How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

Thanks both. I might also buy some colonil for my white trainers whilst I’m there. I’ve also never cleaned a bag now I come to think about it 😆

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 06/03/2021 18:17

@TrueBlueBabyILoveYou I was in a lift 2 years ago in a hotel in Stockholm and a very stylish lady had a great LV which I secretly pined for - I’ve now looked up to see what your Artsy looks like and I’ve realised it’s the same! Great bag - and I’ve just seen that they’re in stock and will even promise delivery for Mother’s Day.... I’d better get the 7 and 8 year old on the case Grin
@onlychildandhamster I think I’m about to press ‘add to cart’ on this colour...
And great thread OP.... never did I realise that I needed even more handbags in my life Wink

Go for it. We all need a treat especially now and you won't regret having a beautiful bag that you love. I have a few beautiful Mulberry bags and 2 LV's...One is the gorgeous LV Artsy bag that I pined for for 2 years. I absolutely love them and because I worked sooooo hard for them I deserve them...

Re the cleaning, last time I visited eldest son in Singapore I watched through the window of a bag cleaning/ refurbish shop. The shelves were full of the expensive bags, some on this thread. There seems to be a thriving market over there for renovating bags.
For my 60 th a couple of years ago, me and my sons mother in law who is one day younger than me, were given beautiful Mulberry purses. It’s really lovely but I had to send it back to Mulberry after 14 months as the main press stud came off. I was shocked they charged me £25 as it was only under guarantee for 12 months. A bit disappointing for such a prestigious brand.
I’ve had another sort out this afternoon and found an Osprey cross body bag I’d forgotten I’d bought! Must have been on my last trip to the outlet before lockdown 1. My local adult step daughters are grateful recipients of my “ spare” bags. My local little granddaughters love getting Radley dog tags and the Kipling monkeys as I can’t bear those attachments.

I am waiting for the arrival of my new classic Gucci Bamboo after being inspired by The Serpent.

waitingforsun · 06/03/2021 22:41

@Justfivemoreminutesplease that light tan colour is a great choice.

Glad you've enjoyed the thread, I have too! It's been a nice distraction at the moment Smile

@CookieDoughKid what's The Serpent?

Very nice bag!! I would be scared to use it!

goose1964 · 06/03/2021 23:07

My current handbag was £12 in a sale, it's oilcloth and I love it.

CookieDoughKid · 07/03/2021 01:27

The Serpent is an 8 part series, set in the 70s about a very glam serial killer couple, mostly in Thailand but many other countries too. It’s on bbc iPlayer. It’s a true story. An epic series to watch due lockdown and the fashion is amazing 🤩

waitingforsun · 07/03/2021 07:15

@CookieDoughKid Sounds great! I need a new series to watch so will give that a go. Thanks!

Omg now I want to splash out in a new handbag...

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 07/03/2021 12:30

I've just ordered a bag made out of ring pulls from cans. Not everyone's cup of tea but I'm so excited for it to arrive. I already have a bottletop clutch but that's not suitable for every day, so I know I already like the style.

waitingforsun · 08/03/2021 10:17

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously that sounds interesting. I can't really imagine what it would look like. Would love to see when it arrives :)

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/03/2021 11:24

It's this one from not on the high street. There's a company called bottletop which also do them, which is where I got my clutch bag from.

ArcheryAnnie · 08/03/2021 12:09

That's amazing, like chain mail.

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously (love the name) did you see the ones I posted upthread, made from old London Fire Brigade fire hoses?

(I can't afford any of them, but they'd last forever and - obviously - be waterproof!)

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/03/2021 12:19

Those are fabulous. I do like something that's a bit different - amazing that someone saw fire hoses and thought to make them into handbags. Bottletop do a similar shaped bag made out of burgundy coloured ring pulls that I would love, but I can't quite bring myself to spend the best part of £200 on it yet.

threatmatrix · 13/03/2021 17:52

There’s a seller on eBay called ‘the purse ladies’ it’s American. They are genuine sellers of designer handbags ( I’ve had a couple) great condition but a bit cheaper.

Thischarmlessgirl · 13/03/2021 20:40

I’m the wrong person to ask as I spend far too much on handbags

£3800 on a Chanel double flap (inheritance money from my lovely Nan and a bag I’ve coveted for years)

I also have various Louis Vuittons, Mulberry, a Gucci Disco and a Gucci Marmont. I love them all.

Your bag looks lovely, enjoy it!

PresentingPercy · 13/03/2021 22:47

My Chanel 2/55 was around £1800 years ago. They totally hold their money if you look after them.

I have a Gucci Bamboo in plain black grain leather. It’s just got a bamboo handle and it’s less busy than the newer ones. My old 90s Gucci shoulderbag needs new stitching. The steel has come adrift.

I love my AMQ Heroine snd Novak bags. I find my LV Neverfull has straps that are a bit narrow. They can dig in a bit! I generally prefer top handle bags like the Alma.

Longchamp make excellent leather bags and so do Russell and Bromley. I think Mulberry are over priced. At least some of them are lined now. Ralph Lauren bags are well made.

shenanigans5 · 14/03/2021 07:11

I love it OP- it’s gorgeous!

Has anyone along this thread bought it in mink?

lightlypoached · 14/03/2021 09:08

Well thanks for the inspiration. I've never bought expensive things at all, but yesterday ordered 2 aspinall bags from Selfridges (they were on offer).

Will see which I prefer when they get here - or may keep both as a big chunk came from gift cards I've had for FIVE years Smile see, rubbish at buying stuff !

These are the beauties:

www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/camera-a-bag-in-black-pebble. In black, safe but I wear a lot of black. I love the yellow but it's out of stock

www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/gigi-bag-in-deep-shine-marmalade-small-croc. In the Marmalade colour. Beautiful. Worried it might be a bit bulky but will see when it gets here.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/03/2021 10:19

They are both lovely and do different from each other that you could definitely justify keeping both!

waitingforsun · 15/03/2021 04:35

@shenanigans5 I'm so pleased I went for it. Not sure if anyone went for the Mink. Looks like a great colour though, lovely neutral I think.

OP posts:
waitingforsun · 15/03/2021 04:36

@lightlypoached both lovely! I'm glad we inspired you to spend your vouchers. And you should definitely keep both!!
