I have NCed.
I know this isn't a good angle but is the outfit that bad?
Someone told me it was

Is this outfit awful?
OP posts:
AngelinaFibres · 11/10/2021 16:42

You have a nice figure under there. It looks like you are wearing the clothes you owned when you were several stones heavier and you haven't been shopping for a new wardrobe yet to celebrate your weight loss journey.

TrollsAreSaddos · 11/10/2021 16:43

I quite like it. I’d have assumed it was put together very deliberately. It’s a bit Sue Perkins but that’s ok in my books. If you are someone who want to look as slim and feminine as possible it’s not a great outfit but if you don’t care then I think it’s a good choice.

I wear jeans or short skirts and tee shirts 99.9% of the time. I wear the same style day after day. I think I look nice 😅

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/10/2021 16:43

It’s awful. You haven’t got an awful figure by the looks of it either.

Usually if men comment it’s either really nice or really bad.

Burnerphone21 · 11/10/2021 16:44

The only item I dislike is the polo. If it was a proper shirt it would all hang together great.

RosiePosieDozy · 11/10/2021 16:46

It's awful. Very ill fitting and drowns you. Definitely don't go for this outfit again.

AngelinaFibres · 11/10/2021 16:47

The colours are also ' I'm not here, nobody look at me '.

TuftyMarmoset · 11/10/2021 16:50

Sorry OP but the only way the tank top will work is if you pin it (or if you gain weight). It doesn’t look good because it doesn’t fit you and that won’t change by pairing it with something else.

LittleGwyneth · 11/10/2021 16:53

It's not my favourite, but I think it's astonishing that anyone felt it was okay to say that to you. The jeans and jacket would be nice with a plain t-shirt or navy round neck merino jumper underneath.

withlotsoflove · 11/10/2021 16:53

It’ll be fine for the taping of this afternoon’s show Ellen!

Tellmeee · 11/10/2021 16:56

I know tank tops are ‘in’ but that doesn’t look new, it’s too baggy and the colour is bleurgh. I can’t see it would look nice with anything.

Bluntness100 · 11/10/2021 16:56

I’m also curious who said it to you?

I don’t think it looks awful but few would think it looks good. I think a lot of the issue is your clothes dont actually fit you, most are too big, and they are crumpled, giving a slovenly look.

I’m surprised the tank is new, it looks stretched and crumpled too and doesn’t look new.

I think better fitting clothes well laundered would work wonders.

TrollsAreSaddos · 11/10/2021 16:56

I love this look.

Tellmeee · 11/10/2021 16:57

Ellen is wearing a great version of the look.

SapphireSeptember · 11/10/2021 16:58

I don't see anything wrong with it, it looks comfy and warm enough for this chilly autumn day. Why do people expect women to be dressed up all the time?

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 11/10/2021 17:01

Not awful, looks relaxed, comfortable and countryside-y, but I would lose the tank top, your colouring suits the cool grey blazer and blue shirt much more than that oatmeal colour. White trainers, fine, inky jeans, fine if not the most up to date shape.

It's the tank top that lets the side down. Crisp blue or white shirt or good quality T and you're grand.

JohnStonesMissus · 11/10/2021 17:02

Hmm, not awful as such but there's a lot going on! You're wearing a shirt with a collar, at tank top or jumper (can't tell which) and a jacket with baggy trousers, I like the items individually but not all at once, it looks like it's been thrown together.

Bluntness100 · 11/10/2021 17:02

Where did anyone say women need to be dressed up all the time? The op asked opinions on the outfit. It’s style and beauty. If you feel either gender shouldn’t “dress up” then why are you on a style and beauty thread reviewing outfits?
Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 11/10/2021 17:02

And knit in a similar shade for warmth

JumperandJacket · 11/10/2021 17:03

@Phyllis321

It’s fine, a bit Annie Hall. The only thing is the bagginess which drowns you a bit.
Yes, this. I actually really like this look. Would just suggest a smaller size.
Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 11/10/2021 17:04

Also yeah, it would help to have the blazer taken in a bit at the waist and give the collar of the shirt and the Jeans a press just to sharpen it up.

UniBallEye · 11/10/2021 17:06

I can see the look you were going for and I don't think that it's awful per se, the execution of it is a bit off as the clothes don't fit you well enough to carry it off.

I think it also entirely depends on how your dh said it to you...as a real criticism or out of surprise or concern?

I always try to make an effort with my clothes and take a keen interest in style etc but when dc 1 was tiny I really lost my way and ended up spending months in badly fitting, washed out joggers and dh's tshirts etc. Took him ages but eventually dh suggested I might like to go shopping. As I had a wardrobe bulging with lovely clothes I was a bit surprised as I hadn't actually really noticed how dishevelled I'd gotten.

He later told me he was a bit worried about me as it was out of character.

But if your dh is not generally kind and nice then it's crap that he would tell you your outfit was awful.

I totally think you can work the jeans and the jacket and the tanktop separately too.

EmpressSuiko · 11/10/2021 17:09

It’s a bit of an odd combination to me and it al looks a bit too big but at the end of the day you need to wear whatever is comfortable to you!

UniBallEye · 11/10/2021 17:10

@Tellmeee I think the tanktop could look nice over a white shirt (if the shirt was ironed) or a dark denim fitted shirt.

TatianaBis · 11/10/2021 17:12

@TrollsAreSaddos

I love this look.
Exactly. Maybe Ellen’s has a bit more Hollywood polish, but it’s not dramatically different.
MouseholeCat · 11/10/2021 17:13

The biggest issue is fit. If every element was tailored to fit you, it wouldn't be something I would wear but it would be a decent outfit.
