@Saurus72

God, it’s terrifying. I understand the initial knee-jerk reaction as everyone turned to survival mode but a real shame it hasn’t recovered.

Well, my longed-for wrap dress arrived (this one www.toa.st/uk/product/all+sale/c1pfa/bloom+print+wrap+dress.htm ) and it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever tried from Toast. The fabric felt so cheap, honestly like something you’d find on the 70% off sale rack at Monsoon. Plus very poorly fitting at the top - couldn’t take a photo as it was indecent. Going straight back, how they ever could have thought it was worth £220 is beyond me. I wouldn’t pay £40 for it.

But! At least I tried it and now I know - Toast wrap dresses are not for me. Think my sale shopping is done now with the exception of stalking bargain cashmere from JL.

I have had dresses like this from Toast since they started using viscose.
Saurus72 · 20/01/2021 09:14

I have lots of Toast viscose dresses and they’re good IMO - they don’t feel synthetic or cheap. My OH felt this fabric and said ‘it feels like an inner tube’ 😜. It felt more like thick nylon to me, horrible.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 20/01/2021 15:50

Yes, some of the viscose is lovely. Almost like a nice satin like cotton. However I have the pinwheel dress and its an entirely different viscose. Beautiful colour and print but I did hesitate at the feel. Its more like polyester from the past.

AmethystMoonShine · 21/01/2021 12:08

The Olive linen dress arrived and I like it a lot. It’s roomy so will be lovely on warmer days. I might play around to see if it’s any good with tights and cardigan though for spring or autumn too. Love the colour.

Amethyst I really love that dress, I panic- ordered the orange one just before the sale ended!
I sized down as reviews said that it was big , but i hope it wil fir around n my bust ..

Saurus72 · 21/01/2021 14:36

It’s a really good dress @AmethystMoonShine - olive/khaki is such a great colour. Will look fab with flat tan sandals maybe?
I bought the olive green linen coat dress as my final sale purchase yesterday, hopefully will arrive tomorrow. Then I am sitting on my hands until Spring because I’m wearing the same cashmere jumpers/jersey skirts every day for wfh and I can’t see that changing for a while yet so I have a backlog of things I want to wear before I buy anything else 😬

AuldFox · 21/01/2021 15:15

I have many new dresses I haven’t worn yet. Probably enough for the next 3 summers....

That olive dress is your colour amethyst Fab!

ToastCosILoveIt · 21/01/2021 16:17

I too had a little last flurry in the sale: the Chie Mihara High Ankle Boots in black which are lovely soft leather and a keeper. I almost never wear anything that isn't completely flat but these have a small heel and will look perfect with the plethora of shorter trousers from Toast and other places that I have.

The Wool Twill Pleat Trousers in black: they are a really thick felt wool and very true to size. They feel very heavy and I'm not sure they are entirely comfortable so I think they are going back.

The Green Dropped Waist Dress: lvoely and silky and a flatering neck line. As someone in the review said, swooshes as you move, am definately keeping this as it can be worn with boots and a cardigan or jumper in winter and with sandals in early summer.

Finally, had a bit of a splurge with the Emily Nixon Kelp Ring. Absolutely lovely.

I'm kind of pleased to see the sale stuff be taken down as I kept going back and prevaricating over the long stripped blue dress that had very mixed reviews. I feel very untempted by any of the new stuff so far except the Indigo Denim Panel Skirt. It is very expensive but has had good reviews and will probably sell out even at the extortionate price that it is.

faustina · 21/01/2021 16:26

@AmethystMoonShine - that dress is perfect on you

no last minute Toast sale buys for me - I'm waiting for John Lewis to start their further reductions which might induce some temptation, but also need to start wearing all my new jumpers.

Also going to list a few Kin/Toast things on eBay which aren't earning their keep. Have you seen the ridiculous prices they're charging people post-brexit there? Someone in Spain bought a coat from me and it cost them an absolute fortune in taxes!

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 17:02

@faustina are you posting abroad? I actually stopped. Just thought I i didnt want the hassle of it taking ages and then issues if it didn't arrive.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 17:03

I was a part of the global shipping but unsure of the terms and conditions now.

faustina · 21/01/2021 17:12

@Fortherosesjoni70 - yes it was part of the global shipping thing, where you send it to an address in the UK and it forwards it to the buyer? I sold a pair of Toast trousers that way last year and it worked fine - it's all guaranteed so long as you send it to the UK centre with something trackable.

This time though, the poor woman had something like 30 or 40 euros wacked on top in taxes - it was ridiculous - it wasn't even a very expensive coat, just a Uniqlo Lemaire trench I'd never worn. I don't think I'll bother again though, not til they sort out taxes!

faustina · 21/01/2021 17:20

... meant to add. I spotted this yesterday - it's the jumper some of you bought and sent back @Laska2Meryls I think you did?

It looks lovely on her (and a very moving story too)

Toast striped jumper

Laska2Meryls · 21/01/2021 17:43

Faustina yes , I sent it back, it was very heavy and the arms stuck out where they were sewn on, but yes it looks great on her..
I got a Woolovers catalogue today through the post this jumper is very similar, I thought!!.

The sale linen kaftan tops in green and blue arrive today , I really like them. Wool Gabis lovely, the 10 fitted perfectly but were sadly far too short for winter trousers I thought .. and as for the the loop back trousers ( they are selling them still in the new collection full price) .. they were quite simply the worst Toast thing I had ever seen.. Huge really wide and floppy.. (they were a small and I could have got all of me into one leg).
am quite excited no about the orange dress.

I have one of the red square kaftan tops , but tbh its probably too big.. Was really hoping that a S would pop up but no Sad its lovely though, I may just keep it ..

In a last minute grab, I bought the alpaca lace jumper in beige from JL. It is lovely, much nicer than expected. Heavy weight but needs something underneath because a bit see through otherwise .

Saurus72 · 21/01/2021 19:03

@AuldFox I always find this time of year hard style-wise as it it’s just about not freezing to death so it all gets quite competitive. Summer’s much easier - can’t wait to be wafting around in all of my new dresses, will definitely brighten up my groundhog wfh days.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 19:05

That's good. I have used it before. Just wondered if there were any changes with it with Brexit.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 19:07

I had received a few things today too. I bought the velvet dress. I love it. Also the silk PJ top. Nice but its expensive for what it is. Looks nice under the velvet dress actually. Also In the JL sale I managed to get a pair of brown wool Alex trousers which are fab and I love. @Laska2Meryls I wore mine today with my oxblood DM's and they looked great. No gap. Very pleased with everything.

Saurus72 · 21/01/2021 19:24

Oh @Fortherosesjoni70 I looked at that velvet dress soooo many times but I couldn’t decide which size to get. Is it very oversized? I’ve already got a plan to buy it in the next sale.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 19:33

I would say size down as per usual. There was one review that says that its neat on the bust. It is maybe a little bit. I am at the top end of a 12 and ordered a 10. Its fine. There is something rather classic about the cut. For some, many would say its shapeless but to me because of the seam going across it at the bottom it reminds me very much of a 1920's dress. It looks good equally with a belt. Its neat on the bust but falls generously from there and its a nice length. Its the most beautiful blue. I can envisage it with a blouse under it or a round neck top with beads and my dm's . I intended to wear it to death!
My only issue is the dry cleaning. Its the type of velvet you daren't try and wash.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 19:35

Then again, that is ok as its a dress I would really always want to wear something under it as a pinafore.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 21/01/2021 19:36

So it will be aired frequently!!!! Unless someone has a solution to wash silk velvet?

Countmeout · 22/01/2021 13:32

Just thinking aloud. Pity there’s no picture of the following dresses on a model (however unlike a model I am)
I like them both

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+new+collection/cjqal/button+back+cotton+dress.htm?clr=CJQAL_WashedBlack_sw

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+new+collection/cjpaf/garment+dyed+linen+tunic+dress.htm?clr=CJPAF_BrightOlive_sw

Saurus72 · 22/01/2021 15:08

Agreed @Countmeout I think they will really struggle with no models because it at least gives an indication of the shape, length etc. It’s curious they haven’t been able to do this - I saw on the JL website they’re showing their own images of the clothes on models which is helpful.

AmethystMoonShine · 22/01/2021 16:16

I think more of the linen dresses (Olive and orange/gold) in the sale would have sold with model photos. The back is very well constructed, really great design which means the belt doesn’t gather the material in an unflattering way when it’s done up. It justifies the higher price for sure.
