Been thinking of trying this for a while, as I've felt in need of some style inspiration.
My parcel is due for delivery on 3rd April, but I think I get to know what's in it before that: I've said that I'd like a Spring dress for upcoming pub lunches.
Excited now.

@SallyCinnabon

Just done the style shuffle again and 50% were black trousers/jeans. The rest were awful dresses with Paisley and tassels. Interested to see my preview. 🤔

That sounds very similar to mine. Do you think everyone gets the same? All the dark jeans etc look the same anyway

I do wonder @tobee and you’re right they really do.

I just had the £10 taken so will probably get my preview soon. I’m not excited tbh.

SallyCinnabon · 01/06/2021 22:55

@SorryAboutTheTypos

Just been sent the preview for my next box and it’s so very boring.
I’d love to see if you’re happy to share 😊 @SorryAboutTheTypos

I did Thread when I was a bit drunk (😬). It's quite different from Stitch Fix and Lookiero in that they send you emails of tonnes of suggestions rather than a few things they select. They have a picture of some model or whoever and then show you versions of the items from off the peg places. A bit like features you get in women's magazines and style supplements. The prices vary greatly and have some sale stuff.

I did the initial quiz and sign up thing weeks ago but have only just really looked at it and bought a couple of items. The stuff recommended was pleasingly unfrumpy.

(I don't work for them btw Grin)

SorryAboutTheTypos · 01/06/2021 23:30

@SallyCinnabon I can’t seem to access it now, I get an error if I try.

ashmts · 01/06/2021 23:59

@tobee I've seen Thread advertised. I don't really understand how they make money, is it really free? Do they just make money through commission if you buy through their links?

justawoman · 02/06/2021 06:39

I tried Thread because it’s free. So far they’ve suggested some things that are ok but nothing that’s blown me away, and lots of things I dislike. Despite asking you to rate things and asking why when you click dislike, they keep giving me the same stuff I’ve already said I don’t want (all-white outfits, button-up shirts, heels). They also send lots of emails (I’m glad I gave them a throwaway address) and seen a bit desperate with constant, “quick! 20% off everything just today!” Though I suppose if I was in the mood to buy I could have got some good deals.

I also dislike that they show you a picture of a model wearing a trend and it often looks fabulous, then they suggest things you could buy to imitate the look and it’s... generally not quite the same. I’d actually prefer to be shown the clothes that are going to be suggested for me, if you see what I mean.

They have some quite good articles on fashion, including a great one on how to wear jumpsuits.

Overall I’ll probably continue to get their emails and glance at the site occasionally but I’m not wowed yet.

justawoman · 02/06/2021 06:40

Yes, I assume that they make their money by commission, and I also think it might not be going so well given the desperation of the offers they keep sending me. Maybe they won’t be around very long.

Postdatedpandemic · 02/06/2021 08:22

I did the Thread thing also.
I had to accept that a box of random polyester things would probably make me want to cry. I'm obviously a bit of a control freak.

The suggestions are quite generic editorial style. Here's a lovely expensive outfit... here's a cheap way of not looking the same Sad
They do have lots of brands though. Browsing the similar styles bits was useful.

I have three lightweight jackets on the way.
This whole concept of ordering things and then returning some or all is a bit alien to me. They have a 100 day free returns policy.
Presumably it is commission funded.

MaryTheMiddle · 02/06/2021 15:54

Oh, I've just tried the Thread thing and I quite like it.

Found a few things. Not the same outfits they recommended. For example, they had a nice, tonal type outfit, with a white tank top and neutral skirt with massive heels and expensive bag. Also a broderie anglaise type shit with linen trousers (all white). I've gone with the shirt and skirt and a bag from somewhere in their recommendations, but in a different colour than they recommended (and way cheaper).

Nothing earth shattering in terms of style, but I enjoyed that a lot more than Lookiero or Stitch Fix. It's also much quicker, so that may be better or worse, depending on the person.

Yes I was wondering this!

When I did the Thread quiz thing it said my style was "street"!! Which being a boring suburban 53 year old flattered my easily deluded self. Grin

justawoman · 02/06/2021 21:22

Yes, it got me quite wrong initially too, I had to go back and redo it. I think it said I was casual, when in fact while I do slob around in loungewear at home (who hasn’t been for the past year?) when I go out I’m fairly classic in style and was hoping for some smart workwear suggestions.

Hepzibar · 02/06/2021 21:32

Just had my preview. All grim. Frumpy and dowdy. Very disappointed.

MaryTheMiddle · 02/06/2021 21:41

With Thread I got minimal chic! I'd like to think that's true...but probably not.

I really liked it. Got into a bit of a wormhole, looking at outfits which go with specific items and then finding the bits to go with it. It feels a bit like having access to the same algorithms used by Stitch Fix and Lookiero. It doesn't have the surprise element, but I like that.

Just signed up for Thread and they've put me as seaside style - 'Organic materials. Hardwearing fabrics. Muted palettes. Your wardrobe nods to a nautical aesthetic, and you tend to eschew trends, allowing practical style to take the helm instead.'

That's quite spot on actually, intrigued to see what my 'stylist' (the algorithm) send me in an hour...

MaryTheMiddle · 03/06/2021 10:57

I really like Thread. In the end I bought something from a second list of recommendations which I don't even know how I found (technophobe that I am). It was a Gant wool and viscose hounds tooth type jacket. I've been looking for something like this for ages and it was reduced from £260 to £79 and then I got 20% off. Really pleased (although need to try on). I love that it tells you without clicking on a link that it isn't available in your size as well.

Really pleased I've tried it, so thanks to whoever recommended it.

Baconking · 04/06/2021 17:21

Received my 2nd box today.

2 plain navy tops Hmm...one was nice but literally a t-shirt for £28..and a button up linen t-shirt for almost £40!!

Only kept the dress as I look pretty fabulous in it! Very flattering Smile and had £25 credit due to a lovely mumsnetter using my discount code so only cost £24 & it's quite weighty...not flimsy material.

Won't be ordering a new box for a while but would use again if I needed some inspiration

I've placed my first Stitch Fix order!

@Baconking I posted a few days ago that I only booked a new box so I could request a specific dress I saw on Instagram and that is the dress! Unfortunately it wasn't on my preview. My box arrives tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers, it's lovely

My link is here is anyone wants to sign up for a first box. I got mine today and had two really well fitting pairs of denims, a flattering and versatile black top which will be really useful for dressing up a casual outfit or workwear and a lovely green leopard print midi skirt. Keeping 3 things I think. The last was a green ditsy shirt dress that made me look like a brick but pleased with the first attempt! I like the style shuffles but some of the selections on it are really horrible so definitely preview your box
