@sansucre

I think she looks great with grey hair, however the style does not work and she needs to soften her brows too. But it is so much better than her dyed brown hair which was too solid in colour and looked dreadfully wig-y.

I'm actually doing the same as Sally. I got tired of maintaining my roots and lockdown gave me the perfect opportunity to stop dying. Am much happier now the white has come in, it's been easier to embrace it and am glad to have escaped the tyranny of having to do my roots every six weeks.

The before picture is her natural colour. She says in the article that the PPD allergy has meant she hasn't been able to dye her hair in a decade.
Blossomtoes · 28/05/2021 17:13

I always had a lot of time and respect for Sali, I met her once and she admired my grey hair so I was obviously a bit biased! But she recommended good products and was really relatable. I do think she’s lost her way a bit in the last couple of years which is quite sad.

Same here but I'm not mad on it.

Ij just love the freedom of not dying and I think I have more regrowth

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/05/2021 17:19

Her natural hair was beautiful on her and really set off her striking pale eyes

LarkLaneLove · 28/05/2021 17:19

Don't know which poster you're referring to but no, that's not me.
She said she's never do paid partnerships years ago (in her book or a column, can't remember), can't link as have no idea where, but was surprised the first time she did a paid partnership on insta. I'd previously trusted her recommendations but once paid partnerships come into it, it's not the same as an honest impartial review.
She was definitely not transparent about her use of Botox for a long time - did admit to it eventually but it's misleading if you're implying that creams / serums to have a certain effect which will never be achieved without botox.
Am well aware she lists the things she pays for, never implied she was lying about that. What I was saying is that, if you write a book called "Pretty Honest" and claim to be impartial, there is then a massive conflict when you start shilling as well. You can't claim to be impartial if you're getting paid to promote a product.

Serpenta · 28/05/2021 17:23

I suppose these days with print media drying up options are more limited, and if Hush offer you £20,000* to promote their brand in five Instagram posts it must be mighty tempting. But you can't then claim not to be an influencer.

*I've no idea how much brands like Hush offer influencers, just using them as an example as they're a brand that really seems to go in for this kind of advertising.

So you’ve dyed yours like she has?

In places, yes. Like Sali, I'm 30% grey. I had 4 inches of hair chopped off and an inch of previously dyed hair at the ends were darkened as the colour had lifted so much they were on the orange side. (If I would have cut more off my hair, I would not have had to use dye at all.)

As I am much greyer than Sali at my temples, I did not have any highlights. That said, I am due to have a few more white baby lights added in in a few weeks time.

Ah so you have a bit of a head start on her, then? Good luck with it!

sansucre · 28/05/2021 17:39

@RickiTarr

I guess so!

Like Sali, my grey is all around the temples and underneath, so when my hair is tied up, you really notice it the grey. (Actually, it's more white). However, when my hair is down, then you just notice the salt and pepper. It doesn't look nice, so totally understand why she opted for what she had done. (And this is why I am having more white added in, to break up the salt and pepper.)

Ah, sorry, misunderstood when you said she "never, ever pays for anything (hair, facials etc)".

thecognoscenti · 28/05/2021 18:22

I don't think it looks great - to me it looks pale blonde, not grey. Going grey to me means letting your greys come in naturally, not getting a lot of highlights done. If she's happy with it though then more power to her.

Also agree that I'm not going to take recommendations from someone who is paid to say they like certain things.

Cocolapew · 28/05/2021 18:23

If the brown is her natural colour why on earth did she bleach it? The grey would have come in naturally without a decarmation line Confused

Long before she finally had to admit it. It was all down to creams and serums before then Hmm
standupsitdownturnaround · 28/05/2021 18:37

I'm disappointed this is a high maintenance look - absolutely hate the constant upkeep with highlights.

I think she looks very nice and sleek and groomed but suspect it's a look which will only work for someone who dedicates loads of time to beauty treatments.

I long for an easy day to day product which I can use just for greys

Cocolapew · 28/05/2021 18:41

If you've bleached you use a toner to turn the bleached bits grey. The toners I've used at home can be very drying though.

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 28/05/2021 18:41

When, then?

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2021 18:43

It looks dyed almost blonde, so I’m guessing it’s not natural

Nightbear · 28/05/2021 20:07

’I long for an easy day to day product which I can use just for greys’

If you’re blending greys with blonde, the L’Oréal root spray stuff is really good (don’t spray it on fabric though because it stains). A friend used it on their white-grey roots over lockdown and it looked seamless. Unfortunately it’s nowhere near as good a match for darker brown shades.

MilesOfSand · 28/05/2021 21:07

I like the hair. For what it’s worth though, I've seen Sali giving her opinion (to her thousands of followers) about other people’s output. An Esther Walker article for example.

So. Much. Bottox. 🙈

honeybuns007 · 28/05/2021 21:56

@Serpenta

Your link isn't working for me www.vogue.co.uk/beauty/article/sali-hughes-grey-hair

I think she looked better beforehand. The silvery strands through her brown hair looked really attractive.

Personally I don't see the point in 'going grey' (or in her case dyeing one's hair grey) if it means you're going to have to spend so much more time and money on it when her natural hair seems to have required minimal upkeep.

I think she looks far better now and way cooler. The extra effort is only required until the old coloured stuff has grown out. Once she's there, it will be very low maintenance. No more going back in very few weeks to constantly get roots touched up. Coloured hair ends up looking harsh as we age.
Serpenta · 28/05/2021 21:58

@honeybuns007, but her brown hair wasn't coloured. That was all natural. And your natural colouring never ages you.

Nightbear · 28/05/2021 22:30

’So. Much. Bottox.’

If botox could make me look like her I’d be making an appointment tomorrow. She is attractive and has good genes and has had Botox treatment that’s been done well. She doesn’t look puffy or have that odd, overstretched, sweaty cheese quality to her skin that comes with too much filler/Botox.
