I've placed my first Stitch Fix order!

Been thinking of trying this for a while, as I've felt in need of some style inspiration.
My parcel is due for delivery on 3rd April, but I think I get to know what's in it before that: I've said that I'd like a Spring dress for upcoming pub lunches.
Excited now.

For the second time (new stylist this time) my selection was awful and super frumpy. I picked some Tods pumps out but the rest of the preview was hopeless.

Why do they keep trying to dress me so I look depressingly menopausal? I’ve now specified no shirt dresses for a start (who needs two in a single order??). If the rest of the final selection is terrible I’m going to knock down my age by 15 years!

FourTurnings · 28/05/2021 06:35

It really is so variable isn’t it? Maybe it just depends on the stylist.

MaryTheMiddle · 28/05/2021 07:56

@HesSpartacus

I can't remember if it was this thread or another one, but, as suggested by a Mumsnetter, I've changed my D.O.B. on Stitch Fix to make me a little younger for next time Grin. I'm only thirty now. Amazing how you can lose seven years so quickly. Must be my amazing diet and water intake. Ahem.

I've also included words like "on trend" in my request box thing.

It's annoying that I've had to do that, but I wonder if some of the stylists hear 35+ and assume they need to go for horrible, unfashionable stuff my late mum wouldn't have been seen dead in and she was in her fifties before she died. (And very stylish she was, in her fifties - I hate it when people assume older means out of style).

Yes that was me Grin I was considering it due to the frump I was getting.

Let me know if your items improve. I will have to change my stylist if I change my age now as I think she’ll notice me getting younger by 10 or 15 years 🤣

SorryAboutTheTypos · 28/05/2021 08:48

My first box is arriving tomorrow. It has two pairs of the same jeans in different sizes (so no way I could keep the whole box for the discount which seems very unfair) and three tops that I’m not hugely keen on. I’m hoping they’ll look better on than they do in the pictures. It’s probably my fault as I was quite vague in the styling notes as I wanted to be redesigned, but I was clear that I wanted stuff that was quite fitted on top and it all looks pretty shapeless. Even if I don’t like this lot I’ll probably give lots of feedback and see if I can get a better box next time around.

I'm hoping mine doesn't notice as I've only had one box. If they ask, I'll say it was a mistake before mwahaha!

FYI I was reported before for using the word menopausal in relation to clothing 😂 on the infamous dress and leggings thread .
ashmts · 28/05/2021 09:32

I'm 30 and I've been sent some stuff I'd consider frumpy. I think they might be constrained by the brands they can access? Particularly as my budget is at the lower end. I had decided I wasn't ordering another box, but then I did! I follow one of the stylists on Instagram (@stylinggenes) and she posted a lovely midi dress from Stitch Fix so I asked for that dress or one very similar. Got my preview the other day and it was a bit disappointing, they had included a couple of midi dresses but one was t-shirt style and one was tea dress style, so nothing like the dress I asked for. I wonder how much notice they actually take of what you type and how much of it is just an algorithm. On the plus side, the preview also included a nice jumper, lovely flat sandals, and a midi skirt that will either suit me or won't but is worth a try. I rejected the rest and sent feedback on the midi dresses so fingers crossed when the box arrives I get something I want.

It's an interesting way of shopping. I like the style profile and previewing the items as I think it's made me more mindful of what I like. Usually I browse when I'm online shopping and can be tempted by a bargain but having to specify the style and pattern of dress/jacket/jumpsuit etc has really made me think about what I want. I'm going to try and take that mindfulness with me as I go back to normal online shopping and only search for what I really want.

MaryTheMiddle · 28/05/2021 09:55

That's so annoying @ashmts.

I am also thinking of only asking for maybe dresses, jackets and shoes. Tops and trousers are tricky for me me, as I'm different sizes in different shops. Having said that, I've bought a size 14 dress this week and also an 18, but I'm really a 16 Confused. So maybe I'm just too difficult to dress without seeing me in person...

Goshitstricky · 28/05/2021 10:03

@Bufferingkisses - I have used your link to give this a go.

It will be interning to see what I get as I'm bloody clueless when it comes to style, I live in leggings, vest tops and cardigans. Blush

Jeans are ok.

Slubby top utterly godawful

Denim dress totally unflattering to an Apple shape with mum tum

I asked for some colour as the preview was all dark. So someone lobbed in a neon orange t shirt. Errrr, no

Trainers fine

Not keeping anting abs as this is my third box I think I'm giving up!

It's quite dissapointing, as the clothes all look nice in the ads which pop up. Maybe they only exist in certain sizes? Can't figure it out.

I was messing about with my style profile earlier, adding notes to try and get my point accross concisely etc. Then thought, "why the hell am I doing this"? Honestly, shopping for my own clothes is a lot easier! Thinking of cancelling although the next one is already booked. Might pause it till Christmas or something and ask for handbags only Grin

sesquipedalia · 28/05/2021 15:13

I might have been a bit terse in my comments in my last box when I said I wish they'd stop dressing me from Primark to hangout in Weatherspoons.

Harsh, but true.

Oh dear. I can't even really blame them in my case. I am difficult to dress! I'm all "show off my waist but nothing which shows my tummy" and "show off my legs but I prefer loose fitting on my bottom half" Confused. I know what I mean, but I don't blame them for not having a clue!

I was thinking, could I write them a specific list of items I want?..then realised, I could just write myself a list and then buy it all myself too. It would ruin the surprise element obviously.

Candleabra · 28/05/2021 18:15

I gave up on stitch fix. I had about 8 boxes and they actually got worse. I was hoping for some nice things to get me out of a style rut, the stuff was mostly awful. I've bought more nice things in the last week from reading the great purchases thread on style and beauty than all my boxes put together.

bonfireheart · 28/05/2021 19:07

Woah the style shuffle just gets uglier and uglier. I keep saying no to it all.

FourTurnings · 28/05/2021 19:25

I have to say I’ve had only good experiences with Stitchfix, which is odd given what most of you are finding! I’ve set my budget quite high with it, I’ve a fairly easy figure to dress - don’t know if this makes a difference. The style shuffle is horrendous , couldn’t agree more. But from each box I’ve kept maybe three good pieces that I wear regularly. And believe me I do love my clothes so it’s not like I’ll just wear anything..😀

Tbf to them, they did find me a very nice blouse from a brand I hadn't heard of. I also put my price up a little higher, so it was a medium-high end scandi brand, which I liked. But they'd picked the only print in the whole store which was a bit dodgy and they also priced it ten pounds higher than I found it online with minimal effort. So, no, not bowled over tbh. I'm not sure I can get over the waterfall cardi tbh either and that was £££ too.

FourTurnings · 28/05/2021 21:28

The waterfall cardi must have been a bit upsetting Smile

Candleabra · 28/05/2021 22:08

My price level was pretty high too. I wouldn't have minded paying a bit more for something really nice. Very disappointing.

(The style shuffle: is this your style? I always thought - "who on earth would have this style?!")

FourTurnings · 28/05/2021 22:16

I go through the style shuffle and give a thumbs down for everything they show so I don’t know how that works.

SallyCinnabon · 28/05/2021 22:42

I'm hoping mine doesn't notice as I've only had one box. If they ask, I'll say it was a mistake before mwahaha!

Good plan @MaryTheMiddle I’m going to bump mine down now too

SallyCinnabon · 28/05/2021 22:46

Just done the style shuffle and most was awful, I like the black jumpsuit and denim jacket. The cardigan though…
