Any hairdressers? Orangy roots!

So I was quite blonde anyway but with dark stretched roots so thought I'd to blonde all over. I used high lift from Sally's and 9% but the roots are a tad orange! Any advice?? I've tried purple shampoo on dry hair. I was going to try 12% on the roots tomorrow if anyone can advise if this will help?

I don't think it looks that bad so I would maybe leave it until you can get into a salon again? Unless you need it to look perfect for an event.

Your hair before with the roots looked nice - it's fashionable at the moment to have darker roots which is helpful if you can't get it coloured all the time!

Roominmyhouse · 15/05/2021 23:15

Just seen your pic, you are a 5-6 depth looking at that. Highlift is probably never going to get you that light unfortunately.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 15/05/2021 23:16

@shouldistop no she didn't bleach it. High lift is colour not bleach.

'High lift' is the name of Jerome Russell's bleach product, its not like normal high lift I don't think. Its just bleach.

OP, I bleach my own hair at home successfully. I agree that you need to bleach again, but don't use 12% as it can really damage your hair, use the 9% and just leave it on for longer, how long did you leave it on initially? I actually use 6% 20 vol bleach and just leave it on for quite a long time (I use Schwarzkopf BlondMe which is pricey initially but a tub will last forever and its a great bleach).

Also, if you mixed Olaplex into the bleach that will dilute it a bit I think (I learnt that from Brad Mondo, I learnt most of my bleaching knowledge from him! 😂).

But essentially, your hair just hasn't lifted light enough yet which is why it is still orange, so go again (with caution!)

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 23:18

@Letsgetreadytocrumble I left it on for 50 mins but maybe should have left it longer as I feel it's not that far away from what I would be happy with! My roots were really dark so I think it has lifted quite a lot x

Oh sorry, I thought in your OP you had said it was Jerome Russell 'High lift' bleach but if its from Sally's it might be something else - high lift is generally for already quite light hair and doesn't lift like bleach does I don't think (disclaimer I'm not a hairdresser!)

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 15/05/2021 23:24

@roughrug

As a hairdresser the best advise is ....

Don't colour your own hair!

I know why this has happened but it's taken years of training so I'm not going to give my knowledge away!

People really do think it's easy!... until it goes wrong

I'll be looking forward to the commentsSmile

Good luck!

I do think you should apologise for this post roughrug it was really uncalled for, especially the rather nasty 'good luck!' at the end.
Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 23:25

Oh gosh I'm in a right tiz 😂 I thought if i re did it that it would become lighter. 🙈 Although I think we all know now I am not a hairdresser 😂😂

I was also told by another hairdresser that mixing with Olaplex can take longer; she used SmartBond by L’Oreal but I think that is only available to professionals.

Claire347 · 15/05/2021 23:35

It really annoys me when someone asks for help and there is always someone to point out ooh you shouldn’t have done that...the writer never asked if she should do something she asked for help when it went wrong.... it’s maybe the wind all the way up on that horse which caused you to misunderstand the question.

You could try a toner on the roots? If it doesn’t work out it’s fine it’s a toner so it will eventually wash out xxx

Any hairdressers? Orangy roots!
lovescaca · 15/05/2021 23:38

High lift will give you a warmer tone, it's not going to give you the very light blonde you have at the ends. Yous should have used bleach and peroxide then applied a toner to cancel out any warmer tones. X

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 15/05/2021 23:41

What will happen if she puts bleach on high lift though, she can do that can't she?

lovescaca · 15/05/2021 23:45

Get powder bleach and 20% vol peroxide. Apply to orange bits only, try not to touch the lighter bits. Then a purple shampoo will do the trick x

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 23:51

@lovescaca is the Jerome Russell's produce that someone else mentioned what I need? X

lovescaca · 16/05/2021 00:06

That's powder bleach powder yeah u can use that. But you need to buy the developer separately. Jerome russle do, do developers but I'm sure 30% is the lowest they do. I would go for 20% for u. U can just buy the 20% in the same brand you have the 30% in. But how do you normally get your hair done? On the scalp? Foils? X

AyyMacarena · 16/05/2021 00:07

I've paid £100s at hairdressers and never been happy. I recently discovered the bleaching kits by Jerome Russell and I have got my hair to a perfect colour, myself, for a smidge of the cost.

This also happened to me. I simply waited a few days, rebleaxhed and left it on for longer and then used a toner.

Obviously, I worried I would lose all my hair but honestly, I won't be going back.

lovescaca · 16/05/2021 00:08

Let's see a pic of your full hair. X

AyyMacarena · 16/05/2021 00:11

I use this one. It has the powder and mixer liquid. My roots are extremely dark.

If u put it on ur scalp it will be very blonde for a week or so until ur root breaks Through again. Also you need to finely section your hair so ur getting the product on evenly while trying to not touch the already very light blonde bits. X

Mammaaof · 16/05/2021 00:13

@lovescaca I usually get hundreds of really really thin foils takes hours 😂

OP posts:
Mammaaof · 16/05/2021 00:14

@AyyMacarena brilliant! Do you just use it on your roots? X

OP posts:
Mammaaof · 16/05/2021 00:15

@lovescaca thank you so much for your helpful advice!!! Will definitely do this! X

OP posts:
lovescaca · 16/05/2021 00:16

Yeah I was going to say that, looks like loads off fine baby lights. It's actually a lovely colour at the bottom x

Mammaaof · 16/05/2021 00:17

@lovescaca I absolutely love the colour apart from the top part 😂😂

OP posts:
AyyMacarena · 16/05/2021 00:21

It comes with a wee brush to get it on. Keep it away from your scalp, get someone to check the back and don't touch the already light bits.
