I literally love her so much. She is so talented and every single look she does is just so beautiful!

Her tips are also amazing and have completely changed my make up game (eg. Eyeliner for hooded eyes, using smaller brushes for applying face makeup, cleaning up mistakes, using colour further up on the lid so that it doesn't disappear when you open your eyes, although I still can't do her brows!), I love her use of texture, the way she uses brushes in different ways, I purchased the awesome Weleda Skin Food because of her (as well as several other products). And her look is just such a refreshing change to the 'matte, cut crease, false lashes at all times' look that is still quite popular on social media.

Plus I love the new 'Katie Jane Hughes Academy' thing she is doing now where people copy her look and she will show them and tag them etc.

I am desperate for her new Spectrum brush set but don't think I will be able to justify 160 quid on it!

And plus, she just seems like a really cool person!

I promise I'm not her Mum or anything 😂 I was just wondering if anyone else loves her as much as I do? Grin

That said, I don't like her makeup style. I suspect her eyebrows would look so odd in real life, they're literally just pen flicks. Her eyeshadow placement is weird. She wears so much bronzer/blusher her cheeks always look muddy. And she has a penchant for beef lips (beige nude lip colours).

True about the eyebrows (I can't be arsed with something like brow flick tbh) although I don't think they would look any weirder than normal 'drawn on' brows?

What do you mean by eyeshadow placement being weird? That's one of the things that has changed my makeup - before I would keep the eyeshadow right on the crease and then wonder why it would disappear when I had my eyes open/in photos. Now I take it up quite a bit further and it is much more visible, without looking ridiculous. She does have quite a big space up to her brows, but then so do I, so that works for me.

I don't think that most of the lip colours she does would suit me, and I suspect that Endless Cacao (which she uses for almost every look that isn't a statement red lip) would make me look like a corpse, but I love it on her!

That's not a good look. It looks like face painting.

jackieweaverismyhero · 18/02/2021 17:53

so shiny. not keen.

I love Pat McGrath's insta, and Bailey Sarian (murder and makeup)

QueenPaw · 18/02/2021 17:55

@KirstenBlest which one? I mean.. sorry, but I will be defensive for her because
A - she is a trained makeup artist who works on celebrities and high profile people, it's literally her job
And b you can't say "all looks the same/like face painting" when there is hundreds of looks Confused
How can black liner and a red lip being the most classic makeup ever look like face painting?

Too shiny for me, I'm not keen. I much prefer Sam Chapman.

mylovelydd · 18/02/2021 18:02

I think I must be very old now because when I do my makeup I spend lots of time dusting my Charlotte Tilbury powder all over my face to get rid of the oil slick look.
I am not a hip MUA though so what do I know?

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2021 18:04

Queen, it looks like she's shaded bits of her face and highlighted others. It might be my screen, but if that was my DD i'd be spitting on my hanky.

Wow! Awful! Sorry op

BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 18:27

Yes, I don't get what is so 'awful' about the pictures that Queenpaw has posted? Confused

I'm not keen on the lip colour in the middle photo, but I prefer pinkier lips generally.

It might be that I have become accustomed to the 'less matte' look now so don't see it as 'shiny' in the way that everyone else does Grin

It’s a no from me. Her makeup looks horribly oily and she uses too much eye make up and strong lips at the same time. It’s one or the other.

Are those pictures representative of her makeup?

It looks very blocky to my untrained eye. Like you can see a line of blusher / bronzer across her cheeks in each one and a distinct difference between blusher bit and non blusher bit. The second photo especially is not in any way flattering!

I always thought makeup is to enhance what you have and should look natural, at least on your skin: ie properly matched foundation and blended in blusher so it just looks like a healthy glow. I accept that eyeliner and mascara and lipstick (that i do also wear) are not natural, but they are highlights against a background. I want people to think my skin looks naturally flawless, not like I am wearing a mask!

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2021 18:38

That's the usual advice Barb, "a smoky eye or a strong lip".

A big like 'legs or cleavage '.

cheeseybean · 18/02/2021 18:40

I thoroughly believe you're not KJH, OP as I too would have written a post like this. I'm a real fan girl, I've been following her for years.
I'm not as adventurous so wouldn't even attempt most of the looks but I just LOVE looking at her face. She is so striking! And she really goes for letting the skin shine through rather than being plastered with heavy foundation.

Also she does the gorgeous Ashley Graham's face, and Rosie Hungtinton-whassername who always look so flawless and understated. I think KJH Instagram is her 'playground' where she can experiment with the crazy looks and showcase her talent.

I love her! Hahaha

It always seemed to be the beauty rule in magazines of my youth and seems to have stuck with me. So no - over done eyes and lips (together) are not my thing at all.
Magnificentmug12 · 18/02/2021 18:43

Not my thing at all!! However I have a girl crush on Amber Lancaster on Instagram!! I love her! 😂

What is the point of wearing blusher if you can't see the difference between 'the blusher bit and the non blusher bit'? Grin

She wears very little base a lot of the time - she tends to use concealer with a small brush and then blend that, rather than a full face of foundation (although she does sometimes do that) you can often see the texture of her actual skin in photos, so not mask like at all.

The whole point is that you can see her skin, that's why she looks so 'shiny'!

I don't think any of those looks posted above look like a mask, they would all be lovely options for me for an evening out makeup (apart from the lips in the middle photo).

God no, she looks like she’s been dunked head-first in a vat of Vaseline. I thought her Valentine’s look was more suitable for halloween.

BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 18:55

Yay @cheeseybean another fan! I'm definitely not her, for one people can advance search my username (although I name changed fairly recently) and secondly, she has well over half a million followers on Instagram so I don't think she needs to grift for followers on MN!

I agree that she does like to play and showcase her looks on Instagram, particularly I guess since Covid and probably not having as much work. She is pretty experimental and has come up with all these little tips about placement and using tools etc that I haven't really seen from other MUAs. She does wear all her looks out and about in NY though!

lazylinguist · 18/02/2021 19:00

Sorry, no! Awful, weird, shiny and unnatural.

The whole point is that you can see her skin, that's why she looks so 'shiny'!

Are you suggesting that normal, bare skin looks shiny like that?! She doesn't look shiny because you can see her skin. She looks shiny because she's put a load of shiny stuff on her face. Grin

Graffitiqueen · 18/02/2021 19:02

No sorry. She's a beautiful woman but I really don't like her makeup looks at all.

RogueV · 18/02/2021 19:04

No.

KitchenFairy · 18/02/2021 19:06

She looks greasy, and the post looks like an ad.

UncleBrynsMySpaceFriend · 18/02/2021 19:09

Yup
BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 19:15

Are you suggesting that normal, bare skin looks shiny like that?!

Well given that there is a rather large market for pressed powders, loose powders, mattifying primers, mattifying foundations, facial blotting sheets, in the fight against oiliness, then yes I would say that real skin can look very shiny! Plus my skin looks shiny after I have done my skincare etc (especially these days after using Weleda Skin Food Wink)

She does use highlighters etc as well in certain areas but says that she prefers to let her skin underneath come through. Embrace the shine! Grin
