Apparently obsolete fashion rules that you stick with regardless

For me it's 'Leggings must be worn with something that COVERS YOUR BUM'

I'm sorry, even with teenagers with lovely pert derrieres, leggings and top that stops at your waist look like you haven't got dressed properly, and on those of us with less than gravity-defying butts (such as myself) it just looks horribly unflattering, especially if you wear cheapass leggings where the fabric goes all see-through when stretched.

What rules do you stick to, even if out of fashion?

@parentinghelp1

Never show boobs and legs it's one or the other or else it just looks slutty IMO
Polo necked bikinis have never really caught on have they?
Chocolatehamper · 06/10/2021 21:45

Coloured bras under white blouses

Any ensemble created by Lewis Hamilton

StarlightLady · 06/10/2021 21:55

@tearsforfears72 - Leggings are not tights either! They do not have feet, so they are nearer to trousers than they are to tights.

@godmum56

we do seem to keep wandering away from what we will and won't do to judging others......
Wtf are you talking about? Why don't you go off the thread if it's offending you.

If this thread is offending you I feel sorry for you.

Your shoes should never be lighter than your legs.

Oh good, I couldn’t do that if I tried ☺️

Dashinghaberdashery · 06/10/2021 22:24

Is the rule of no black trousers with colourful tops also the same for skirts?

brokenbiscuitsx · 06/10/2021 22:26

Trialling black and a bright colour tomorrow

I actually like black and a colour together. Pastels not so much but nice deep colours like these look lovely.

No diamonds (other than engagement rings) during the daytime

Overtired201984 · 06/10/2021 22:35

Wow some of these I’m really out the loop 🤣 , if you can’t wear a bright top with black bottoms wht can you wear , that’s my work outfit every day , with black eyeliner , a shed load of it ha .

I do hate the leggings thing with a short top , mine is mainly I think it looks bad on the front rather than the bum.

black socks with white trainers and vice versa bugs me , washed white bras that gone grey argghhh

And my personal pet hate is suit jacket with casual wear , and when I say suit jacket I really feel you can see the difference in that and a single bought blazer (blazers can look cool with casual) ….. I know it’s a bit of a weird one from me .

@Echobelly

A PP was commenting about larger young girls wearing unflattering stuff but actually I have to say i love that a lot of the 'rule book' about what to wear for different body shapes has been chucked out and honestly, you can get away with loads when you're a teenager.

I actually love the fact I'm seeing bigger teenage girls and young women just wearing the shorts and the crop tops along with their mates and killing it, rather than in the past where the 'fat friend' might feel stuck with frumpy baggy stuff while their friends got to enjoy fashion.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks that self confidence in young women is a bad thing needs to take a good look at themselves.

I’m sure the saying is ‘blue snd green’

I never heard this one but I agree with it - always wondered why I feel way overdressed when I try diamonds on for day time wear!
WaltzingBetty · 06/10/2021 22:38

[quote parentinghelp1]@godmum56 it's called an opinion. I'd rather not look slutty if I can help it, thanks

It isn't the look I'm personally going for but each to their own

Shame you look like a judgemental misogynist instead.

I know which I'd prefer to be.

@MorrisZapp

Red and green should never be seen
Except on an Irish dancing queen

@Clara91

No white trainers with black trousers or light trousers with black trainers. Doesn’t look right and no one can convince me otherwise.
This 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
parentinghelp1 · 06/10/2021 22:52

@WaltzingBetty yes sorry, forgot how classy cleavage AND mini skirt together looks.

Hmm
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/10/2021 22:58

The 'slutty' and 'cheap whore' comments seem really dated to me. Definitely unfashionable.

cantpooinpeace · 06/10/2021 23:08

No pigtails on an adult woman, doesn't sit right!

Cant agree more with this. Camel toe and buttocks isn't a good look for anyone regardless of size, age or pertness!
Angrywife · 06/10/2021 23:21

I'm very confused at the not wearing colour with black, what else do you wear it with???
Black, grey, navy, are the backdrops to colour surely?

Angrywife · 06/10/2021 23:39

Agreed!

youkiddingme · 06/10/2021 23:40

Never followed a fashion rule in my life and not going to start now. I just wear clothes I like how I like.

I’ve got their book and it wasn’t bright colours - it was never wear pastels with black which is equally bonkers.
