Yes , I think so too Templetrees I really don't mind paying for something special, ( like last AW Italian Wool checked skirt -albeit with the 15% off as I referred my Dad Wink 🤭)..
But I am not into paying just for the brand name and the 'story'

I have had a good clear out since leaving work, and am trying to make sure that everything I buy works for my actual life , and not a nice idea of what it could be..( have been a bit too much like that in the past). But also I want stylish and good value, even if it is expensive.

I am a bit of a fabric and yarn hound Laska and I have paid for some beautiful hand blocked fabrics, nothing like as expensive as the dress and I am impressed that a big name like Toast are actually thinking about this and promoting it.
My feeling is that we have taken advantage of other less well off cultures and we have to take responsibility for the planet also.
The dress and skirt arent really me but I do applaud their efforts.

dudsville · 23/03/2021 21:06

Darn it, I'd got my hopes up about a toast sale. I shall wait, but seeing a comment upthread made me have a look through Seasalt... and so I've purchased the "canvas work skirt". Hope it's as pretty in real life!

Fortherosesjoni70 · 23/03/2021 21:15

@ToastCosILoveIt

That dress is lovely too *@Saurus72* but again, silly prices. Have they not noted that we are in a pandemic and going into a recession, plus greater working from home and fewer holidays for the foreseeable?
This definitely. Lovely stuff but the prices are just shocking. Such a shame. I cannot log on either.

It keeps coming up with sale on one of the tabs then vanishes. I do think there will be one fairly soon.

Agree about the new Seasalt catalogue. The linen wrap dresses are very Toast and much more reasonably priced. They also have linen jumpers similar to Toast Summer 20. Quite tempted by one of the jumpsuits too ...

Agreed re: cultures and planet. I would love to see transparency around Toast’s commitment to wages/investment in communities they source from though. As someone mentioned previously storytelling is one of the marketing techniques they use extensively but I am really unsure about if/that extends to action. Other brands (Arket for example) are much more upfront about where they source their fabrics from, I’m thinking particularly about cashmere. Whereas Toast use Chinese cashmere. I just wonder whether higher prices and the artisan stories have depth and integrity.
Templetrees · 23/03/2021 22:21

Absolutely Saurus
Interesting because I noticed that Seasalt are very open about the sources they use and have been for a long time .

Laska2Meryls · 24/03/2021 08:07

Anyone been able to log into their account on the Toast website yet? It doesn't recognise my email address ..

OP posts:
Illegible · 24/03/2021 08:12

Me neither - "no account found with that email" .

Countmeout · 24/03/2021 08:26

No when I was speaking to chat she said they were looking into sorting it.

Saurus72 · 24/03/2021 09:29

Tried logging in yesterday - big fat fail!

Laska2Meryls · 24/03/2021 09:32

Well that's messed up their new Spring launch then !

OP posts:
ToastCosILoveIt · 24/03/2021 12:55

I've emailed about the log in fail. Apart from the things on my Wishlist, I'd like keep my order history as I look at it sometimes! Yes, not a good start to the spring launch and the new website.

balkanscot · 24/03/2021 14:39

@Laska2Meryls

Yes its madness pricing.. maybe they want to appeal to more upmarket types than me.. I am lucky in that I have a reasonable disposable income these days, even though retired , but quite frankly its not 'pay over 200 for a skirt' income..

I was pleasantly surprised today by some of the new stuff in the Seasalt catalogue which arrived in the post , especially the linen.. Very Toast ! and certainly much better price I may have ordered something

I want so much to get along with Seasalt but I just can’t. It is just on the drab side for me, compared to Toast. Their brogues look lovely, though - going to wait for some kind of sale to nab the tan ones.

Agree re: Toast prices, I mean, £255 for the
Stitched Masa Shibori Cotton Skirt, yikes! I love the skirt, though, but hell no to parting with £255 for it. I also love the Tala dress (in blue), and still have my eye on the Anya shirt : patiently waiting for sales for that one.

Unable to log in either.

Laska2Meryls · 24/03/2021 15:00

I am back on but only because I went onto the chat and asked was was happening , and they had to send me a reactivation link ..

SO maybe those of you not back on will have to d the same

All details inc past ordered are still on my account

Balkanscot yes , I find Seasalt a bit variable, (although I do have a couple of their Bretons which i wear quite a bit ) but was really struck in this catalogue just how like Toast some things were.. especially the linen. I am not keen on the their patterned stuff on the whole but I ordered a red linen tunic so will see what the quality is like

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 24/03/2021 15:10

I was wrong regarding past order details some are there but the recent ones are not shown for some reason . also it only gives the costs not what it was ..
Still have my post pass working though

OP posts:
Countmeout · 24/03/2021 16:43

I can’t get along with Seasalt either, I have thought something looks nice in the. catalogue and gone into the shop to find something not just right about it and the colours are disappointing in real life. And I struggled with fit. I did keep a pair of brogues but they hurt my little toe ( sorry very moany post)

I just noticed this morning that that top I’ve ordered is made to order. No idea what that means. Will I have to wait forever.

luggageandbags · 24/03/2021 16:58

@Countmeout I agree re Seasalt, it's similar to Marks and Spencer clothes, the idea is there, often the quality too, but there's always something missing, the way it's cut, the colour too safe, the general feel of meh...

faustina · 24/03/2021 17:26

Laska's already said - you have to go onto the chat thing and they'll send you a re-activation link, then your account will work again

I really want to like Seasalt too, such lovely shops, a really great ethic, and very inclusive sizing etc - but nothing there seems to quite work for me. I have a pair of trousers from there which I thought I'd wear to death but they're surprisingly uncomfortable, and I find their bretons just don't fit properly. I did buy some Seasalt sandals as a birthday present for someone last summer and they seemed very pleased with them though!

Saurus72 · 24/03/2021 18:09

Has anyone bought anything from Pink City Prints? I’ve been looking at the dresses since last year but just wondering how flouncy they are in real life. Really like them but just not sure if you need to be size 6 to look nice. Am v tired generally of online shopping and longing to browse in actual shops. We have a week off in May so maybe a little shopping trip on a quiet weekday morning might do it.

balkanscot · 24/03/2021 18:50

@Laska2Meryls thanks, I have just reset it via their Chat as well. My latest order is missing from my order history but otherwise OK.

I forgot to mention that I did get 2 Breton-stripe T-shirts (Sailor T-shirts) from Seasalt which are quite good - nice, thick cotton, just the right short sleeve length and good fit. I like the wider Breton stripes, not thin line-like ones, and Seasalt seem to have fit the bill last year.

MrsCat1 · 24/03/2021 19:13

@Saurus72 I haven't bought anything from Pink City Prints but they do have a lovely window display of their clothes in a local shop that I have been drooling over. I'm very tempted to give them a go. I really like the peach blossom Jasmin dress....It looks gorgeous in the shop window.

Laska2Meryls · 24/03/2021 19:29

countmeout is that the Ikat trill top? I like that . It seems odd that its OOS if its made to order. Can made to order things be returned if need be?
