Are these cool/old lady/something else?

I saw these sandals last summer and loved them, but then thought they might in actual fact be awful and old lady like, but I am back looking at them again and cannot tell what they actually look like.

What do you think?

They look comfortable if unattractive! (I’m 42 for reference!)

VinylDetective · 27/02/2021 14:41

@nancy75

I don’t think every one will look like an old lady, I don’t think old ladies like my Nan was really exist anymore (unless already 80+ and already there) I look at my mum (66) and her friends (60-75) and none of them look anything like as old as my nan did in her 40’s. My mum would chop her own head off before she’d have a perm & a blue rinse!
Those women are the next generation of old ladies so their look is the new definition.

For me old lady in summer = white capri pants, loose top, gold/silver sandals or ballet pumps. I might be the same age as those women but no, just no!

PatsyStone39 · 27/02/2021 14:44

Old lady - I'm 39.

Uggs of all kinds should be banned. Uggly.

TrixieMixie · 07/03/2021 18:42

Old lady - I am 58 and would not go near these!

Tomasinabombadil · 07/03/2021 18:59

I’m 67 and think that these look ‘old lady’. I live in Birkenstock Arizona’s for 9 months of the year, weather permitting, but in lots of different colours just not black or brown/tan.🙂

MrsVeryTired · 07/03/2021 19:02

I like them, but I am close to 50 Smile

Think it would depend what they are worn with, some slim black ankle grazers, well fitted t-shirt and they'd look fine, IMO.

I like chunky sandals though, skinny legs so they look fine.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 07/03/2021 19:05

@PrinceRogersNelson. Old lady sandals.
Check out doc martin leopard print sandals. Coooooool

Tomasinabombadil · 07/03/2021 19:07

[quote Dashie]I have some similar ones made by fit flops but they are darker and darker soled.
I had so many compliments when I wore them last summer, from all ages. I am 42. Maybe they look better on?

I have these. To be honest I think they look pretty ugly in the photo!!

I like the sole unit on FitFlops.
IMO it’s the white sole on the OP’s sandals that makes them look ‘old lady’ and a bit of a bugger to keep clean too.🙂

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 07/03/2021 19:10

Both. All the trendy young things are wearing old lady sandals here in hip east London.

Disclaimer- am very much not a trendy young thing 😂

LalalalalalaLand123 · 07/03/2021 19:12

Oof they're horrible to me OP. I'm in my 40s. For actual old ladies and anyone with foot problems, I guess they are necessary. But they're not nice looking.

icelollycraving · 07/03/2021 19:17

My mum wouldn’t wear them as she’d think they are too biddyish. She’s 77.
I think they are not nice, I’m 48.
Perhaps if you are really cool, by default they may work?

SergeiL · 07/03/2021 19:33

Come on people. We need to be on each others sides. Calling other women frumpy, old ladies etc is a bit crap just because other people have different styles to you. In my experience, the most stylish people are the ones who basically have style, and wear whatever the hell they like. Not those who study fashion and try hard. We also need to get the next generation of women away from the mindset that comfy shoes = ‘fugly’ (which hate that phrase). Why shouldn’t women have healthy and comfortable feet.

MrsFionaCharming · 07/03/2021 19:38

I’m 29, and I quite like them. Finding sandals that aren’t too sporty, or too flat, or too narrow, that can be worn for hours walking around exploring on holiday is like finding the holy grail. I think they come pretty close.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 07/03/2021 19:44

@SergeiL I’m always pleased to see teens and twenty somethings in sensible footwear which won’t mangle their back. I wore heels for years for EVERYTHING. My back is trashed now.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 07/03/2021 19:44

Heels are old lady shoes now- nobody under 30 wears them any more 😂

failingmammalian · 07/03/2021 19:49

If you are very thin and leggy and brown then cool. Otherwise old lady
They look divine tho

maddiemookins16mum · 07/03/2021 19:51

£100 for a pair of sandals!!

SergeiL · 07/03/2021 20:02

@Usernamenotavailabletryanother exactly.

SergeiL · 07/03/2021 20:04

@MrsFionaCharming indeed. Who decided that women weren’t allowed to have comfortable footwear.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/03/2021 20:04

Old lady (I'm 44)

OppsUpsSide · 07/03/2021 20:12

I like them! The white sole isn’t ideal but not enough to put me off.

Bertiebiscuit · 07/03/2021 21:38

Both "old lady" AND cool. - that is a thing now in case you didn't know - actual cool is old hat - I give you big baggy jumpers over floaty dresses, socks and sandals, trainers with skirts, - all "old lady" chic - I rest my case

Happygirl79 · 07/03/2021 21:42

Old lady sandals... And incidentally I'm 67!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 07/03/2021 22:04

Mid 40's and I like them and think the picture prob makes them look more old lady than they are
But then I wear just what I like wether its fashionable or not , if I like it , i like it and am not too bothered what others think

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 07/03/2021 22:05

I also like the wedge sole but thats because I am 5ft 2 so need all the help I can get , but am useless in walking in a hill
