How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

Mine limit is usually the coach sale! Plus cash back via Quidco.. so the actual bag might be £350 but the most I've paid is about £170

chatw00 · 04/03/2021 03:54

I would spend 250 on a bag but it would need to have all the pockets, straps, extra bits that I wanted - wouldn't want to compromise and end up not using it (which I do have experience of Grin)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/03/2021 04:00

There was a gorgeous handbag from Reiss a few years back that I didn’t buy- still try and find it to this day and can’t....gutted! I should have bought it- do it

blisstwins · 04/03/2021 04:11

It might be heavy for your intended use, but it is a nice-looking classic bag. The bags from concka look amazing too. The most I have ever spent is about $400 USD and that is on massaccesi the Italian brand, but they are fairly custom (you choose the leather, lining, finishing and finishings) and now I am kinda insane because I went from using one bag at a time until it was dead and then replacing to custom-made! But when you have a bag you like that meets your needs and makes you happy it is a great thing.

JMAngel1 · 04/03/2021 05:52

But you only have one - so this £250 is to make up for lost time Grin. I would prob spend no more than £80 but I have lots of them - mainly old school Marc Jacobs from ebay. But I have 2 Natashas, 1Fran Q and 1 Ukita. Plus lots of cheaper clutch bags ( I love a .Bottega Veneta cloud dupe).

It's really lovely, so go for it!

0DimSumMum0 · 04/03/2021 06:04

Yes I would!! I am eyeing up one for £800 for my 50th! Same as you, I think I will use it for a long time so well worth it.

CarlottaValdez · 04/03/2021 06:04

I love that bag! I’ve been thinking if I get my bonus this year I’ll get a bag and that might be the one!

Grinch48 · 04/03/2021 06:17

£1000 on a mulberry Bayswater that I have only used for weddings & funerals 😂
But the mulberry matching purse I paid £300 for and use it every day for the past 3-4 years
I much prefer my £50 Mia Tui bags😂

SpeckledyHen · 04/03/2021 06:21

The most I have spent is £340 on a pre-loved Mulberry Oak Bayswater .

I have a collection of pre-loved Mulberry bags which in total equalled one month’s gross salary when I worked FT . This was my bag limit .

I sold 3 last year and made a decent profit on 2 of them . Although the value of Mulberry in general has dropped they still have a lot of resale value .

If you love the bag and can afford it then buy it .

EmilyEmmabob · 04/03/2021 06:28

Another Mulberry fan here - I spend anywhere up to £1000 on handbags but I don't do it often. I invest money in bags which will last and as a result I've got bags which are around 10 years old and still in use. To ensure value for money I don't buy cheaper bags, I use the ones I have. I also avoid delicate bags or designs which will date to make sure I will use them.

So far it's working out, although I've spent a lot I haven't bought a bag in about 5 years. So I'd say if it's a bag you will use and look after then go ahead!

purpledagger · 04/03/2021 07:49

I'm currently saving up for a bag myself: £800😳, which is more than I have ever paid in my life. But, I asked For money fir my birthday and Christmas to put towards it, so it I'm not having to spend much myself.

The way I look at it, is that rather than me spending my money on lots of cheaper items, I'm just buying one more expensive item.

I think we all need a couple of blow the budget items in our lives, (providing you can afford it). Go for it and enjoy it.

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 07:49

@ParkheadParadise

Thanks *@waitingforsun* I'm getting adverts for your handbag after clicking the link. I think I'll need to buy it now as well 👜😂👜😂
Haha. Oops! 🤩

@ArcheryAnnie

I don't think I've ever spent more than £20 on a bag - but then I am also the happy recipient of other people's secondhand bags.

On the other hand, I have lusted after an Elvis & Kresse bag for so long. If I had money to burn, I could easily drop £300 on them, no trouble. But they have less expensive options, too - just none in my price range.

They are gorgeous, and also sustainable.

I want these so badly

My SIL has one of their bags. She got it when they were quite new I think. Still going strong, they definitely stand the test of time!

That's a good idea. Might look into that!

My handbag currently is worth £100 but I bought it for half price. That feels about right to me. I tend not to buy into brands however if someone offered me a high end handbag I wouldn’t say no 🤪

harknesswitch · 04/03/2021 07:58

I spent £950 in a Chloe bag which, up until lockdown I used almost every day.

If you love it then buy it. You may find that once it arrives it doesn't live up to expectations, so then return it

LunaNorth · 04/03/2021 07:58

Cheers, OP. You’ve just cost me £300.

PradaBallbag · 04/03/2021 07:58

I'm probably the wrong person to ask since I'm a bit of a collector and my most expensive purchase was £1500 for a LV. I have around 8 bags and they all get used regularly (at least they did when I could go out!) If I stop using a bag, I sell it.

Your one looks really good quality and it's a timeless style. Go for it! And think of it on a cost per use basis.

Labobo · 04/03/2021 08:02

That bag is a classic OP. I think you will get years from it.

picklemewalnuts · 04/03/2021 08:07

If you put a lot in it, it will be very heavy. Obviously. That's the downside with bags like that. I always lose things in the bottom, as well.

But I've never spent more than £29 on a bag, and that only once, so I'm not the right person to ask!

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 08:09

Loving all the encouragement! So glad so many of you like it. Just checked out! 😀

I havent bought a handbag since I was about 19, like heels I find them to be really dated, disappointed my handbag obsessed mother greatly Grin

That said, I do treat myself in other ways, if you want it buy it!

Mirrorxx · 04/03/2021 08:11

I’m about to buy a bag that’s 2300 and that’s around the most I’d pay

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 08:14

@LunaNorth you're the second poster to be tempted I think. 🙈 There's a 20% off code on the website for Mother's Day btw
