How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

I'd probably pay 250 for the perfect bag but typically spend around 100. Normally on a practical black Radley (from their outlet store) with loads of pockets. They last well for the price.

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 09:48

@onlychildandhamster quite similar to the one I've been looking at I think. Started my a mum of three who couldn't find a changing bag she liked, so she designed one and it has now evolved to more styles of change bags and handbags. Also solely online. I like the fact it's supporting a small business 😊

Id spend up to £500 probably. I love a good quality bag. I don't buy cheap bags really.
My weakness is candles around £50 Mark. If I didn't buy so many I too could have a glorious bag like yours.

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 09:52

@SandSeaBeach I'm not sure how you'd go about that really. Do people buy those kinds of bags on eBay? Or you could try a specialist second hand designer 'dress agency' type place. They might be helpful in getting an idea of price, even if you have to imply you will use them to sell 🤔

The nice thing about handbags is that you can justify the cost because they really do last, especially if you buy good quality. If I had money to spend £1000s, I would. My last purchase was, like you, £250 for a DKNY bag. It wasn't the brand I would have chosen but the size, shape and colour are perfect in that it's smart, fits my laptop, has the right style shoulder strap, works with all my outfits etc etc.

(Sadly, it's not in as good shape as other, previous handbags due to the bloody dog attempting to rip into it to get something out when I accidentally left a snack in it where she could smell it. But it's only noticeable to me. I suspect main issue is that bag now has a weakness so it won't last as long as it should).

It’s really lovely! Most I’ve spent is about £60 but I’m a poor student, so if I had the finances I would definitely go for it!

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 10:51

Wow, I ordered it this morning and it's already dispatched to be delivered tomorrow! Brilliant service.

That's brilliant service *@waitingforsun* Hope you and your gorgeous handbag are very happy together for years to come. 👜👜😂😂
Tehmina23 · 04/03/2021 11:15

My limit is £50 but more likely £30.

RogueV · 04/03/2021 11:16

Just spent £300 on a Coach bag. It was more than half price!

Acovic · 04/03/2021 11:20

Most I've spent was around £800.

Mulberry. It's years old now and I still use it (well not in the last year really as who needs a handbag to stay at home!)

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 11:42

@ParkheadParadise thanks 😁 I hope so too and I hope this isn't the start of an addiction. They have matching wallets and coordinating straps too 😅

OP posts:
waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 11:45

@Acovic That's the dream, really. I only have one other bag, I'm trying to buy less but good quality.

The staying home for a year was a sticking point but I've ordered it in the hope of more freedom! 😁

£300 on a Campomaggi brown leather bag for 40th.

I have never felt such exquisite leather in my entire life.

LunaNorth · 04/03/2021 12:35

@waitingforsun yes, I went for tan. I’ve been looking for the perfect tan bag for a while - I even started a thread. So thank you!

Pigtailsandall · 04/03/2021 12:35

@waitingforsun I love that bag. Go for it!

And whoever linked the Elvis and Kresse bags- I've just decided that it might be for me! Excitedly looking at the wonderful colour options. Does anyone have one? How do they look in real life?

PradaBallbag · 04/03/2021 13:53

@SandSeaBeach there are various Mulberry selling pages on FB if you take a look. You can see what others are selling for, or at least what the asking price is.

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 14:04

@Pigtailsandall My SIL has one. It's lovely, quite structured. She's had it a while and it still looks good as new. She's got navy with yellow handles I think.

The most I've spent is £595 for a Mulberry Bayswater and that was 11 years ago. I usually go around the £200-£250 mark.

Love your bag OP. I hadn't heard of this company before but will definitely be looking further!

@SandSeaBeach. There are several Mulberry sites in FB or I heartily recommend Shian at Naughtipidgins Nest for selling. I've bought from Shian several times - she is lovely to deal with and really knows her stuff.

ThisIsClare · 04/03/2021 14:24

@SD1978

If it's going to be used regularly and well- and it's within what you can afford, then it's fine- I like it too. It's all relative. I really want a mulberry bag- can't afford it. But also spent £250 on a backpack a few years ago which I love and use pretty much every day.
I bought a Mulberry bag at Bicester village - half price.
butterry · 04/03/2021 14:29

I have a whole collection of expensive bags that are generally no longer used since having children. It seems like such a waste now. My most used bags are Proenza Shouler, so well made and taken a battering with carrying dirty muslins, teething toys etc. I don't feel the need to baby the bags. Whereas my Chanel bags have been used less than 5 times each in the last decade because they feel too precious.

Constancevariable · 04/03/2021 14:33

When my oldest DC (now a teenager) was a newborn I spent £250 on a leather changing bag that looked like a handbag, best baby item I bought, I’ve only just recently replaced it with another treat handbag of a similar price.

You should get years of use out of it!

danuta22 · 04/03/2021 14:36

Really like that bag!

waitingforsun, which brand is that?

Thanks

RinkyD · 04/03/2021 14:45

Is it a baby bag?

It is not bad for the price, but when I was done with baby bag season I could not wait to get to a small/new handbag.

In my book anything that makes having small children more bearable is worth the money, ha ha.

Rainbows2021 · 04/03/2021 14:47

Probably £200, the most I've spent currently is about £170 in US $.
I don't spend a lot of clothes shoes etc and bags are my thing im planning on spoiling myself once the shops are open.
I tend to buy a coach each year.
