It is going to be a nightmare to maintain in terms of time and cost both.

Dozer · 26/05/2021 22:36

It just looks yellow.

Looks like her hair had v little grey. The suggestion seems to he that partial, slowly becoming more, grey natural would be a bad thing, well at least look bad.

Dyeing it all grey is still just dyeing.

borntobequiet · 26/05/2021 22:41

This hair is grey (and could do with a wash, sorry). Hers isn’t.

Your hair is beautiful @borntobequiet - the colour is glorious. Sali Hughes should aspire to that!

Serpenta · 26/05/2021 22:57

Your hair has a lovely gloss, @borntobequiet, which will be hard for Sali H to replicate on her dyed hair.

borntobequiet · 26/05/2021 22:59

Ah thank you Judy! There are few consolations for getting old but the hair colour is one for me! My “natural” colour was dark brown with some almost auburn streaks (more in the summer). The streakiness seems to have persisted into the grey.

borntobequiet · 26/05/2021 22:59

And Serpenta!

GucciJackie · 26/05/2021 23:01

She looks great. I'm 50 and my hair isn't grey enough to look good. Grey enough to look old though! I love her hair.

Zebracat · 26/05/2021 23:03

I love her hair. I think the process was explained beautifully and the upkeep issues were acknowledged. And, as someone with the same allergy issue, I was really intrigued to read and watch this. Also, she is not an influencer, she is a journalist with a portfolio going back decades.

DeRigueurMortis · 26/05/2021 23:11

Well personally I really like it and think it suits her.

My hair is a similar stage of "grey" to her natural colour but I'm blond so it's fairly easy to use highlights to pull it all together (if expensive) and keep it looking (an increasingly lighter) blond.

I'm sure I'll reach a tipping point at some point in the future and actually think I'd probably do the same as her and switch from blond to grey.

Serpenta · 26/05/2021 23:14

Also, she is not an influencer, she is a journalist with a portfolio going back decades.

She does a lot of paid ads on instagram, I would classify her as an influencer.

Mine was and has done exactly the same, though is changing very slowly. First white hairs appeared at 17, slowly increased, eventually replacing all the red and black hair strands and now in my 50s, it's still quite dark with salt and pepper and the odd silver streak. The colour it looks depends on how much gel and curl cream is in it. It's quite mousy looking without but when the styler has held and the curl retained, it still looks dark with sparkles.
SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/05/2021 23:16

Not gone grey at all, she’s had blonde highlights.

Nice, but not grey at all, so bollocks, basically.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/05/2021 23:19

I think she is definitely an influencer now! Some of the ads on Instagram are hysterical - Fit Flop shoes, for example. I guess she wanted to diversify as print media slows down, and paid partnerships are very lucrative.

For sure.

She used to write some excellent journalism.

I dyed my hair silver/grey a few years ago with a permanent dye over bleach. If you bleach it and tone it to grey it fades. Jack Martin the colourist does amazing grey dyes but the hair is bleached a lot before hand.

Wow. Fabulous.

Thank you Smile it's nice not having it snap off anymore Grin

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 26/05/2021 23:47

I think the video here shows it a lot better and explains what she had done:
www.instagram.com/p/CPKjGuXn8KW/

The piece is an interesting read, explains why she can't use a lot of dyes, and her terrifying experiences with PPD should be used as a cautionary tale to ALWAYS patch test!

ThursdayWeld · 27/05/2021 07:43

Does she mention that she's also had hair extensions put in?

spotcheck · 27/05/2021 07:51

(grumpy bugger alert)

I hate this whole ' embrace the grey, be empowered' crap.

It is always accompanied by a pic of an exceptionally beautiful woman who goes grey. Afterward ( spoiler alert) she is still exceptionally beautiful.
😂

MrDarcysMa · 27/05/2021 07:59

I think it looks blonde/ highlighted tbh.
She's very attractive and looks great whatever she does to her hair ! She has a budget for lots of treatments and Botox and expensive haircuts - she's always going to look good.
Agree she is an influencer these days - lots of ads - why wouldn't you ? Seems like a nice line of work if you can get it.
