I don’t think know if this is the right place to post this, but why has The Duchess of Cambridge gone to the Bond premiere in fancy dress as Princess Margaret circa 1975?

I love her, but that is a very dated hair choice. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.glamour.com/story/kate-middleton-looked-extra-royal-in-a-stunning-gold-dress-at-the-james-bond-premiere/amp

She looked absolutely fantastic and I hope this is the start of her getting bolder with her fashion choices. She should look on it as her duty to promote emerging British fashion labels!

I didn't like the hair though either. And that's fine! It's just an opinion about a red carpet hair do. I doubt people would be quite so bothered if it was Jennifer Lawrence we were discussing.

Yes I would love this.

I doubt people would be quite so bothered if it was Jennifer Lawrence we were discussing.

It's really odd, is it cause she's Royal & the english go hard on the deference?

likeacandleinthewind · 30/09/2021 21:10

I thought she looked incredible, not just the frock and the hair, everything about her - happy, confident, composed, dignified.

10/10 from me, she has definitely grown into her role.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 30/09/2021 21:14

Made my day. If there ever was an event to wear THAT dress, that was it.

Any other event and we'd say OMG so inappropriate, all that bling, hard times etc.

But the colour of the dress and the gold, stunning.

I wondered about her hair as it was a little hedge dragged backwards but I think - obviously - that was deliberate to give it more body.

Kate's hair doesn't tend to hold styles well - like I know ha - from a fellow person with thick hair - so a little back combing was probably needed and I think it needed to be big to balance the dress.

I'm just jealous as I want to wear head to toe gold but this isn't limited to future queens of country is it? Head to toe sequins could work for...hmmmmm..

I'm going to see No Time To Die on Saturday- maybe I'll whip out that charity shop sequin tshirt in the back of my cupboard 😂

Daniel Craig on the other hand looked a bit down on himself in what looked like a rose corduroy jacket that clashed with the red carpet. However it was his last one so props to him anyway.

I also loved Kates bold look in her magenta suit the next day.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 30/09/2021 21:17

I also really liked the smoky eye she had going on.

DukeofEarlGrey · 30/09/2021 21:35

@MistySkiesAfterRain I also want to wear head-to-toe gold! Hard to pull off down my local...

Starseeking · 30/09/2021 21:45

@DukeofEarlGrey it's not quite the same dress as the Harrods one, so I'm not surprised it's not sold out. Kate's dress with cape is a million times nicer and she looks the best I've seen her. I thought she looked regal and elegant, and hair and makeup suited the outfit perfectly.

babbi · 30/09/2021 21:51

@LyndaSnellsSniff

I thought she looked jaw-droppingly beautiful. And she knew she looked jaw-droppingly beautiful, which gave her extra confidence and she just glowed!
This precisely 👌🏻 She looked stunning . Total knock out … no one else came close to looking so good .

Come on being compared to Princess Margaret is NOT an insult.

She was an incredibly glamorous woman with a beautiful figure who was known for her style. She wore evening wear particularly well.

Rocking stunning evening gowns right from the 1940s to the 1990s.

I'd love to look fabulous enough to evoke a Princess Margaret vibe!

herecomesthsun · 01/10/2021 12:37

I was once told that I looked just like a young Princess Margaret...by someone who knew her quite well...when I visited Mustique.

I was mildly appalled at the time but over the years have realised that she was indeed very glam & beautiful.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/10/2021 12:40

I've never understood the whole Princess Margaret as a great beauty thing. She was pretty enough I suppose but that's about it. Such an awful woman though, maybe that's clouding my view of her.

TertiusLydgate · 01/10/2021 13:25

Princess Margaret was no beauty, but she was very glam in her hey day!

I guess my idea of beautiful must be very different to yours.

There was a programme about Tony Armstrong Jones recently with a lot of film reels of her. I can't believe that anyone would say she wasn't beautiful.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/10/2021 14:27

I would say that when she was dressed up in all her finery she looked striking and attractive. But not beautiful to me. It’s all subjective though.

She was gorgeous when young! Look at her 21st birthday portrait. Stunning.

@Divebar2021 beautiful
QueenPeary · 02/10/2021 10:07

I think PM lived in an age where beauty could be startling, strong-featured and imperious, and not all beautiful people looked the same. I think that still survives with elite models who often have unique faces and looks, but for a lot of people beauty has become filtering and fillering yourself to look like a kind of samey Instagram ideal.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/10/2021 10:56

I think Princess Margaret lived in a very deferential age where her looks were celebrated mainly for being the better looking of the two royal sisters. Having the opinion that she wasn't a great beauty doesn't necessarily mean someone is idealising the filtered and the over-filled.

Having said that I find this thread to be quite deferential too. If a Hollywood star had been the subject I doubt there would have been quite so many angry replies to the OP.

QueenPeary · 02/10/2021 11:03

Hmmm I don't think most people have been angry, and I'm certainly not a royalist, but I agree about people being deferential in the past.

Washeduponthebeach · 02/10/2021 20:05

I think Margaret was beautiful in her twenties. HM looked stunning sometimes as a young woman too. I agree that beauty these days seems to be about a universal look with fillers and Botox and false eyelashes , huge pouts and thick eyebrows. Which is a shame.

Lightisnotwhite · 02/10/2021 21:59

She looked great. Her job is a royal, married to future King. This needs her to make an effort to look the part.
There’s no need to look all edgy. She’s not an Instagrammer.
