@Housewife2010

@ standupsitdownturnaround I like British Beauty Blogger. She always seems very honest.
Sorry off topic but people here seem knowledgable...

Any recs for style? Anyone here have any inspiration? Ideally someone not too glossy. Love low maintenance outfits and stereotypical 'French woman' looks

No idea @OwlIsBeingAnOwl. That's kind of the point. Sali wasn't honest about using Botox - even though she was a supposedly honest beauty journalist! - until people started to call her out on it.

If you know when she said she used it, to be able to say factually she was secretly using it for ages before that time, you must know when she actually started using it.

How can you compare two events and say that one was on a much later date than the other if you don't know when one of the events was?

As I said, I've definitely seen her say, in print, years ago, that she was using Botox. It didn't seem to be a big deal at the time, and to be honest, most of what I've read of her product reviews she says she tests on other people, and as she always says she has the opposite skin type to me, it doesn't matter to me what other treatments she uses as I don't use her skin as a barometer for what will work on mine.
I don't actually care that much one way or another, I just find it a bit galling that anyone can say they know for a fact what treatments people had and when, in order to be disparaging about them, if they actually don't. Happy to be corrected. And again, I'm not a crazy fan, in particular I know all the stuff about India Knight/ her partner is true because I saw it at the time, and don't think anyone comes out of that looking good (but don't want to derail the thread about that as there are other threads on that).

If you've got nothing nice to say then say nothing

So you aren't allowed to be critical of things people have put out in the public domain?

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 29/05/2021 15:01

Back on topic, I'm loving all these grey pics! You're all brilliant!

Those posters are just looking for traffic on the tattle site IMO.

'as well as being a hugely respected journalist'

No shade to beauty writers but are they generally seen as 'hugely respected journalists'? So many beauty articles in the monthly glossies and weekend supplements are just thinly disguised adverts. When was the last time you read a negative review of a product. They're not allowed upset the advertisers by saying, for example, 'I think this new Charlotte Tilbury concealer is a bit rubbish really'. That's why I would question the 'hugely respected' thing.

whitershadeofpale · 29/05/2021 16:49

But that doesn’t make sense when the only people who have mentioned tattle are those trying to state that any criticism has come from their posters.

MarshaBradyo · 29/05/2021 16:51

The grey hair pics on here are more useful as they are natural

It’ll become more useful for SH when it’s not just a dye job which looks blonde-ish

She isn’t grey yet, but will be interesting to see when she is

peaceanddove · 29/05/2021 16:54

Is she a hugely respected journalist? Really? Is she even a bona fide journalist - as I know she didn't even go to university. I don't think Kate Adey ever saw her as competition Grin

What a horrible post. 😠
EarringsandLipstick · 29/05/2021 17:25

And I assume you mean 'Kate Adie' 🤨

Housewife2010 · 29/05/2021 17:43

University? She doesn't have any GCSE's.

By writing about herself, Sali has put herself into the public sphere. If she does not want criticism, negative comments or any interaction with those who do not agree with her, she needs to rethink her subject matter and possibly career.

Is she a well respected journalist? I'm not so sure. She's more an influencer now, and someone whose words I would take with a pinch of salt.

MarshaBradyo · 29/05/2021 18:15

What is it that people are objecting to?

The Botox comments or something else

She is disingenuous. Her hair has not ‘gone grey’. She has had it coloured and has not mentioned her heir extensions.

Also this post is what she would call trolling (ie an opinion on her writing).

I was a big fan of hers until she was very rude to me once - I felt awful and stopped following after that.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 29/05/2021 18:50

When it comes to Sali, people seem to object to everything. The fact she dares to call herself a journalist when she hasn't followed a pathway that is deemed 'acceptable' to this career, i.e. no GCSEs/not going to university. Surely, people can see there are different types of journalist and not everyone is going to be Kate Adie.

The fact that she may have at some point many years ago stated she would never have Botox - and wait for it, she dared to change her mind, and whats more didn't advertise this fact with great fanfare.

I am fairly sure Sali has been quite realistic about what creams/potions are capable of and has never given the impression, implied or otherwise that they will smooth your forehead of wrinkles.

I get that there are some people out there that they don't like. There are lots of people I don't like for different reasons. I just stop watching them. I wonder what it is about this group of people who feel they have to actively go out of their way to hate someone? Why join a thread just to slag that person off or join tattle just to join like minded individuals to pull a person apart and make up a completely false narrative about a person. I suppose I am grateful those websites exist so they are out of the way and they can get on with what they enjoy. I am a bit pissed off when it infiltrates this site.

Yes, I know this is a free site and anyone can say anything within reason, but I do wish they would stay on their own forums.

ThursdayWeld · 29/05/2021 18:51

I don't hate her. I just find her disingenuous and a hypocrite.

I mean, a huge long post about her hair amazing transformation - and no mention of, I assume, changing the colour of her hair extensions? Or getting new extensions? Or what?

She’s a journalist and she writes well. It’s not necessary to go to university to be able to write well. Caitlin Moran didn’t either - I suppose she’s not a bona fide journal either? They’ve both got NUJ cards.

Actually I don’t think Kate Adey did go to university. Kate Adie, on the other hand, may well have. Not that a university education has much to do with what makes someone a good journalist.

That’s uncalled for.

@BradleyCooperwillbemine

'The fact she dares to call herself a journalist when she hasn't followed a pathway that is deemed 'acceptable' to this career, i.e. no GCSEs/not going to university.'

No, this isn't why I question her journalist pedigree at all, and nor have I questioned her right to be a journalist. I just think she's a terrible writer, not least because her Guardian column reads like one long press release.

I concur with @ThursdayWeld

'I don't hate her. I just find her disingenuous and a hypocrite.'
