For me it's 'Leggings must be worn with something that COVERS YOUR BUM'

I'm sorry, even with teenagers with lovely pert derrieres, leggings and top that stops at your waist look like you haven't got dressed properly, and on those of us with less than gravity-defying butts (such as myself) it just looks horribly unflattering, especially if you wear cheapass leggings where the fabric goes all see-through when stretched.

What rules do you stick to, even if out of fashion?

No black bras under white tops, or black knickers under white trousers.
Just ghastly 😧

Ddot · 06/10/2021 19:40

MorrisZapp
I think it is, red and green should never be seen except upon a beauty queen.

Sillyname63 · 06/10/2021 19:42

Love black trousers with a brightly coloured top, Trinny & Susanna!!
Lounge wear & Nightwear are for indoors only.
Decent underwear otherwise it you looks as if you have two rabbits in a sack !!

bridgeofslides · 06/10/2021 19:43

You can't wear heels with a hood - unless you are the lady in the Scottish widows ad with her chic cape.

Heels with a hoodie or an anorak looks ghastly IMO

Ddot · 06/10/2021 19:44

Either boobs or legs, both is too much, which is good cos I dont have boobs 🤣

Holothane · 06/10/2021 19:44

we do seem to keep wandering away from what we will and won't do to judging others......

I hope it’s mostly just poorly expressed sloppy language but some people do like to think they wrote the book on what’s appropriate.

As a dancer in the 70s, I was told that leggings were only to be worn in the studio, over your leotard and tights, to keep your muscles warm. They should never be worn outside. I have always followed this and have never ever worn leggings

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 06/10/2021 20:04

Red and green should never be seen unless there's something in between!

goose1964 · 06/10/2021 20:07

When wearing separates, if one half is patterned the other should be plain.

Ddot · 06/10/2021 20:09

I need to hide my thighs

LunaTheCat · 06/10/2021 20:09

You can do anything you want fashion wise - just have good hair, nails that are looked after ( not painted necessarily , just clean and neat) , brush your teeth. Wear what you want - it is you- your attitude to the world, being kind, that matters.
I have broken all the rules ( except the leggings one) and felt great!

BelindaCinder · 06/10/2021 20:10

Never wear stripes with checks unless you’re looking for a job with the circus!

AnnieSnap · 06/10/2021 20:23

I can’t deal with bra straps showing. It took me to probably 40, before I didn’t feel shabby if my bag and shoes weren’t the same colour 😳

Saladcreamormayo · 06/10/2021 20:38

@Echobelly totally 100% agree op about the leggings must be worn with long tops. never look right with short tops not even on children. I always think they look scruffy and half dressed.

Violinist64 · 06/10/2021 20:42

@dworky

All of them should be obsolete. What someone chooses to wear is nobody else's business.
You are right in theory but unfortunately most people, including me, do judge others’ clothing to a greater or lesser extent and whether or not it is appropriate or not for the occasion or activity and the age and size of the wearer. I have never forgotten seeing a woman in Asda, who must have been at least seventy, sporting a baseball cap in baby pink that announced she was a Sexy Babe. Neither age appropriate or flattering. I am in agreement with the need to have an upper garment longer than the bottom when wearing leggings, otherwise it looks as if you have forgotten to put a skirt on and are wearing tights. Finally, as someone who came of age in the eighties, I could never wear black tights and white shoes. We were always told it was the Minnie Mouse effect. By the way, I always thought it was blue and green should never be seen.

When I was young (I'm ancient ) high heeled shoes /court shoes/kitten heels with jrns was considered a "poor" look , like you only had one pair of shoes .
How fashions change Wink

Patterns always look their price . You get a ££ item the patterns will line up better

No Double Animal - though I did wear Double Denim l(ike some PoundShop Status Quo Extra ) last week

I only wear animal prints with black . I know its classed as a neutral but IMO black sets it off nicely .

Look at your bum view in the mirror before you go out - otherwise you don't know what we can all see behind you .

Make sure your tattooes are spelled correctly

I don't need to have seen her to know that she is an icon and indeed a babe.

Whenever I see a teen girl or an adult woman yogi type, who have bum cheeks like levitating peaches I do think 'I wouldn't cover that bum up either'.

Sod age appropriate. Why can't a 70 yr old wear what they like without being judged.

Bertiebiscuit · 06/10/2021 21:00

Totally agree about covering up bum when wearing leggings
I still think trinny and Susanna were right about not wearing strong colours with black
Strong colours with grey is massively better

parentinghelp1 · 06/10/2021 21:16

Never show boobs and legs it's one or the other or else it just looks slutty IMO

and again the judgement
Pigtailsandall · 06/10/2021 21:35

I wore black culottes and a cropped, chocolate-brown cropped top today just to test it. I liked how it looked. I felt like I was my favourite liquorice allsort.

Trialling black and a bright colour tomorrow
