman · 11/10/2021 13:35

It's very shapeless and frumpy. Sorry.

LyraVega · 11/10/2021 13:35

Its not awful. Its the kind of outfit where if I passed you in the street or saw you out at a pub lunch or shopping or what have you I wouldn't think twice about it.

However because you're asking for a specific opinion I would say it is perhaps one layer too many and agree with the pp who said it reminds me of Sue Perkins. If you're happy and comfortable though then that's all that matters!!

Winederlust · 11/10/2021 13:36

I personally wouldn't wear it but it doesn't particularly stand out to me as an 'awful' outfit (although if you were at a formal/smart event I might raise an eyebrow). Nothing wrong with it, it's just neither here nor there really.

FlorrieLindley · 11/10/2021 13:38

The shirt collar above the jumper is a tad crumpled and untidy looking. Ditto the bit that's appearing below the jumper hem. I just feel it's all a bit crumpled and ill-fitting. I think the jacket would look good with a black top underneath, and black bottoms. It's not "awful" by any means, just a bit ill-thought out.

sansucre · 11/10/2021 13:38

Awful is a little strong, but it's definitely an outfit that hasn't had any thought put into it. In fact, it's not an outfit, it's just a random assortment of clothes you've put on with little to no thought about if they actually match/work well together.

Poetrypatty · 11/10/2021 13:40

Not awful but maybe too much going on. Either just the shirt and jumper or the shirt and jacket might be better, or the jacket and jumper even, perhaps with a navy t shirt under. Although like pp have said, I too am no fashion guru Grin

HarebrightCedarmoon · 11/10/2021 13:42

I like the style of it, but just a couple of changes would smarten it up while still being comfortable.

Some brown brogues instead of white pumps.

Tuck shirt in, don't wear jumper or wear one slightly less long/baggy. So it gives you a waistline.

I think at the moment it's an outfit that doesn't know whether it wants to be smart androgynous style or at home relaxing on the sofa.

TuftyMarmoset · 11/10/2021 13:42

It’s not awful but the top half doesn’t look right. The jumper is too big for you, so with an oversized jacket it all looks a bit too baggy, like you’re wearing your dad’s clothes. And the shirt, jumper and jacket all being pale colours doesn’t quite work either.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/10/2021 13:43

Yes, the shirt is too relaxed and the jumper is a massive fit. It looks like you're wearing someone else's clothes.

With a T-shirt underneath a tighter jumper, the ensemble would look much better!!

lawofdistraction · 11/10/2021 13:43

It's not awful. I rather like the jacket. I do think the shirt untucked under the jumper looks a little scruffy and the jeans are too dark for white trainers.

CeliaCanth · 11/10/2021 13:47

It won’t scare the horses, but I would lose the jumper, change the shirt for a white one or iron the current shirt, and tuck the shirt in to belted jeans.

GreenClock · 11/10/2021 13:52

Have you lost weight recently? The items look a bit big. And creased. The effect is quite scruffy. Sorry OP.

Whoever commented was impertinent though (unless you specifically asked).

Acunningruse · 11/10/2021 13:53

Not awful in the sense as others have said I wouldn't think twice if I passed someone wearing it. However it is not the most flattering ensemble as collectively it seems to drown you. Tucking the shirt in and wearing with brown ankle boots rather than trainers would lift it completely IMHO.

butterflyze · 11/10/2021 13:58

Looks like the sort of ensemble I wear on an average day.

Christmas1988 · 11/10/2021 13:59

It all looks a bit ill fitting and dated. Just a bit of a weird concoction. Separately I think the items may work but send that jumper to oxfam.

ACPC · 11/10/2021 14:00

It's not awful op, just a bit baggy.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 11/10/2021 14:04

It's fine. Dress for your life is my motto. Why worry about being smart if you don't need to be smart. Wear shoes that are suitable for the activity. If it's comfy, suitable for purpose and makes you feel OK why worry?

1forAll74 · 11/10/2021 14:04

NO, its pretty awful, I would never dress that way.

isthisawful · 11/10/2021 14:05

Wow! What a response. Thank you everyone.
I wore it for just pottering about. I'd just walked to the local shop which is why I had the jacket on. It was my partner who said awful. He hardly ever comments on my clothes, and very rarely negatively , so it really stood out when he did on this.

And he was dressed impeccably himself, was he? What a prince.
NotQuiteUsual · 11/10/2021 14:08

Don't love it or hate it. I think it just needs a different jacket.

TwinsandTrifle · 11/10/2021 14:10

OP. You could have the most amazing figure. Because the outfit is so shapeless, you literally can't determine any of the person beneath it.

I don't think it goes together very well, and the pp who said about it looking like a murder mystery outfit has it spot on, but I can't work out what is in particular that does this. But I get that vibe too

MintyGreenDream · 11/10/2021 14:11

Yes sorry

ADreadedSunnyDay · 11/10/2021 14:11

No wonder you were taken aback OP. No need for this from your partner. A tactful person would have said - I prefer that jacket with ... or something like this

theleafandnotthetree · 11/10/2021 14:12

All is ok (though not amazing) apart from the shirt. It's very dull and dated and crumpled and makes the whole outfit mumsy. One or two tweaks and this could be a kind of effortless chic look, maybe with a darker jumper and crisp white t-shirt underneath.
