@MilesOfSand

I like the hair. For what it’s worth though, I've seen Sali giving her opinion (to her thousands of followers) about other people’s output. An Esther Walker article for example.
That article was a disgrace.

I can't see that Sali did anything wrong there.

MilesOfSand · 28/05/2021 23:31

@EarringsandLipstick I disagree. But here we are, having a discussion about our opinions on something somebody wrote online.

TheHoneyFactory · 28/05/2021 23:54

this thread took a odd turn but i am looking forward to seeing if/how her make up changes/what she wears. I'm similar colouring, stopped dying my hair last august, have prominent white streaks/ undergrowth hair at the temples like her. i like the dye all grey option but cant afford the cost/time upkeep. Im only in my mid 30s (been going grey/white since 19) so I feel like I need to step up my makeup game to stay looking young my age?
i have no idea what I'm doing tho, I just couldn't face another possible 30 years of dye

I googled and found the Esther Walker article. It's very badly written and quite a few people were annoyed about it not just Sali Hughes.

This thread hasn't taken an odd turn, it's exactly as it always goes on here whenever Sali is mentioned. Certain bitchy people come over from tattle life and start bringing up her use of botox or whatever, or the fact that she receives payment for writing - shock horror. Its boringly predictable.

That’s not really happened here though. The thread was derailed by people claiming that any criticism of her must be from people off of tattle and using the claim that she suffers from trolling as a way of shutting down any discussion about something she’s chosen to put in the public eye.

For what it’s worth I think people have reached a stage where things she says are pounced on and overanalysed, but she’s created a totally false narrative and tried to shut down any discussion over the fact that she’s clearly made a decision to move towards being an influencer. That’s fine but own it and accept that if you’re going to use yourself for click bait and ad revenue then you will be discussed so grow a thicker skin!

Trolling is a horrendous thing but I really hate how the word (and ‘be kind’) is now being used to describe and shut down any criticism.

TheHoneyFactory · 29/05/2021 10:55

Yeah well now after spending my Saturday reading up on what some of these other posters have shared about SH i am pretty gobsmacked at her screeching troll when she herself has been revealed to have engaged in some pretty shit behaviour online. (how does she still have a job in media after the dawn oporter bullying?)
Im not in the UK so a lot of her recommendations were tricky to get hold of but i liked reading the guardian online and loved her in the bathroom series and books.
i was annoyed at how more 'influencer' & less journo she had become (mainly because the products were so expensive or completely unavailable to me). Now I'll just unfollow altogether.

Greyhairdontcare1982 · 29/05/2021 11:14

I’ve been going grey since I was 19ish. (My DD who is 17 found her first the other day, she was furious). I’m now 38. I completely understand that whole transition is an utter ballache. But that to me looks like an interim step on being proper grey, she can’t keep that up surely, it’ll be relentless, however it should make the transition itself easier for sure. Grey always blends better into lighter hair.

Gratuitous hair pic because now I love my hair and I’m so pleased it’s almost al grown out (18 months of growth in this pic)

It's lovely @Greyhairdontcare1982 especially in the second photo where it has some curl at the bottom.

TheHoneyFactory · 29/05/2021 11:23

your hair is fantastic @Greyhairdontcare1982

@Greyhairdontcare1982 your hair is so nice.

DeclineandFall · 29/05/2021 11:46

I'm 50 and now have blocks of grey hair at the temples. It looks shit. I get my hair highlighted and my roots done in a sort of warm blonde as any lighter and I look totally washed out- I'm v pale.
If I went totally grey I'd then need to wear a fuck load of makeup everyday or get a fake tan. That's more upkeep than getting my hair done every 6 weeks.
Sali can probably get away with the grey because she has a warmer skin tone or just can be bothered to put all that effort in every day being her job. Me, I'm just a lazy slattern.

PuppyMonkey · 29/05/2021 11:49

This is what mine looks like going cold turkey from dark brown to grey. I stopped the dye in July last year. What Sali probably doesn’t appreciate is the grey doesn’t come through as a single demarcation line, it comes through like highlights from underneath and blends in as your dark hair dye fades. Well it has for me anyway!Grin

FWIW I was a big SH fan and she was my introduction to beauty really.

She isn't someone I follow any more for the reasons other posters have mentioned. Most importantly she's an influencer so her recommendations are presumably based on financial incentives. I realised this after I'd spent loads of money on duff recommendations.

The wiki on TL is a must read to see why some old fans feel disillusioned.

TL in general is good if you feel caught up in trying to keep up with an Instagram worthy lifestyle. Against my better judgement I always want to look as good as the influencers and it helps me loads to see people point out where things are photoshopped, who is lying about what. It's a level of genius I couldn't comprehend before and I'm grateful there are people deconstructing that form advertising which I feel is bad for especially teenage girls.

I've not really found another beauty guru as good as she used to be. Except Temptalia for honest and detailed make up reviews.

Does anyone else have a go-to person who seems to give honest advice for the 40+ age group?

PuppyMonkey · 29/05/2021 11:54

This is gorgeous.

All the posters so far have had amazing hair.

Blossomtoes · 29/05/2021 12:02

This is mine. I stopped colouring it when I was 43 so I’ve been grey more than a third of my life. I found my first grey when I was 16. The whole point of embracing the grey for me was to stop spending hours and £££ at the hairdressers.

And yes you do have to change your make up - I look like a ghost with none - but most of us do that anyway as fashion and age affect us.

Ooh it makes me all excited to get to the end seeing all of you who’ve gone fully white/grey. Fantastic.Smile

TheHoneyFactory · 29/05/2021 12:14

thankyou to all sharing your lovely locks. its very inspiring to those of us just at the start of the process. there have been so many moments I've almost given in and bought a box dye. I really want to see this through but I waiver sometimes.

@ standupsitdownturnaround I like British Beauty Blogger. She always seems very honest.

ThursdayWeld · 29/05/2021 12:51

@OwlIsBeingAnOwl

Long before she finally had to admit it. When, then?
No idea @OwlIsBeingAnOwl. That's kind of the point. Sali wasn't honest about using Botox - even though she was a supposedly honest beauty journalist! - until people started to call her out on it.

Which is why I'm also interested that, in a big post about her hair transformation, she hasn't mentioned that she has hair extenions.

Me too, she's great, and seems a lot more pleasant to deal with than SH
