Has anyone bought from Chanel at Selfridges Manchester Exchange?

I'm threatening to buy a 2.55 Reissue

My nearest stockist is Manchester Selfridges Exchange Square. Has anyone bought there recently? (lockdown notwithstanding) What was your experience?

If anyone has opinions on the 2.55 itself I'd be glad to hear them too Smile

Thought would post my favourite bag to add to the mix. It's a chevron lamb jumbo with black hw.

@Wagsandclaws I am pretty certain I am in the minority re the 19. They are quite popular :).

@Badabingbadabum I think I've read about handbag restorers on FB groups but it's not something I've paid attention to so don't have details, sorry. I hope someone else will be able to help 🤞🏻

Thank you for being on the thread, I'm glad you are enjoying it Smile I've never bought anything from Reiss but I always associate it with Kate Middleton (I think she got the white dress she worse on her engagement photo from there) & I absolutely loved that!

@WowIlikereallyhateyou This is my No. 5 brooch.

When my partner & I first met she was using No. 5 body wash that she had bought as it reminded her of her mother who she had sadly lost to breast cancer 4 years earlier (I never had the privilege of meeting her.) I'd never had any of the scent but fell in love with it as I did with her.

She bought me a bottle of No. 5 not long after we got together & had it engraved with the words "All roads..." as she said that's what led her to me ☺️ She bought me this brooch the first Christmas we were together. It's a link between her mother & I & very special.

Hi @Badabingbadabum,
You could try the Handbag Spa. It’s in Harrogate but you could courier it to them if that’s too far to travel. I haven’t used them myself but I’ve heard good things about them. I hope you get it sorted Smile

Hey all - loving this thread!

Wanted to ask if any of you buy second hand, and if so where from? I am in the market for a new Chanel (classic flap medium black w ghw) but am trying not to buy anything new new atm mostly for sustainability reasons (although it is also better on my wallet!).

The Handbag Spa is the one I was thinking of for @Badabingbadabum I just couldn't remember the name of it 👍🏻

Hardly Ever Worn It (HEWI), and Vestiaire are great for pre-owned too. Although be careful of the customs charges now Brexit has bitten!
Prestige is also good and Xupes.
Happy shopping Smile and good luck with your search. It’ll be worth it!
Happy to help @MrsCalypsoGrant xx

J12 thanks, the Matryoshka necklace is my absolute favourite.
MrsCalypso, very cute. Good thread!
Fruitandflowers, no I haven’t bought second hand and am reluctant to as there are so many fakes out there.

I think you’re right @WowIlikereallyhateyou, you have to be really careful.
I know Vestiaire have very thorough authentication. I haven’t bought Chanel pre-owned but bought a Birkin from there and it even came with the receipt. I got fed up of being on the waiting list. Definitely no regrets. Prestige and Xupes have been on the tv and they have experts check before they put anything online so I would trust them too.
I don’t think I’d buy from just anywhere though and you have to do your homework xx

J12, yes i see you. Had problems with vestiere not knowing what they are doing in the past, not with Chanel but other stuff, so I don’t trust them.
My husband got Hermes on his side for my birkin, and we got it within a year. My favourite is my jypsiere though. So easy to wear and not too big.

I love this thread but I’m really trying to stay away from animal products especially baby ones. I wonder if there’s a vegetarian version?Smile your hoards are beautiful alas I have no room in my little flat to store them nicely.

I love this thread and so glad you got your bag @mrscalypsogrant (I also love your name having recently rediscovered the camomile lawn).

I have a medium classic flap in caviar leather with SHW and it is my most treasured bag - my holy grail is a classic flap in gray from the 20C collection but sadly I don’t think that’s coming my way anytime soon.

I've always been nervous of buying preowned as there are so many fakes out there 😬 Chanel themselves say they can find it hard to authenticate as fakes are becoming ever more sophisticated, they only authenticate if they have the bag & serial number & can locate & identify it on their system.

It reminds me of Mikimoto who x-ray vintage pearls to look for the unique Miki roadmap, & Rolex who famously confiscate fakes & stick nails in them if they come their way 😮

I did buy one bag second hand, I saw it on Etsy & made contact with the seller who happened to be a totally genuine woman my age who lived near where I grew up! I inspected it in person & had a nice day chatting to a fellow Chanel lover & got a bargain to boot as there were no fees to an intermediary 👏🏻

That said there are some good companies out there & I think there are bargains to be had, especially where all original documentation is included though I can't comment on Xupes as my Mrs is in the international luxury watch industry & has opinions on their verification processes Grin

@FeelTheRush Ah you got the name - I absolutely adore The Camomile Lawn!

I have a second home in Cornwall & have visited the house used in filming several times - it looks just like it did on the adaptation, Channel 4 didn't change a thing & the owners at the time are still there & haven't altered it all (they were extras in the filming.)

I'm convinced that Calypso was a 2.55 girl WinkGrin

It’s always great to have a good SA in boutique! Your husband sounds like a superstar! Funnily enough, I hadn’t had my 35 Rouge Casaque very long when Bart from Selfridges in Manchester finally phoned and said they had a 30 black togo come in. All I can say is it’s the closest dh has ever been to losing it! But I couldn’t say no!! It’s been a while, I still haven’t had the courage to admit to him I’m lusting over the 2.55, Blush x

@MummyJ12 thank you. I went to the boutique 3 times when this was released. Met a nice SA who was willing to hold it for 24hrs when it eventually arrived. I ran like a crazy woman from work to hand them my money hehe Xx

To those wondering about second hand it's a tough one. Vestaire now also sells through selfrigdes. I have however seen complaints online despite their vetting processes with items not being as described etc. Also far fetch second hand is more expensive than in store sometimes. I also always get jittery about authenticity. So I think checking out the boutique is always the safest bet. There are many seasonal bags that are not online that may work for lifestyle and wallet (so not as expensive as the classics)
