How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

@RinkyD they were originally designed as baby bags and now Leo marketed as handbags. DS is almost 3 and we're hoping to have another baby next year. I think it will make me feel more stylish than your typical nappy bag! 😁

But it! I have about 9 bags at a time (varying designers £200 to about £1000) I have winter, autumn/spring & summer. Work bag, every day bag & eve bag in each 'season'. If I find the next season I'm not reaching for it I sell it & buy something I prefer.

OhioOhioOhio · 04/03/2021 15:14

I'm the party pooper. I'd rather put it to overpaying the mortgage and retire earlier. Sorry. Totally don't get the extravagance.

DarlingCoffee · 04/03/2021 15:18

Over £600 on a Mulberry but I love it and always get compliments on it and it still looks good. No regrets.

Buy the bag OP!!

danuta22 · 04/03/2021 15:33

Thanks :)

Loopyloututu2 · 04/03/2021 15:34

I’ve got a few bags that were around £800. The way I look at it I use them every day - I wouldn’t spend that on a dress for example, but a good leather bag won’t really go out of fashion.

Alexandernevermind · 04/03/2021 15:38

My limit is about £150 ish. I always buy Radley but wait until the sale or an outlet visit. I think i must have every style - cross body for dog walking, large multiway shopper, smart shoulder, going out out shoulder.

WonderfulBuns · 04/03/2021 15:43

If you think you will get decent cost per wear then go for it. My bags last longer than any of my clothes - careful purchases can give value in making you feel good and also practicality.

ivfbabymomma1 · 04/03/2021 15:50

@waitingforsun For gods sake Op!! I wasn't planning on spending £250 today!!! Cheers! Grin ps buy it before we sell it out Wink

MargosKaftan · 04/03/2021 16:16

Most I've spent is £800 on a Mulberry about 8-9 years ago. Still looks good. I bought a smaller mulberry handbag after the S&B ladies were a bad influence last summer and kept posting links to their factory outlet, that one was under £500, so a bargain. My others are usually between £100-200.

If you can afford it, like it and most importantly will use it, why not?

JinglingHellsBells · 04/03/2021 16:20

Do you have to buy a new bag now @waitingforsun?

Coach has similar styles and when it's end of season (June-ish) many have 50% off simply because they are changing the colour range for next season.

You can get a lovely £250 bag for £125 :)

Positivevibesonlyplease · 04/03/2021 16:27

I bought a very beautiful Coach bag in the sale for £70. That’s my limit! I love it, however and feel happy when I use it. If your bag makes you feel the same, it’s a good investment.

ParisJeTAime · 04/03/2021 16:31

Oh it's lovely op!

I think I'd need to give it serious thought, but yeah, I'd spend that I think, for the perfect bag for loads of occasions. That isn't some wee clutch you'll keep stored away until the next wedding you get invited to etc. It's a sensible bag which looks stunning.

The most I have spent to date on a bag, is circa £150 on a huge, canvas, shoulder bag from the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania collection. I bought it when dc1 was a baby, with some of my bonus from work, (I remember also buying a baby sling with it, which did two babies), so that is almost exactly five years ago. Still going very strong. I get loads of compliments on it and it is massive, so holds everything. Not a single regret about buying that bag (or the sling).

anxiouscrazymum · 04/03/2021 16:57

Buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, did I say BUY IT!

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 17:44

@ivfbabymomma1 I've ordered it 😁 It's getting delivered tomorrow. It did slightly concern me, that it would be sold out, with the amount of people on this thread who have bought it! Haha

@JinglingHellsBells I have ordered it. Coach keeps coming up on this thread so I might have to have a browse! (Not to buy another bag at the moment though)!

@ParisJeTAime I think it's a good test if I see something and wait to buy it but then keep coming back to it, which I've done with this. Can't wait for it to arrive now.

The VW sounds awesome! As does the slings, in partial to those too, Tulsa's have been my favourite. We now have a dinosaur toddler one which we love!

ParisJeTAime · 04/03/2021 18:00

Yes, mine was similar to a Tula I think...called a Sleepy Nico! Loved it. Passed it on after we'd finished with it and the lady I gave it to said she used it a lot too, so lasted 3 babies!

louderthan · 04/03/2021 18:01

I've just bought a Hill and Friends tote for £350. I've just had a significant birthday and I've been eyeing it up for about a year.
I too thought 'oh I can send it back!!' But now it's here and I love it 🥰
It's also a big faff sending things back!

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/03/2021 18:01

I'd spend about £50 on a handbag. Usually from TK Maxx or M&S but the bag I had the most positive comments about was a £10 sale bargain from Matalan (a friend thought it was a designer brandSmile.
I've been around the Mulberry factory and it's all machine made. Sorry they're not handcrafted by vestal virgins.

I'm more of a bra aficionado. I would happily spend £50 on a bra, but then again they have to do a lot of work!

Knittingnanny · 04/03/2021 18:20

It’s a lovely bag, glad you bought it for yourself.
I love handbags, they are so much more enticing for me than shoes. Now my children are grown up with children of their own I can easily justify buying myself a ( few...) lovely bag/S.
I live near the gunwharf outlet and have Several from Radley, Osprey, Coach etc.
Once a year I visit my middle son and family in New York and have a trip to the bag department in Macy’s. They have a large section devoted to sale bags. I usually buy one or two at a greatly discounted price.
I love purses too......
Just off to browse the kerikit website!

Knittingnanny · 04/03/2021 18:33

I’ve just discovered the Leather Company uk, another British company and really like the medium bucket bag.

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 19:11

@ParisJeTAime Cost per wear of the slings totally make them a good investment, our original Tula is with a friend now and we're hoping to have another next year, so that will be three babies too, hopefully . ☺️
