She's a very attractive woman but I think it's going to look extremely odd when her brown roots come through. Quite an odd choice when her t zone is brunette. Looks incredibly damaged at the ends too - you can see it next to the black sweater.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 30/05/2021 10:18

This is a vile snobbish thread.

People are wanting to hang Sali Hughes. And her crimes? Being beautiful, successful, hard working and talented.

You sound very invested.

I must be missing something, because compared to things I've seen here about some other 'celebs', I haven't read anything that bad -a bit catty maybe, but hardly a lynch-mob.

For those moaning about people supposedly coming over from Tattle, you have actually drawn attention to a site, that I for one knew nothing about, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 30/05/2021 10:22

I can't understand the posters who say about the cost of maintenance. She said she didnt pay for it and she had to use a different shampoo brand. Where is the cost?

Her before photos show that most of her hair was still her original dark brown, so as that grows through she will have lots of dark roots; it's not all suddenly going to have turned grey, so she will have to keep bleaching, probably for many years until it is grey throughout.

MarshaBradyo · 30/05/2021 10:24

The regrowth will be tricky and hard on the hair as you’d have to do it often

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/05/2021 10:25

@Cocolapew - sorry, I don't understand. Am I missing something? Her regrowth is much darker than the grey in a photo on her insta meaning she'll have to bleach that to have it match up. It looks just like grey root growth, but in reverse to me.

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/05/2021 10:29

Just thinking back to when I was looking to grow out the dye, my hairdresser warned against bleaching and dyeing it grey because it was impossible to tell what my natural grey was like all over my head and the regrowth would potentially look just as bad as just stopping dyeing it dark.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 30/05/2021 10:31

@WeAreTheHeroes You're right, her regrowth will be mainly dark brown, with a bit of grey, because that was the colour of her hair before the treatment, so will need regular bleaching.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2021 10:35

@San9ro all you've done on this thread is slag people off for their opinions. You've not answered any questions.

Oh yes I see what you mean. She's going to end up with brown roots on 'grey' hair.

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/05/2021 10:40

I don't know the woman and had never heard of her before this thread. I can't help thinking that the going grey earlier than is natural with all the same regrowth issues that dyeing your hair darker than it is naturally has is just unnecessary. The fact she hasn't paid for it might have something to do with it and I'm wondering if she will continue with having it done.

DameDoom · 30/05/2021 13:33

Do we have a colourist who is our answer to Jack Martin? Do you think his was the look Sali was aiming for? I am surprised she has gone so far and it certainly looks like the condition is now completely wrecked.

Still, I suppose getting it gratis must be a small crumb of comfort.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/05/2021 14:28

Just looked up Jack Martin. He seems to know what he's doing. Some of the before and afters are mind boggling.

Can we all chip in and fly him over for a few jobs? Grin

PuppyMonkey · 30/05/2021 14:36

Jack Martin is amazing but I've noticed a few of his posts are about clients coming back a few weeks down the line to get the yellow tinge taken out of their previously dyed by him hair, so I'm guessing it takes a lot of effort with toners etc to keep it looking pristine.

You might as well just go cold turkey like us paupers.Grin

Cocolapew · 30/05/2021 14:40

JM costs a couple of thousand dollars, we might need more than a few to chip in Grin
He admits the hair needs upkeep. He did a post once about what a client looked like after a few weeks (months?) and what he did to revive the colour.
Its a costly business going down the dyeing root.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/05/2021 14:43

Oh well, I might have to stay the stripy brassy pleb that I am.

Clairol, here I come. I mean, what can go wrong?

Cocolapew · 30/05/2021 14:45

😅

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 30/05/2021 15:10

@CeeceeBloomingdale

I love it and think she looks amazing. I went natural a few years ago and my natural colour is quite similar so yeah I probably would say that, grey comes in lots of shades and tones.

Like Sali I have developed allergies to hair colour which means I couldn't maintain my natural brunette as allergies to hair dye can be fatal. I'd rather be alive than have good hair in my coffin. To be fair I love my hair now, its softer, left frizzy and I receive a lot of compliments on the colour. I would need to dye my hair weekly to cover root regrowth whereas now I occasionally use a silver shampoo which takes no more time than just using a regular shampoo. I can't understand the posters who say about the cost of maintenance. She said she didnt pay for it and she had to use a different shampoo brand. Where is the cost?

Can I ask how old you were when you developed the allergies? It sounds terrifying. Just wondering how common it is (and I would always insist on a patch test before putting any colour etc on my hair!)
WhereAreWeNow · 30/05/2021 17:17

I think she looked lovely brunette and she looks lovely with the new grey look but I just can't get my head round how the regrowth/maintenence will work. Surely it'll be higher maintenance?

TheBullfinch · 30/05/2021 18:21

I'd say it's ash blonde, not grey, it's also two-toned where theyve had to colour the dark ends.

It'll be interesting to see how she adspts her make-up and wardrobe now that her contrast level is medium to low, instead of high.

I think she's beautiful though and will look amazing whatever she decides to do with her hair.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/05/2021 06:01

@OwlIsBeingAnOwl Mid 30s having dabbled with dyes since a teen. Even though I've been dye free for years I still have a patch of psoriasis on my scalp that started as a result of colouring that never heals and constantly itches and gets sore. I have to avoid a lot of products that aggravate it. I started imagining my children growing up without a mum as I'd been too vain to stop colouring my hair and had an allergic reaction. I was home colouring every fortnight and although I didn't get to the stage of having a hospital trip due to an anaphylactic reaction, just the skin reactions, I'm still living with the damage caused to my skin. I think it would only have been a matter of time though as the reaction was becoming more severe each time.

PrincessNutNuts · 02/06/2021 18:10

I like the After photo much better.

The softer contrast and little fringe are really flattering and modern.

I've stopped having highlights because having grown them out a bit over lockdown I like my minky mouse colour threaded with silver much more than anything bleached and yellowy.

I workout and wash my hair every day so twice a week toner would be necessary and ain't nobody got time for that!

So I really couldn't commit to what she's had done.

It looks lovely though.
