How much would you spend on a handbag?

waitingforsun · 03/03/2021 23:45

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

Just bought a £320 Tory Burch tote and £1030 LV Alma BB. Live both!

waitingforsun · 05/03/2021 23:14

@babbi do you like any of the styles that have popped up on the thread?

OP posts:
waitingforsun · 05/03/2021 23:15

@iswearalot not heard of Tory Birch - will google! LV - 🤩

Mylittlepony374 · 05/03/2021 23:24

Bought it in black. You deserve commission as I had never heard of the brand before.

waitingforsun · 05/03/2021 23:27

@Mylittlepony374 haha, that would be nice! I swear about 5 people on this thread have bought one!

I considered black too, looks really classic.

@waitingforsun
Sorry I was away admiring my daughters intended clothing purchases, she is using up birthday money .

I like compartments in bags as I like to be organised ( boring! )
That Kate Spade one you kindly showed me is exactly the kind of thing that’s just me !
Thank you
It’s probably a silly word to use about a handbag but I like them to be “structured “
.
A place for everything etc etc ..
I hate rummaging about trying to find things .. especially at airports when there are queues behind me and I can’t find my documents .

babbi · 05/03/2021 23:29

@waitingforsun
Your bag is lovely and very professionally modellers by your glamorous self .
It’s a long time since I needed a nappy bag though .

As an aside , I’d love to know how much money has been spent on handbags since your original post .
You’ve inspired and led astray so many 😂

Never before today had I seriously considered investing in a quality bag but I’m definitely doing it !!

waitingforsun · 05/03/2021 23:29

@babbi girls shop night in your house then!

I'm glad you like it! Looks like they have a good offer code at the moment too if you decide to go for it 😁

waitingforsun · 05/03/2021 23:31

@babbi yes, not quite what I imagined when I posted my original question! 😆

I don't feel particularly glamorous, but thank you!

Well this thread has been fun whilst I can't sleep. I've never bought an expensive bag before but have been tempted.

Can you wise lot help me please?

I use a lonchamps small pliage at the moment - perfect size and light and fits loads but would be nice to have a posher one. Like @babbi I don't usually spend loads and am typically sensible (black in my case) but can at the moment as I've just had a bonus.

So : lightweight, must go over my shoulder, not too staid but not too out there either Grin. I tend to live in DMs and brogues and trousers so am more casual than dressy.

Was looking at this www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/aspinal-of-london-small-a-leather-hobo-bag_528-10005-042211114110000/?previewAttribute=BLACK but wonder if it's too boring?

Sexnotgender · 06/03/2021 07:03

What about a leather le pliage @lightlypoached? If you like the style then maybe just an upgrade.

jay55 · 06/03/2021 08:35

The most was £700, I bought it as a boost for a job interview. Got the job and so it paid for itself.

Think of all the money you've not spent on coffee/cocktails/whatever this year and enjoy it. After all, cost per wear will be very low once you start using it.

Knittingnanny · 06/03/2021 08:51

Kerikit is popping up on my Facebook now!
The Coach shay looks nice but I did buy a similar style a few years ago and found it too deep if you know what I mean and resold it after one use on eBay.

TrueBlueBabyILoveYou · 06/03/2021 09:18

I am not usually a designer type of person and most of my clothes are high street from Primark upwards. However, whenever I have bought something designer it has lastest me years. Over the past 2 decades I have bought:

I LV never full. It was about £700 when I bought it, 15 years ago. I have used it most days and it is in excellent condition.

1 Mulberry Bayswater, not the soft one. I have hardly used this as I use my LV every day. This cost £750 when my DH bought it for me as a present about 10 years ago.

1 LV evening bag. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bag. I then ditched all my evening bags and this is the one I use all the time when I go out.

Red leather bag from Shanghai Tang which is really unique. Cost around £300.

Mulberry Anthony cross-over bag. I use this a lot when I am bombing around. I thought these went a bit wobbly and was concerned about it. Then I bought some brown shoe polish, spent 1/2 hour buffing it up gently and it came out like new. Result!

For a very big birthday, I recently got the LV Artsy with a braided handle. It is really lovely. I haven't used it yet as lockdown and joggers aren't really putting me in the mood, but hopefully soon.

I am thinking of selling the Mulberry Bayswater and the LV never full as I don't use the former and the LV one won't really get used now I've got the more grown-up artsy.

I know some people cringe at LV but I really like them. I used to live overseas and they were very popular there and I think they have just stuck in my brain as a luxurious treat.

lightlypoached · 06/03/2021 09:50

@Sexnotgender not a bad idea.....

@Crazydogmumma I quite like that.

Have now been browsing for hours. Found this. I love it www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/valentino/valentino-garavani-rockstud-small-textured-leather-tote/1303690

waitingforsun · 06/03/2021 10:17

@lightlypoached I love the aspinal one. I find a coloured/ light interior to be good to help find stuff in a bigger bag.

Also, love the Valentino one. I probably wouldn't use something like it as an every day bag but I love the edgy studs and the shape.

waitingforsun · 06/03/2021 10:20

@lightlypoached fossil have some nice hobo style ones similar to the aspinal too

@lightlypoached just had a look at Longchamp. They've got some lovely leather bags as well. I really really like this one. Something a little different...

@onlychildandhamster thanks for posting the pictures.
I’m seriously tempted - I’ve looked at the website long enough that a 10% discount has popped up! I would use it for carrying my laptop and papers to and from work and also for airports where my handbag seems to be used by the family as a general dumping ground after check-in. I normally use my LV Neverfull but hate it when I’m suddenly asked for passports etc as it’s all hidden at the bottom.
I can’t decide on a colour though - if I went for this cream it’s not very practical but I imagine if the leather is good it will clean.
And also, how sturdy are the straps please? They don’t look “strong enough” to hold everything if the bag is full?!?

How much would you spend on a handbag?
onlychildandhamster · 06/03/2021 11:44

@Justfivemoreminutesplease the straps feel sturdy. I don't have an occasion to bring my laptop out now but i tried packing it full with my laptop and walked around my apartment- it seems fine.

I saw a guide for cleaning the bag on the site, but really i have never cleaned my bags?!

You can buy spray to protect your bags and it's good for pale colours like this. It's called Colonil. Also comes in a cream. It'll stop your bag from getting dirty.
