How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

@Knittingnanny sounds absolutely wonderful. NYC is definitely one of my bucket list destinations.

I'm imagining you looking very glamorous, wearing sunglasses and a headscarf, with armfuls of shopping bags! Brilliant fun!

I can definitely pop by with a photo when The Bag arrives tomorrow!! 😁
I'd be delighted to share it here seeing as no one in the outside world is going to see it for a while!

@Hoorayforsunshine It will be my every day bag so fingers crossed it lasts well.

Good point in case of faults too, thanks!

I went on a game show to win money for a bag 😂 I then got a secondment placement for 6 months so used my extra money for it. I had been wanting it for years but couldn't justify spending a grand on a handbag but I do love it so much it was Deff worth it

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 22:17

I've really enjoyed this thread today. Thanks everyone so much. I've loved reading about all your expensive purchases! 😁

I've had a request for some photos of the bag when it arrives, so I'll gladly post those when it's here!

@Arrierttyclock which game show?! What bag?! Grin

I tend to buy a bag in the Jigsaw sale every summer, usually around £100. I don’t chop and change bags with outfits, so they get well used.

Knittingnanny · 04/03/2021 22:25

I feel the odd one out in manhattan, waiting, everyone is slim and elegant and I’m hot and flustered and definitely not glamorous! Apart from Macy’s, the knitting shops, Moods the fabric heaven and seeing my son and grandchildren , I’d be happy if I never had to go again!
Lovely to visit once or twice but I’ve been going for 16 years now and I’ve seen everything I need to see.
And don’t get me started on JFK airport... I could weep at the thought of the long queues and shouty loud immigration officers.
I’ve bought the odd bag at airports though.....
My eldest son and family live in Singapore and there are some fabulous bag shops at their airport.....
Haven’t been since before lockdown of course.

Knittingnanny · 04/03/2021 22:29

Oh no! I’ve just realised that the kerikit bags are baby bags primarily?!
I could still have one though as we do one day a week baby and toddler care here. Not sure I’d want to spoil a £250 bag with smears of sudocrem or crushed mangled Pom bears.

Knittingnanny · 04/03/2021 22:33

The cheap washable Kipling bag can do for that, although I do like the cute straps that come with your bag to clip onto the buggy. The toddler on the buggy board would no doubt wipe her nose on it and lick it as it would be right in front of her face.

ParkheadParadise · 04/03/2021 22:33

Place marking to see your lovely bag @waitingforsun

If you decide it's not really for you I will gladly pm my address 😂😂😂.

crazylikechocolate · 04/03/2021 22:45

Have you seen it in reality ? I had a similar leather bag and found it too heavy

MandalaYogaTapestry · 04/03/2021 22:47
@MandalaYogaTapestry is a Mother's Day promotion, code is MOTHER2021

If you go to the website home page there is a banner on there 😁
Thank you! Apparently it's on selected lines only - like the midi version of that lovely bag you chose. I wanted a larger one. Oh well

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 22:50

@MandalaYogaTapestry I got the larger one with the discount 🤔

I'll post another link. You have to get quite a long way through check out before you enter the code

Damn you OP and your excellent bag recommendations!!
I am now down £240!!!

I actually was looking for a new bag, as I got a new coat which completely clashed with the colour of the (very cheap accessorise) bag I'd been using. What sold this one to me apart from how it looks...

 1. Water bottle holders - as I am ALWAYS carrying water for either myself or the kids, and it drives me mad having to put it in the main bag and risk leakage
 2. Being able to carry it as a backpack, which will be very handy indeed if I take it out to the shops and buy more than I was expecting to, not that this ever happens oh no

I bet the Kerikit staff log in tomorrow and think, wtf....

crummyusername · 04/03/2021 22:53

And yes the discount code is actually on the payment page, which caught me out for a bit.

crummyusername · 04/03/2021 22:55

It's quite big, though I measured my current bag and it's not much larger - so my only hesitation was that it might be a bit bulky. Will check in with this thread to see what others thing!

MiddleClassMother · 04/03/2021 22:56

I've spent ££££'s before on handbag'a, but my classic LV has done me well for the past year and a half, as long as you look after them they're fine, and I'm still in love with it every time I look at it!

Thanks but it still wouldn't accept the code. I get the message that MOTHER2021 is not valid for the items in my basket. Really strange

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 23:04

@crummyusername yes!! The internal organisation is a big selling point for me. Also the back pack option. I love the colour too.

I think the size is quite big but I like idea of being able to fit lots in without it looking like it's bursting at the seams 😁

OP posts:
wasgoingmadinthecountry · 04/03/2021 23:55

The leather doesn't look lovely on the photo, but that often happens I guess. It can go back if you don't love it, and if you love it you'll have it for ages. I have a Prada bag (bought in Venice) that must be 20 years old now. My girls want it because it is vintage. Er no!! Equally have had my money out of a black Mulberry bag. The ones I regret are the low/mid price ones that are a bit boring.

youmakemydreamscometrue · 05/03/2021 00:43

I bought myself a hand bag for my 30th, I've used it pretty much everyday in the 8 years since I bought it, £600 well spent. Embarrassingly I also treated myself to another bag because the first was getting a bit tatty, got a different style, hate it £700 wasted.

If you love it, and can afford it, buy it.

LegArmpits · 05/03/2021 00:49

I dunno, but I bought a canvas SpongeBob bag for 99p in Primark about three years ago that I use for work most days. I might be 46 but I'm mostly winning at life. 😂

SpeckledyHen · 05/03/2021 06:07

Looking forward to your review when it arrives Waitingforthesun :)
I love a bag thread .

BML123 · 05/03/2021 07:00

@RazzleDazz1e I did the same purchase at Christmas but now feel slightly guilty as of course it has not left wrapping due to lock down
I see it as an investment and kicking myself I did not do it 20 years ago when they were a 1/5th of the price!
