Have we seen the back of wearing heels?

This article hasn't told me anything I don't already know really, but I was never much of a heel wearer. To me heels are anything over 2" high, and I can't wait to kick them off as soon as I can.

Haven’t worn them in years and in my opinion, they look ridiculous. I think future generations will look back at heels like we look at the Victorian bustle.

SarahBellam · 21/02/2021 21:02

No, they look stupid and try hard. Making yourself more vulnerable and uncomfortable for the sake of pretending to have longer legs is bonkers.

@Booths

Just a comment from me to say how much I appreciate heels from an observational point of view. I’m a gentleman who should know better but I literally can’t take my eyes off a pair of high heeled shoes. Six inch looks a bit forced to me and four inch a bit staid so I’d settle for five inch for perfection! I do hope that heel fashion isn’t in decline. Really enjoying reading all the different points of view on this thread!
Oh lovely. The menz has arrived to tell us to keep wearing ridiculous uncomfortable shoes so they can get their rocks off.

Like footbinding.

I used to wear massive heels in my 20s but dont anymore (34). I wore flats to an interview last year, took heels in my bag which I put on and right after the interview put my flats back on.

I like a heeled boot right enough

Foot and Ankle surgeon.

They should have been banned decades ago.

FinallyFluid · 22/02/2021 09:52

Anyone else got car to bar shoes. ???? Grin

Actually I’ve bought a cross body bag this year and a laptop- backpack type bag that also has a bit that slides onto the handle of my wheeled suitcase. Both lovely leather but very practical & smart-casual. My DSis saw them and make exactly the same kind of form/function points being made about heels here.

I can walk in these and look forward to wearing them with a beautiful grey wool dress when we are allowed out.

These below however are definitely car to bar shoes.... Grin

I have them in a pale pink.

I've a collection of v posh heels that DH adds to each birthday or Christmas. I can run in them though from years of wearing them to work, and really think they make an outfit when going out somewhere nice for dinner or to a wedding or some such event.

I wear trainers for work now and posh trainers for every day wear.

Each to their own I suppose, I'd never think badly of anyone else's choice of footwear, well unless they wear tights with sandals which is a crime IMO.

lockdownalli · 22/02/2021 10:18

It will be interesting to see if the beautiful young women I work with still wear heels when we all return to court. There is an unwritten uniform of black tailoring and heels.

I am old so can get away with boots in winter and flats in summer.

Craftycorvid · 22/02/2021 23:28

Quit wearing heels in my early 20s, now mid-50s. Literally no idea how, but I used to be able to run for a bus in 6 inch spikes! (Calm down, Booths). Nowadays I wear a range of DMs, Converse and Veja trainers. In 99% of instances, flats work just fine with any outfit, but what always defeats me is a ‘smart’ occasion. Very formal clothes don’t suit me anyway, but unless I want to turn up in trousers to every wedding I ever attend, I’m stuck. Fortunately, I’m also a pagan and the handfasting dress code is pretty much anything goes!

The day I head to the office in a smart dress with a pair of Choos in my bag will be the day I feel like life has returned somewhat to normal.
