Is anyone else obsessed with Katie Jane Hughes on Instagram?

I literally love her so much. She is so talented and every single look she does is just so beautiful!

Her tips are also amazing and have completely changed my make up game (eg. Eyeliner for hooded eyes, using smaller brushes for applying face makeup, cleaning up mistakes, using colour further up on the lid so that it doesn't disappear when you open your eyes, although I still can't do her brows!), I love her use of texture, the way she uses brushes in different ways, I purchased the awesome Weleda Skin Food because of her (as well as several other products). And her look is just such a refreshing change to the 'matte, cut crease, false lashes at all times' look that is still quite popular on social media.

Plus I love the new 'Katie Jane Hughes Academy' thing she is doing now where people copy her look and she will show them and tag them etc.

I am desperate for her new Spectrum brush set but don't think I will be able to justify 160 quid on it!

And plus, she just seems like a really cool person!

I promise I'm not her Mum or anything 😂 I was just wondering if anyone else loves her as much as I do? Grin

No she really does look like she could be my mother. My mum looks about her age and she is 54. So I don't wish, I know she does. Because I have eyes.

FellowFlipFlop · 23/02/2021 12:52

I would have put her age at around 48-50, trying to look younger. It's definitely not a look id go for but it's clearly working for her.

themuminator · 23/02/2021 12:52

@OppsUpsSide

Ooh she’s so shiny, like the crab on Moana.

Very watchable though, and naturally very pretty!

Best reply yet!

Loving this thread.

FloconDeNeige · 23/02/2021 14:45

@Morgan12

Soft-focus, rose-tinted eyes by the sounds of it! That or your mirror.

Morgan12 · 23/02/2021 15:36

Okay 👌

BarbaraofKent · 23/02/2021 17:54

You SERIOUSLY think this looks nice?

Yes. I think it looks gorgeous!

Get over it.

@Notanotherhun

People are being bitchy. #bekind Hmm
I agree. With the recent stories of Jesy from Little Mix etc being trolled for their looks a lot of these comments are a little to close to the bone.
BarbaraofKent · 23/02/2021 17:57

No way is she 36. I'm 36 and she looks like she could be my mother.

As if! 😂

KarensChoppyBob · 23/02/2021 18:21

The majority of people I've seen trotting out the cliche #bekind on social media have been the worst in terms of bitchiness.

They protest too much.

jaffar · 23/02/2021 18:26

@TSBelliot

This is a sign I am old. She is very lovely but that all looks awful to me - am sure that is a comment on my lack of modernity
Don't think it is. I'm in my 20s and agree!

Also doubt she's 36. I think her skills looks great but the looks are just odd. More like theatrical/drag makeup

gigity · 23/02/2021 18:28

No way is she 36. I'm 36 and she looks like she could be my mother.

Surely this is more representative of the fact you look like an embryo as opposed to the average 36 yr old.

DateLoaf · 23/02/2021 19:05

There’s some wierd comments on here.. she’s objectively a very nice looking woman already then with her make up on she looks absolutely amazing. Isnt that what everyone hopes that make up can do for us? I can’t see any problem with that.
It’s also not compulsory for anyone to take her tips if they feel it’s not for them. Hmm

Faith50 · 23/02/2021 19:25

I have had a look at her website. I find her make up very polished. She has great skin too.

I think she looks in her late 30's and not in her 50's as some posters have stated! She has no wrinkles whatsoever. I was expecting mutton dressed as lamb going by the comments.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 23/02/2021 19:30

I must admit l thought she was older than that. I guess that's what happens when you are taking make up off several times a day.

I also agree some of the comments on here are unnecessary. I know we don't have anything better to do at the moment but since when did crushing people become entertainment 🤔🤐

Nohomemadecandles · 23/02/2021 19:34

She's very attractive but all that make up makes her look a bit mucky. Sticky.

TSBelliot · 23/02/2021 19:47

lol Jaffar! I am not old.hurray! Yeah it would look ok on stage.

I find myself thinking she would look lovely if she just washed her face and out in some good lippy and a bit of cover up and mascara. It’s not long until I start saying ‘she has got too much much in her face’ like my gran used too.

MoltonSilver · 23/02/2021 19:58

She is beautiful and probably very talented but it looks like there's a lot of Vaseline involved Hmm

SugarfreeBlitz · 23/02/2021 20:24

She looks better with no make up.
Most people look best with very little makeup, tastefully applied, unless they are in a theatrical performance or perhaps for a big night out ( have forgotten how that feels!)

Sosigsandwich · 23/02/2021 20:29

She looks an absolute clip! Never heard of her but had a quick look, and looked away even quicker.

cheeseybean · 23/02/2021 20:41

I just love that, although yes she likes the 'shiny' look you can still see the realness of her skin - the pores, the fine lines. She applies foundation/concealer in such a way that it is light on her face (luckily she has good skin). But yep maybe her blusher is a bit bold for many mere mortals not hobnobbing with the NY jet set.

Also she isn't afraid of the greys in her hair - with all the bright bold make up, she is still very 'real' in my opinion.

I wonder if someone will alert her to this thread. If so, hi Katie I'm a big fan

Nonamesavail · 23/02/2021 21:19

She looks 36-38. Not my style though.

Christ I hope not - some people have been absolutely bloody horrible!

Hathertonhariden · 23/02/2021 23:54

To me it looks very heavy and harsh. I assumed she was mid to late 40s. The very shiny look doesn't do anything for me but no doubt it's shifting lots of product to her target market.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/02/2021 06:59

I followed her for a while but gave up pretty quickly as while she didn't seem to trowel it on like some MUAs, she's clearly working from a canvas of very heavy Botox/fillers and her face is weirdly robotic looking to me as a result. Combined with the shiny face it's all a bit too Fritz Lang's Metropolis for me.

The thing with sweaty looking make up is that - for me, I get sweatier as the day goes on and need to matte my skin a bit. There's nowhere to go if your starting point is looking like your whole face is about to slide off.

tofuschnitzel · 25/02/2021 09:03

@Whatsnewpussyhat

Why is she wearing biscuit cutters as earrings?

(Got the 'Shiny' song off Moana stuck in my head now)

You're just being bitchy now, which is uncalled for. You don't have to like the things OP does, but you can at least be polite about it and not resort to making fun of someone's attire.

I'm not sure why anyone would think this is a PR thread. Maybe if the account in question had a few thousand followers, which is not the case here. I don't follow KJH, though I am aware of her as I take an interest in make up.

Fair enough if many on here are not aware of the glass skin trend that I believe started in South Korea at least a year ago, and has slowly started to spread to European and American brands. But to dismiss it as looking like an oil slick and dirty is pretty poor of you. It's ok to not like something, but please don't perpetuate the myth that shiny or oily skin is dirty. It's normal skin. Make up brands have been moving away from overly matte looks for quite a while now, in favour of more natural looking skin. Apparently that trend hasn't reached Mumsnet.

Sorry you are getting such a rough reception here, OP. It's like being picked on at school, everyone wants their pound of flesh.
