Have we seen the back of wearing heels?

This article hasn't told me anything I don't already know really, but I was never much of a heel wearer. To me heels are anything over 2" high, and I can't wait to kick them off as soon as I can.

I haven't worn them for years, even for weddings and no intention of ever wearing them again.

Unfucked · 14/02/2021 21:34

We’ll look back on high heels the way our grandmothers’ generation looked back on corsets: bemusement and horror, despite recognising their ability to work miracles with human proportions.

Changi · 14/02/2021 21:37

I wore heels to go to the shop today. I can't see me giving them up any time soon.

Archersandlemonade · 14/02/2021 21:37

I hope they are always around sometimes
You just need then to make the outfit look right

andshopsandtrees · 14/02/2021 21:40
I'm keeping mine. I'm looking forward to wearing them again on nights out, for occasions we have planned, including a cruise we've got booked next year. I'm fact I've just got these in the Dorothy Perkins sale ready for our cruise

Yikes

GinIsNotOriginal · 14/02/2021 21:40

I love them for glamour and in certain places! Day to day in London and even nights out in London I usually wear flats

PerfidiousAlbion · 14/02/2021 21:41

@StooriMidori

Haven't worn heels for years as I just find them so uncomfortable. It's so frustrating that shoe designers don't make flat versions of their heeled shoes. My shoe collection would be massive if they did!
This.

I have some really pretty pointed toe flat slingbacks from 2019 which I'd love to buy more of but nobody does them now.

About time they went out of fashion, who really needs them?

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 14/02/2021 21:47

Good news all round

Gastropod · 14/02/2021 21:55

So much more to "heels" than just stilettos and court shoes! I love wearing heels and find they are so much more comfortable than flats.
Block heeled boots or heeled brogues are great in winter and go with so many outfits. Wedge sandals or peep toes in the summer.
And yes every now and then a pair of killer sparkly heels just for the hell of it.
Obviously if I'm going running or hiking I'll wear trainers or hiking boots but pretty much anything else... give me a pair of heels!

Providora · 14/02/2021 22:02

I'm torn, I do love mine and what they do to my proportions but they are impractical and unfashionable nowadays.

Mostly because at 5'11 I'm 3 inches taller than DP... fortunately he has a bit of an Amazon fetish so my favourite heels still get a private airing sometimes Grin

Can't say I've ever found them uncomfortable or difficult to walk in but mine were chosen very carefully.

I have a collection of pointy flats for special occasions and would wear something like these or a strappy patent pair with a formal dress:

Floisme · 14/02/2021 22:17

MissLucy thanks - I think I've got into a bit of a flats rut so it's good to get some suggestions.

VenusClapTrap · 14/02/2021 23:52

I like kitten heels

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 14/02/2021 23:57

@floorplanner

I think heels were over even before covid and now I think they look extremely dated. Loved them and wore them throughout my 20s, but they are absolutely awful things let's face it.
Yes I think they look dated too. They’re not comfortable, they make everything you do in them less safe and they are not trainers which I have come to realise are what feet like.
GinIsNotOriginal · 15/02/2021 00:10

Feel free to shoot me down and it’s perhaps internalised misogyny but I think heels are dated!!
My mum (aged 57) wears them as part of her ‘glam’ look, along with all of her friends. Any dinner out etc is always heels! Whereas younger women (I’m 30 so hope I can include myself in that bracket!) tend to favour trainers. When I was in Paris (pre-covid) I didn’t see any you f women wearing heels on a night out.
I work with two female surgeons- both in their 40s. Incredible, accomplished women but the one who wears heels on her ward round seems far more dated in her aesthetic than her colleague who wears trainers or converse to work.
I love s&b! The only place I can share such thoughts

Booths · 15/02/2021 00:37

Just a comment from me to say how much I appreciate heels from an observational point of view. I’m a gentleman who should know better but I literally can’t take my eyes off a pair of high heeled shoes. Six inch looks a bit forced to me and four inch a bit staid so I’d settle for five inch for perfection! I do hope that heel fashion isn’t in decline. Really enjoying reading all the different points of view on this thread!

Hmm

Thanks, that's made me much happier about not wearing mine outside the house again, don't want old pervs staring at them while I'm going about my business.

If you love them, feel free to wear them yourself. You too can discover the agony of the ball of your foot feeling like it is on fire, and your ankle feeling like it is about to snap. Such a sexy feeling. Hmm
Snog · 15/02/2021 06:36

I despise heels and really don't think they look sexy or flattering on anybody. Kind of like wearing handcuffs on your wrists when you go out.

Ginfordinner · 15/02/2021 06:41

I'm not fashionable so I don't think that heels look as dated as some posters do. I just find them uncomfortable and impractical.

@Providora @wellthatsunusual lighten up !!!!!!

violetbunny · 15/02/2021 08:39

I'm 5"2 and will die wearing heels 😂

StrangerHereMyself · 15/02/2021 08:53

At 5’4” I used to find them useful for conversations held standing at work, especially in noisy environments like pubs or parties. All my workmates are six foot or thereabouts and if I wear flats the conversation literally goes right over my head. An extra three or four inches gives me a slight hope of being in touch with the group (doesn’t help that I’m slightly hearing impaired).

wellthatsunusual · 15/02/2021 09:05
**@Providora* @wellthatsunusual* lighten up !!!!!!
No need.

I was offering a suggestion for a man who says he likes heels.
