Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:

Frankly, when I talk about clothing, I don't give any thought to people with disabilities. I see lots of them at my excercise classes. But clothing choice is mine... and I wear jeans, T shirts and v neck sweaters almost everyday of my life. How hard do you have to work to find something that excludes you to complain about? I have breasts, on the large side; do I whinge that skinny minnie tops don't fit or flatter me? No! I just don't wear them.

tappitytaptap · 27/06/2021 20:46

@Pinuporc

I dont like "talon" style nails but mainly because I'm curious how you actually do stuff with super long nails - like washing up, chopping up food (without chopping your nails!) putting on contact lenses, counting bank notes, dealing with san pro BlushBlush etc
Ha @Pinuporc I’ve had fake nails once and when I got home, I struggled to get my contacts out without scratching my cornea and couldn’t do up the buttons on a shirt 😂. I have mine done now but just gel on natural nails which doesn’t impede any of my daily routine 🙈
Pinuporc · 27/06/2021 21:08

@tappitytaptap

I have my nails done a few times a year (gels but on my normal nails) I have quite a manual job and think I would wreck any extensions in minutes.i dont especially like the look of them but it's the impractical nature that puts me off as well. I imagine poking myself in the eye putting in or taking out contacts!🤢🤣

Jahebejrjr · 27/06/2021 21:25

@XingMing Everything is politics.

lolacola77 · 27/06/2021 21:34

@edie89. I'm delighted you're happy with your fake lips but please don't for one second think that they look natural!

MythsandSparkles · 28/06/2021 02:29
@XingMing Everything is politics.
Not everything has to be about politics, comments on a particular way of dressing are not about you personally, people saying they don’t like a particular dress style, outfit, item of clothing aren’t saying they don’t like YOU because you wear it.

In the spirit of the thread, I’ll add those truly hideous gym leggings with the puckered swirl on the bum.

I can’t believe they aid your workout in anyway so the pucker has to be there for aesthetics…which is truly naff.

Jahebejrjr · 28/06/2021 08:20

@MythsandSparkles A PP who lectures on these issues explained my point a lot better than I can.

ScribblyBaller · 28/06/2021 11:33

I don’t mind a bit of fakery. It's out and proud glam and seems more accessible than the much lauded French girl natural aesthetic of being really slim and having a flawless complexion! I quite like that Jeanne Damas look but rule no.1 seems to be 'be born looking like Jeanne Damas' Grin

ScribblyBaller · 28/06/2021 11:36

I hate those three quarter length trouser some men wear in the summer. Kind of shell suity material. They just look silly. Wear some knee length shorts. James, not those halfway house monstrosities.

madgirlsinging · 28/06/2021 11:53

Men of a certain age (over 65), or for that matter any age wearing:

Chunky gold chains

Chunky gold rings on several fingers, as well as a wedding ring, if married.

Popcornbetty · 28/06/2021 11:59

"Oh give over. Who, in these days of Primark - not to mention charity shops and EBay - can’t afford more than one, black handbag? This look is usually sported by women wearing decent quality anoraks, too, which are not cheap. As for storage space, how much space do two or three bags take up???I’m all for minimalism and a capsule wardrobe but come on!"

Has it ever occurred to you that they might not give a flying shit about handbags?! It is something to carry their stuff amd and not a fasion accessory ? Why would 3 cheap shit handbags be better to swap around and forget stuff leaving it in other bags! Maybe they just like one decent quality one or trusty bag or whatever. Honestly some crazy comments on here.

Popcornbetty · 28/06/2021 12:00

h*

Popcornbetty · 28/06/2021 12:02

Oh and not to mention you dont know the life of people you judge, what if they are sleep deprived and can't be arsed and just have to get their dcs to school then get to work or wherever? Oh gosh the same handbag, who cares?

letitgogogo · 28/06/2021 12:22

It's naff when people almost make their wardrobe into a uniform, i know a woman thats always wear jeans and a particular designer shirt, one that wear black trousers with a matching bag and scarf of the same colour, and another who only wears skinny jeans with a combo of boots/jumper or trainers/t-shirt.

It just seems so boring like they're not allowing themselves to try something new

EuphorbiaPlant · 28/06/2021 12:39

No offence meant but I find wedding rings naff

peaceanddove · 28/06/2021 13:13

I really, really dislike badly applied acrylic nails and twee nail art. It looks so ugly to me. However, the nail art done at Dry by London looks exquisite.

I love it when people seem to have a uniform,Grin Especially if it seems considered, it makes me think they're happy in themselves and really know what they like
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/06/2021 14:40

Trying to get my head around tights worn as leggings Confused

Struggling to get my head round this one! Do you dislike the institution of marriage or literally just the rings?

No offence taken but I'm interested to know why.
madgirlsinging · 28/06/2021 15:37

One thing I do find a bit naff are people who buy all their clothes from one retailer, for example, Fat Face, Seasalt, Boden etc. Also White Stuff, because, as with the others, they tend to have distinct patterns and colourways.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/06/2021 16:39

"Has it ever occurred to you that they might not give a flying shit about handbags?! It is something to carry their stuff amd and not a fasion accessory ? "

I think of a handbag as both those things, but still only have one at a time. Why would I need more than one?

ArabeI · 28/06/2021 16:40

I wear the skin tight shorts or leggings for yoga. I do wear a cover up or one of those warm-up tops that is lower at the back, but that's only because I wear a short bra-style crop top for class and that, to me, would be a bit much to walk around Sainsbury's in.

Another saying lip fillers. I know of a couple of people who have had very subtle changes with tiny amounts of filler injected. But, in the main, it's obvious and not very flattering, that shelf above the top lip gives it away when it's done badly.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/06/2021 16:41

Fashion is 100% politics whether you like it or not.

It is merely a symbol of socioeconomic and political trends. Aesthetics are important too, but they are linked to changes in society and technology.

Re the bag issue: I have one silver leather rucksack. It’s my only bag. It goes with everything, l don’t do formal wear.

adrianmolesmole · 28/06/2021 16:43

Animal print. Any animal print.
Fluffy slides with socks on
Conspicious designery things esp louis vuitton, MK etc
High heels. I do find I judge the woman wearing high heels these days, it always looks so "try hard" to men. And most women wearing them walk "clumpily" like a man would. I've seen very few women wearing heels and actually looking elegant while walking. And I include myself in that!
