Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:
ScribblyBaller · 28/06/2021 16:49

it always looks so "try hard" to men.

And?

Are men's sartorial opinions supposed to be our guiding light? Get a life.

No, which is why heels looks utter shite

No, that's my point! High heels DO cater for men's tastes, it's why they were invented. They're bloody hard to walk (and run) in, and HURT, but as long as you look pretty to men that's all that matters right?
teninone · 28/06/2021 16:56

Heels weren't invented for women. Heels were invented for men to wear

ScribblyBaller · 28/06/2021 17:00

Maybe that's what you think you said in your initial post, but it's not.

@adrianmolesmole

Animal print. Any animal print. Fluffy slides with socks on Conspicious designery things esp louis vuitton, MK etc High heels. I do find I judge the woman wearing high heels these days, it always looks so "try hard" to men. And most women wearing them walk "clumpily" like a man would. I've seen very few women wearing heels and actually looking elegant while walking. And I include myself in that!
I often wear heals and can walk very well in them. I'm only 5'4 so I will wear a heel of any kind as much as I can. I'm very used to them so wear them well and can walk no problem in them.

Which bit's tripping you up then?
ScribblyBaller · 28/06/2021 17:26

'it always looks so "try hard" to men' can only mean 'men think it looks try hard'? But apparently that wasn't what you meant and you were clearer in your second post Smile

For the record, I hope any heel loving single women who've had a solitary pandemic, have plans to stick those shoes on and get out there to do some seducing.

adrianmolesmole · 28/06/2021 17:47

I meant "man-pleasing", I should have phrased it better!

Onlinedilema · 28/06/2021 18:00

I agree about men who wear rings on most of their fingers. Plus men who wear thick chunky gold necklaces coupled with thick gold bracelets and rings.

MidnightMeltdown · 28/06/2021 21:04

The Mulberry Bayswater bag. Nothing particularly wrong with the bag itself, just that it's been so overdone. Every middle aged, middle manager with no imagination or individuality seems to cart one around like some kind of status symbol.

It's naff when people almost make their wardrobe into a uniform, i know a woman thats always wear jeans and a particular designer shirt, one that wear black trousers with a matching bag and scarf of the same colour, and another who only wears skinny jeans with a combo of boots/jumper or trainers/t-shirt.

It just seems so boring like they're not allowing themselves to try something new
I love it when people seem to have a uniform, Especially if it seems considered, it makes me think they're happy in themselves and really know what they like*

It just shows how people interpret thing differently! Yes i think if someone had a particular style that was what i would consider stylish, then yes I think i would like it. Maybe it's the particular people i know that do it, they seem to lack confidence.

TheVampiresWife · 28/06/2021 22:23

Worst, naffest looks of all are being unnecessarily nasty about others, and ableism.

This thread is as naff as all fuck.

ArabeI · 29/06/2021 12:24

I've just caught up with the whole thread. My Veja trainers have been mentioned

I saw them in Sweaty Betty and thought they'd go nicely with my exercise clothes (not to exercise in), similar to superga but not superga.

Mulberry Bayswater must also be one of the most copied Mulberry bags? I think they're so nice and classic looking, but almost ubiquitous.

The uniform is interesting. If it was someone who had a series of combinations that work for them then I think it can be really stylish. If it's jeans and a hoody every day then it's probably less stylish..

I'd love to be one of those people who has a capsule wardrobe and a cohesive style that's like my uniform. It must remove so many decision making moments from a morning

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/06/2021 12:47

Making wardrobe into a uniform is something to be admired.

These people know what suits them and don’t adopt the latest fads

CandyLeBonBon · 29/06/2021 12:50

These threads always turn into a complete bitch fest

Same @LolaSmiles. I like too many different looks/styles for this to ever work for me, but I’m envious of those who do it. A colleague has five work outfits that she (when we were in the office) used to wear on the same day each week, it was great.

ArabeI · 29/06/2021 12:55

There was an interesting article in the Guardian, a few weeks ago, about people who regularly wear the same same look or 'uniform'

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/may/28/the-people-who-never-change-their-style

EuphorbiaPlant · 29/06/2021 12:58

I'm not against the institution of marriage per se, though there are lots of problematic tenets with it. I find weddings themselves quite naff so rings are a kind of natural follow-on/extension to that.

I just don't really get the point of them. Beyond 'tradition', what's the need to wear one?
This also goes into the fact that they're actually quite boring pieces of jewellery and I don't get why anyone would choose to wear the same piece of really boring jewellery every single day. To me that's like wearing exactly the same pair of little gold studs every day for the rest of your life. Really dull and boring.

Again, no offence meant to anyone. Smile

Popcornbetty · 29/06/2021 13:46

@EuphorbiaPlant you can get married without a huge wedding/ceremony if you wish though. Rings don't have to be boring either! I have such a unique pretty ring set, always getting compliments, actually least boring piece of jewellery i own unlike some other gifted piecesSmile

Oh I know. Unique/different weddings are ace - I went to one in a cold war bunker a few years ago with a fake nuclear attack in the middle. It was an absolute scream. Mainly because it was nothing like a wedding it all Grin I find the 'usual' type of weddings really naff.

I like unusual wedding rings as pieces of jewellery but I still don't really understand wearing the same ring every day for your whole life. Even if that ring is unusual/beautiful/unique etc.

LifeinPieces21 · 29/06/2021 16:02

I don't wear high heels anymore but how can anyone say nobody wears them anymore.

A lot of the glamorous youngsters wear them.

I have a wedding to attend soon and I have no idea what to wear though as I've been in casual clothes since lockdown.

woodhill · 29/06/2021 16:28

@Onlinedilema

Yes I see the Yootha Joyce connection. I always wanted those fluffy slippers as a child but my mum would never buy me any 😢. The other thing I converted was one of those knitted doll toilet roll covers!!!
Oh yes

I think I had a mauve pair of slippers with fur and sparkles and a Pippa doll😊
