What do we need for autumn/ winter?

Bored of summer now. Want to start on my autumn winter wardrobe.
What style jeans? Skinnies are out. Will mom jeans work with boots? What style boots?
A nice trench maybe?
I'm on the hunt for a lovely long hooded cardigan in maybe cashmere too. Want to add to my cashmere sweater collection too.
Anyone anything else to add?

Are you kidding, I've barely broken out my summer clothes / shoes yet after what felt like the longest winter in history!

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2021 08:26

I was thinking this too OP- the coats are already in some stores and I realise that I need to buy earlier in the season to get the most wear abs some good value.

Not bored of summer yet but ready to write a list. It's smaller than my summer list but definitely more expensive. Also struggle in the transition days in sept/Oct/early November.

Should also say I've dropped two dress size (or two or three if in Matalan) so not much from last year!

-cashmere jumper
-fine knit black sweater

  • boots -black leather mid height
  • long 'puffer' coat
  • thermal tights
  • 'sheepskin' lined denim jaacket
  • black converse high tops
  • warm casual dress
  • grey cotton loop hoodie- difficult to find this as they are nearly all cheap polyester fleece lined which is so sweaty 🥵

Have no idea what footwear to wear with ankle grazers either.

MissyB1 · 02/08/2021 08:34

I've gone back to bootcut jeans- perfect with boots funnily enough ha ha! Bought a lovely pair from Fatface.
This winter I would like;
A smart double breasted wool coat.
Warm roll neck jumper - in cotton yarn
Black knee length boots

VenusClapTrap · 02/08/2021 09:26

I tried mom/wide leg jeans last winter and they didn’t work for me at all, firstly because I spend a lot of time in wellies and secondly because they make me look dumpy, particularly when teamed with winter coats. So I’ll be sticking with straight legs.

I might buy an oversized jumper or two.

@cherrypiepie, Land’s End (and particularly their sakes) are great for cotton sweatshirts, hoodies etc. Grey often has some poly in, to get the marl effect in the colour.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 02/08/2021 09:42

I like mom jeans with laced up army boots or DMs, cropped wide-leg jeans with heeled ankle boots that come quite far up the ankle, and full-length wide-legs with any boots!

I need a winter coat. I’d like a high wool content, not black, with big pockets, for under £200, so I’ll probably still be looking next year!

I also want a blue cashmere jumper - I’ve got charcoal and light grey and dark green ones. I’d really like some more fun/quirky cashmere jumpers but they’re either very traditional or very expensive.

EllaPaella · 02/08/2021 09:53

Last year I got two lovely pairs of wide leg cropped wool trousers which I will be wearing this autumn with my black DM boots.
Not sure about jeans, maybe straight leg or boyfriend style, slightly cropped with trainers until it gets really cold. Mom jeans are strictly summer for me as I only really like them with sandals.
I want a really good quality chunky knit boxy black jumper and one really nice cashmere or merino wool jumper in an oatmeal or neutral colour.
I plan on wearing a lot of midi dresses and skirts with boots again this winter. I don't really need anything else and despite it being my favourite season I am going to try not to buy unless absolutely necessary.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2021 10:39

I now fancy a pair of dark indigo slim flare jeans, after reading this thread!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/08/2021 11:12

Love love love Autumn! The weather here is cold and rainy so it feels like it anyway.
I'm not really a summer person as I don't tan and look silly in shorts. I look far better windswept in some jeans, boots and a chunky jumper.

I'm sticking with my skinny jeans, don't really want to buy a load of new ones, and they go well with boots. I love autumn colours and layering and scarves and boots and leather bags Smile. Bring on September!!

SheABitSpicyToday · 02/08/2021 11:15

I’m due to give birth in November so probably lots of loose dresses with warm tights!

I loooove autumn and winter. Hate hate hate summer.

Supersimkin2 · 02/08/2021 11:30

Black polo neck to wear under midi dresses and get more value from wardrobe.

Capacious cashmere shawl = warm neck = warm body.

Am considering black trainers cos it’ll be wet wherever we are.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 02/08/2021 11:35

Have taken a punt on a second hand cashmere and wool camel coat on Depop in preparation for Autumm. Can’t wait to get back in to my LL Bean boots.

Need some more knitwear for work. Could do with a chunky cream roll neck but also wouldn’t mind something a little less classic/safe.

Still going to be wearing pleated midi skirt but could do with some more interesting footwear.

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 11:35

I want a gorgeous high end parka and nothing else!

Bought so much last year, but live in rainy NI and all anyone sees of me 90% of the time is the exterior of my coat and my knees downward.

Thinking of splurging on a Troy parka.

Berkeys · 02/08/2021 11:36

I have too many clothes and definitely don’t need to buy anything new. I can wear what I have and look great.

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2021 11:40

For cashmere, try The Nearly New Cashmere Company. They “restore” used cashmere pieces, so styles, colours, sizes etc are one offs, but prices are great if you find something you like.

Saggybaggyaggy · 02/08/2021 11:42

I've just bought some very expensive jeans so will be wearing them every day to get my money's worth. Straight leg, slightly cropped, fray hem.

I really need a coat.
And a great cardigan. Been looking but can't find one that doesn't cost a fortune. Must be waist length, chunky natural fabric, three buttons, neutral colour. Help!

Also pissed off I haven't been able to wear all the nice stuff I got for summer but will adapt and wear summer dresses with tights.

omgthepain · 02/08/2021 11:47

I went shopping yesterday and got my kids some stuff as all the nice things seem to sell out and I'm going shopping with my friend later this week for me

I love autumn/winter clothes

It's wet and miserable here and nearly September anyway so not buying anything else summery

Saurus72 · 02/08/2021 12:13

I’m anticipating wfh at least 3 days a week, probably more like 4, so I need a couple more warm cashmere jumpers, a few warm and smartish dresses, some riding boots and then in the hope of going out out more, I’ve been eyeing up a midi dress from Tallulah & Hope. Expensive but beautiful and ‘layerable’ with a long sleeved fine wool t-shirt and woolly tights underneath. £800 should do it 😬

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 15:16

WHOOPS I just bought a parka london Cavendish parka in camo. At least it’s less than half the price of the Troy london one!

DGFB · 02/08/2021 15:30

I want some lovely warm lined biker style boots, preferably with faux fur in or similar.
Another huge cashmere wrap from Wyse and some John Lewis cashmere in jewel colours

DarlingCoffee · 02/08/2021 15:47

I’m after some flat boots, easy to drive in and warm, office suitable, anyone got any recommendations?

Also have my eye on anything from Navy Grey….

Feckinlego · 02/08/2021 15:53

Soo tempted by a cashmere wrap but not sure I can pull it off. A larger scarf might be more my style.
Love the midi skirt/ boots look but only knee boots. Don't think ankle boots suit me. Are knee boots still acceptable or are they seen as a bit dated?

I need

A smart waterproof jacket for days out, lunch kind of thing. Nothing casual.

Jeans. Good quality ones. I’ve given up on Next. Not sure what style to get though.

I was looking for boots to wear with opaque tights and skirts but got a pair in our local Next outlet for £7!
