Have we seen the back of wearing heels?

This article hasn't told me anything I don't already know really, but I was never much of a heel wearer. To me heels are anything over 2" high, and I can't wait to kick them off as soon as I can.

Love heels, but not high ones. Around 1.5 inches is perfect.

Ginfordinner · 14/02/2021 14:46

What I do hope is that fashion designers have taken notice of the current interest in flats and will use their skills to give us a few more alternatives to brogues, trainers, loafers and ballet flats

So do I.

@Ccwanker

I can safely say kitten heels are the most awful footwear ever invented.
I find them harder to walk in than high heels.
TheChampagneGalop · 14/02/2021 14:58

Why are they called "kitten" heels anyway? Something about that bothers me.

NeedWineNow · 14/02/2021 15:16

I'm keeping mine. I'm looking forward to wearing them again on nights out, for occasions we have planned, including a cruise we've got booked next year. I'm fact I've just got these in the Dorothy Perkins sale ready for our cruise

Mostly when I leave the house now I'm wearing walking boots except for my once a week trip to the supermarket when I wear my Moshulu chukka boots. I have a wardrobe full of unworn (this season) boots and shoes and my feet have probably spread to a point that I won't be able to get into anything with a slightly pointed toe. The only thing stopping me clearing them all out is that the charity shops are all shut.

lollipoprainbow · 14/02/2021 15:53

Hell no I've just brought some comfy black ones from m and s!

lollipoprainbow · 14/02/2021 15:54

@Lifeispassingby same!

Yubaba · 14/02/2021 15:55

TheChampagneGalop they are named after young girls ie kittens as stiletto heels were seen as too sexy for teenagers.
They were invented by Dior in the 1950s.

Euridicefortuna · 14/02/2021 16:07

I love heels,I wear them daily.I am an Irregular Choice collector so have quite a big collection.My everyday shoes have a 3inch heel anything over that are going out shoes.Haven't been out in ages though,might have to wear the 'going out shoes'to the supermarket.

MiddlesexGirl · 14/02/2021 16:12

@Floisme

I'm not seeking to eradicate heels and I'm sure they'll come back into fashion. What I do hope is that fashion designers have taken notice of the current interest in flats and will use their skills to give us a few more alternatives to brogues, trainers, loafers and ballet flats.

Oh and whenever I'm talking about heels, I make an exception for platforms, which I adore.

Definitely. I haven't yet been able to find a comfortable, flat-ish but not utilitarian shoe to wear with a dress or skirt.
Ginfordinner · 14/02/2021 16:27

there is definite;y a gap in the market for this kind of shoes. There are regular posts on MN where posters are looking for flat shoes that are also stylish.

Does anyone else look at them and think they, well, look a bit ugly?

Some a bit 'loose women' panel about them.

sansucre · 14/02/2021 16:49

No, we haven't seen the back of wearing heels, particularly as they're not compulsory! Fashion is such an individual choice, thankfully, so those who want to wear heels will continue to do so, and those who do not, will not.

I think once life begins to return to normal, many will relish an opportunity to dress up again. I have really struggled during lockdown and been quite depressed about not having an opportunity to dress up, so, on occasion, get dressed up to go to the supermarket and wear heels. If anything, being mostly home in leisurewear for almost a year has really made me appreciate my fancier clothes and high heels, and plan to wear them so much more once I am able to do so.

StooriMidori · 14/02/2021 16:49

Haven't worn heels for years as I just find them so uncomfortable. It's so frustrating that shoe designers don't make flat versions of their heeled shoes. My shoe collection would be massive if they did!

Hell yes. I mean I like a utilitarian vibe and I really like brogues, I've worn them for years and I think they're stylish. It's just sometimes I'd like a change, you know? And I don't mean trainers either - I don't like them.

Come on designers, sort it out - do you want my money or not?

TheHoundsofLove · 14/02/2021 17:03

I agree there's a real gap in the market for dressier flat shoes, that aren't ballet flats. I packed away all my heels a few weeks ago as really don't think I'll ever choose to wear them again. Whilst I love them to look at, I just sort of feel as though my style has totally moved on from them now.

schnubbins · 14/02/2021 17:18

I had my ankle fused 5 years ago and can now only wear Skechers.I still mourn my lovely shoes .Some outfits just need heels .Not being able to wear pretty shoes sucks.

Jackie2022 · 14/02/2021 17:20

I’ll still wear them, they suit some outfits.

Tbh heels really tone my legs in a way that weight lifting doesn’t. I’d rather wear heels on days that I’m doing nothing (eg ankle boots) so that on a day where I’m seeing people and want to wear trainers, my legs look super toned. If I wear trainers 24/7, my legs look shit

JaneJeffer · 14/02/2021 17:22

I got these recently. Of course I can't go anywhere to wear them but they look nice and are non-crippling.

@TheNorthWind

I think they mostly feel incredibly dated. Like 2003 dated. I can't imagine when or where I'd want to wear them.

A pair of plain courts in the office is one thing (hardly high fashion and I still don't want to) but the thought of tottering around on a pair of stiletto heeled boots or painfully high "going out" shoes is an anathema. I would look ridiculous.

I think it's going to be kitten or low heels at most for a while. And permanently for me Grin

Agree - especially when worn for work by middle-aged women (like me Smile) - really ageing and makes us look as if we've never left 1989.

Kitten heels are the work of Satan, however - proper flats and trainers all the way.

Jigsaw and Whistle both do stylish flats, especially in summer.
goose1964 · 14/02/2021 21:04

I don't think heels will go but the 4 and 5 inches won't be around. For years a high heel was 3 inches, so I suspect we'll go back to that.

CathyorClaire · 14/02/2021 21:08

Haven't worn them for years.

What's good enough for the boys is good enough for me.

PerfidiousAlbion · 14/02/2021 21:18

For me, heels were only ever 3" - no higher.

I'd wear them to formal events such as business meetings, formal dinners, parties and weddings but never again for anything else.

I think they look dated now for everyday wear.

I do like wedges though.
