I literally love her so much. She is so talented and every single look she does is just so beautiful!

Her tips are also amazing and have completely changed my make up game (eg. Eyeliner for hooded eyes, using smaller brushes for applying face makeup, cleaning up mistakes, using colour further up on the lid so that it doesn't disappear when you open your eyes, although I still can't do her brows!), I love her use of texture, the way she uses brushes in different ways, I purchased the awesome Weleda Skin Food because of her (as well as several other products). And her look is just such a refreshing change to the 'matte, cut crease, false lashes at all times' look that is still quite popular on social media.

Plus I love the new 'Katie Jane Hughes Academy' thing she is doing now where people copy her look and she will show them and tag them etc.

I am desperate for her new Spectrum brush set but don't think I will be able to justify 160 quid on it!

And plus, she just seems like a really cool person!

I promise I'm not her Mum or anything 😂 I was just wondering if anyone else loves her as much as I do? Grin

I've seen her on the Anna Edit a couple of times, but I wasn't wowed enough to go and check her out. It just isn't my style. I'm sure she is a very nice person, but I would look absurd with that sort of colour on my face.

CurlyReds · 19/02/2021 12:41

She’s too shiny and greasy. I would like to know how she gets her eyebrows like that though.

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2021 13:22

Shave off your eyebrows. Draw them back on only higher. Job done.

@dontgobaconmyheart

Weird thread. I think it's just instagram makeup isn't it. IG I fluencers do what makes them money and makes a striking image to attract engagement. Whether it looks good in real life (unlikely) or she even does that in her real life is another matter.

I don't get the fan girling over instagrammers, they literally get by on pretending you're they're best mate and you're helping them make a living when they're perfectly well off and have more money than you do. It's mad. Seeming nice in some vacuous DM's that take 5 seconds and are scheduled in for an hour each afternoon is very profitable if it means someone thinks getting one means she 'deserves' for them to buy overpriced brushes swipe up and buy whatever she's been given for free for a video.

It's not a jab at her specifically but it is a business formed on creating exactly how you think OP. You can google tips for hooded eyes anywhere, overlining the lips also. She looks to have had botox in the cheeks at least and frankly I (having just heard of her and watched a video) can't see her real skin in the after, she's covered in product and she looks nothing like when she starts with nothing on. It isn't a great effort if she is claiming the natural look. It also isn't a great look if she isn't, just looks smeared and a bit deranged and dirty at times.

Right, well that's me told then!

Personally, as I said, I have got loads of makeup tips from her and I had come on here to see if anyone else really liked her look like I do.

You clearly do not (and neither do most others on here) and that is fine, but I do take issue a little bit with sweeping statements about how I 'think'.

Her eyebrows blatantly aren't shaved Hmm given you can see the actual hairs on the videos
People are great at judging others aren't they? It's like nobody has heard of the glass skin trend or wearing any makeup that isn't natural. Or that a makeup artist who mostly works in editorial is a completely different look to someone who does bridal makeup

peoplearepeople · 19/02/2021 14:07

I remember a thread about her on here before...
Here it is. Mixed opinions there as well.

I'm not a fan personally. I do quite like a glowy look, but I think there is a fine line between a bit of a glow and sweaty/greasy looking?
For bright colours I always liked killer colours on instagram. I think you probably have to scroll down quite a bit for her more unusual looks a she's a bit tamer nowadays. She has a face that can take strong make up though.

I love her. Similarly have picked up little tips and just love looking at the 'looks' she does - they're like art! And think her eyebrows are amazing, rather than the thick blocky ones other IGers sometimes have.

goldielockdown2 · 19/02/2021 17:03

Yep. Love her looks and I do similar myself so I appreciate her a lot

stevalnamechanger · 19/02/2021 19:23

She is SO talented . The looks and variance she can do .

holyshitballs · 19/02/2021 19:42

I love her. Could watch her videos for hours!

BarbaraofKent · 19/02/2021 21:33

Glad I have finally found some other fans! Her latest KJH Academy look is just gorgeous!

Why is she so shiny? Is shiny 'good'? It looks sweaty. Damp. Makes her eyeshadow look wet too.

I think I prefer the dry, clean look.

This smacks of a promo OP. Clearly fishing for new followers
Omg the thought of Katie Jane Hughes having to come on mumsnet for new followers is hilarious! Shes a hugely successful makeup artist and has also launched new make up brushes. Before covid she also did master classes etc. Plus she has 100s of 1000s of followers so i dont think she needs the help of mumsnet! Her looks are more editorial but i like the fact she has fun with makeup and doesnt go down the route so many other Instagrammers do. Who cares that she wears that makeup outside. Good for her! She lives in NYC. Im sure there's more weird and wonderful people than her. I really like her, she's very interactive with her followers and the photos she posts of other people wearing her looks shows you that theu can be made more "wearable"
Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/02/2021 17:21

Why is she wearing biscuit cutters as earrings?

(Got the 'Shiny' song off Moana stuck in my head now)

I love how she plays with eyeshadow placement as well in a way that a lot of other Instagrammers/MUAs don't. It's often: transition shade in crease, deepen in outer corner, concealer to cut crease (I love that she never does this because it's so hard!), shimmer on top, liner, lashes etc.

KJH mixes it up all the time. Obviously some of these looks are pretty strong (although I love wearing colour) but I just pick up the tips I like and ignore the stuff that's not for me (eg. Overlining lips with Endless Cacao!)

Not very effectively, since most posters seem to agree she looks weirdly shiny with occasionally toddler-style eyeshadow. Grin

I think most people replying aren't comparing her to other Instagrammers/MUAs like you are, because most of the people replying probably aren't interested in watching videos of people putting on make-up, and have only looked her up because of your thread.
Bluenightowl · 20/02/2021 20:25

I had never heard of her but she’s the opposite to the ‘natural look’ so I’m definitely not her target market.

MrsMaryClausFace · 20/02/2021 20:31

@BarbaraofKent I am a big KJH fan! Like you, I have learned so much, it's not so much about the colours she uses but about her different applications, the wide range of brands that she uses, and the fact she isn't 23, matte and contoured that appeals to me.

Nothing wrong with being 23, matte and contoured but it's not my cup of tea.

I also loved it when she was home last year and filming with her mum!

She does wear outrageous clothes though, a far cry from my daily uniform of leggings and wellies Grin

Carycy · 20/02/2021 20:47

I have recently started following and like her except for that weird overlined lip look that everyone seems to do at the moment.

BarbaraofKent · 20/02/2021 21:47

Yes, these are good examples of her playing with eyeshadow placement. Glad I have found at least a few fellow fans on here!

@BarbaraofKent
I love the eyeshadow in those last pics! I probably wouldn't be brave enough myself to wear it like that but I love how different it looks.

Notanotherhun · 22/02/2021 13:15

Think I'll swerve. Lisa Eldridge is what makeup looks like.
