Are these cool/old lady/something else?

I saw these sandals last summer and loved them, but then thought they might in actual fact be awful and old lady like, but I am back looking at them again and cannot tell what they actually look like.

What do you think?

I’m an old lady and wouldn’t be seen dead in them .

MMM2 · 23/02/2021 19:00

As above, im an old lady and think they are awful sorry .

HiPieInTheSky · 23/02/2021 19:05

The TKmaxx ones I put up early on are nearly sold out, ladies have you been secretly buying them Grin

JaceLancs · 23/02/2021 20:21

I’m 56 and wouldn’t wear them the straps are too thick and I don’t like the contrast sole

HerselfIndoors · 23/02/2021 22:51

I have similar clumpy sandals and yet I think something’s not quite right about these - as pps have said the sole is ugly (but not in a trendy ugly way).

How about these keens

I lust after (but can’t afford) Marni sandals that are also similar, but better (imho!)

marni

MindBodyChocolate · 23/02/2021 22:57

A little bit old lady, and I do love an ugly sandal :)

thebabessavedme · 24/02/2021 00:20

my mum is 82 and I can reel off a few four letter words she would call them, 'nice' is not one of them! Grin

Jackie2022 · 24/02/2021 00:22

Not to be nasty but definitely uncool and definitely “old lady”

They look like they’re supposed to orthopaedic sandals, which is fine. They’re not remotely fashionable (and presumably they’re not intended to be)

thedevilinablackdress · 24/02/2021 07:38

It is beyond depressing to read page after page of 'old lady' as a negative.
You can claim is just some sort of harmless short hand, but language matters.
(The sandals are a little dull, btw)

Hazelmazel · 24/02/2021 07:52

I really like them but I have very painful feet so I always judge by what looks comfortable. Life's too short to wear painful shoes.
The Clark's ones look nicer but I wouldn't wear them because they have a flat foot bed.

MaudesMum · 24/02/2021 08:11

Thank you everyone - I've now started looking at sandals, as I'm looking for a pair that I can walk around cities in, and I now have loads of ideas!

seven30 · 24/02/2021 08:22

The comfier and clunkier the better in today's fashion. But who cares about fashion?

seven30 · 24/02/2021 08:23

There are cool

Are these cool/old lady/something else?
CaptainMyCaptain · 24/02/2021 08:24

I'd wear them, they look comfortable, I am an old lady but I have always worn comfortable shoes.

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/02/2021 08:27

Ooh god no.

Readyorknot · 24/02/2021 08:46

The chunkier and uglier, the more on trend. If you can't pull them off, you can't pull them off. It's possibly because you're wearing them with denim capri trousers and a dull linen blouse. And nude tights.

dudsville · 24/02/2021 08:52

I'm going to say this is a case where it really depends on who's wearing it and how. This item can go either way.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 24/02/2021 09:31

I’m in my 60s but can be cool (“your clothes are weird”) and I’d love them,

NotMeNoNo · 24/02/2021 10:18

I hate to say it but it's a worrying sign when you start thinking all the stuff in the shops/that young people are wearing is hideous and frumpy. I can remember my mum saying the same to me.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/02/2021 10:51

I saw these on Instagram worn with vintage clothes. I really like them but can remember seeing them in small ads aimed at old ladies, not in red though.

Same here. I can remember leaving a job in the 70s and one of the women there said 'I'll miss you. It was always interesting seeing what you'd turn up wearing'. I'm not sure it was a compliment but I took it as one.

What a delightfully ageist thread. My mum is 81 and wouldn't wear something as ugly as those. She has pretty Hotter ones and Merrel ones. It's nothing to do with age. Wear what you like and what you find comfy that fits. I love my Teva sandals and live in them March to October. They are probably ugly to some as they sure as hell aren't pretty but I walk for miles each day and they are comfy and practical for my needs so I don't care what anyone thinks. I March in my tevas to the beat of my own drum. I'm 44. Not that that matters. I've been in tevas for 20 years.

Tehmina23 · 24/02/2021 13:01

My mum is 72 soon & she has bad feet but wouldn't wear those!!

But that's not because of the shoes. I assume they're aimed at young, cool people because it's a cool brand.

I'm 35 and wouldn't been seen dead in Hotter or Merrel!
