Any hairdressers? Orangy roots!

So I was quite blonde anyway but with dark stretched roots so thought I'd to blonde all over. I used high lift from Sally's and 9% but the roots are a tad orange! Any advice?? I've tried purple shampoo on dry hair. I was going to try 12% on the roots tomorrow if anyone can advise if this will help?

@roughrug

Drunk... if I was I wouldn't be here now would I!

I meant now you've already put a colour in it another colour won't fix it.

Just go to a salon tomorrow, it will save a lot of stress

Oh I'm often drunk on MN sadly not right now
shouldistop · 15/05/2021 22:48

@roughrug op is bleaching her hair and talking about bleaching it again. That's the correct way to fix this. Her roots were originally her dark natural colour, she just hadn't left the bleach on long enough to lift it past the orangey stage.

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 22:49

@roughrug tomorrow is Sunday and as I said above I care for my partner and I've used the money I would have had to touch up my roots on a weekend break for my children. But I suppose in your opinion that also makes me a hideous person!

@selfieelf actually I did think it looked worse when I applied the purple shampoo!! I'm going to try the blue as PP had just suggested I didn't realise you could get blue! Failing that will definitely try and lighten again I was worried all my hair would fall out 😂

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey thank you!! Didn't realise I could get blue I actually did feel that it looked worse after the purple shampoo! Will definitely try this tomorrow! X

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 22:51

@roughrug get over yourself, you're a hairdresser not a brain surgeon Grin. Anyway Op it sounds like you've had some decent advice now.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 15/05/2021 22:52

@Mammaaof I use the Lee Stanford (so) blue range from boots

lms2017 · 15/05/2021 22:55

Hate the comments about only a hair dresser can do it ..... No they just have a qualification for learning it anyone can learn it !

I do my own my hairdresser friend laughs about how I manage to get it to look as good as it does.

Your hair to me hasn't gone through the process you have taken it off too soon , in order to tone it out it needs to light yellow , so that's after the orange I think you panicked and washed off too soon. ( I have before) xx

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 22:58

@lms2017 yes this is exactly what happened it said 50mins so I left it on for that and then I thought omg what if my hair all falls out so washed it off 😂

You really shouldn't use 9 or 12% with bleach on your scalp. 6% is more than enough unless you are super dark but then I'd question why you want to go blonde. You need to lighten the roots more but you'll need to be super careful with your application as you don't want to overlap where its already light enough as you could cause breakage. But yeah you haven't left it on long enough and no amount of blue or purple shampoo will fix it. It'll probably look better in a couple of days anyway as the glare always fades even if you don't relight it.

If the roots aren't light enough then blue won't help

lms2017 · 15/05/2021 23:03

If you have any colleges near you they often do reduced rates for people training and are overlooked by qualified staff X good luck.

CHISistoast · 15/05/2021 23:04

Op you don't have to justify yourself to roughrug whose training is on a par with NASAs.
However, I tried to bleach my daughter's already light hair and it went wrong... I would wait till you can go to a salon and ask for some help, otherwise you may find yourself going in circles, like we were.. It'll be fine!

queenofthenorthwest · 15/05/2021 23:04

Sorry no advice but bumping for you I hope you get it sorted. X

shouldistop · 15/05/2021 23:05

Powder*

Roominmyhouse · 15/05/2021 23:06

Sorry just realised you used highlift not bleach. What shade did you use? 50 mins should really have been enough for highlift. Are you very dark naturally?

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 23:07

I used this mixed with ash blonde high lift as advised by the hairdresser in Sally's 🙈

Exactly the same happened to me. I put a semi-permanent purple colour on top. It took 5 hours for my hairdresser to fix when she reopened - and I have a pixie cut! She made me promise never to dye my own hair again and said she and her colleagues have been saying for year that bleach should not be available to buy or the high street.

queenofthenorthwest · 15/05/2021 23:08

@roughrug I get what your saying but not everyone can afford hairdressers right now/at all.

I've asked for all kinds of advice here in the past and thankfully I've gotten it from here.

From everything from legal to what recipes to use.

If I could help someone I would because I think that's what this forum is about.

Help with day to day issues, sounding off, a bit of a laugh and ultimately just being kind.

These were my roots!

@Mammaaof depending on your natural depth/tone highlift and 9% might not have been enough as that will only lift up to 3 shades. So you'd need to be fairly light naturally for that to lift properly. With 12% you might have got another 1-2 shades lighter or you'd need to use bleach.

Mammaaof · 15/05/2021 23:14

@Roominmyhouse I feel like it only needs a little more lifting and I'd be happy with it, maybe I should have left it on longer and been brave 🙈

Roughrug- blowing out someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine any brighter.
Oh and I also have years of training- but unlike you I am happy to provide advice in the field I know about for no other reason than being kind.
