I love a grandad collar and have come to realise I really hate collars on anything unless they are grandad type or very soft.

ilovecherries · 14/03/2021 20:52

I bought the white tunic in the summer sale last year, and needed my normal size 12 as well, and even then I’m aware of it on the bust line, although I couldn’t go bigger elsewhere. It is lovely though. Hope you are happy with the replacement.

faustina · 14/03/2021 21:09

@ilovecherries - I have admired that workwear jacket too - it's lovely isn't it

The sweatshirt dress in teal is back in stock in all sizes - I was looking at it today if anyone wants it. It looks lovely on you Ilovecherries!

AmethystMoonShine · 14/03/2021 21:17

Also love that dress on you @ilovecherries it looks great! I’ve been wearing my Toast tiered corduroy dresses a lot lately. I missed the kin one in the darker colour but managed to get the dark blue Toast one after the sale ended by asking if they had one in my size, and they did! The longer cord dresses are great for this chilly weather.

applecatchers36 · 15/03/2021 06:51

Cherries the dress looks a great find, suits you. Like the sound of the tired cord dress Amethyst can we have a pic please?

Laska2Meryls · 16/03/2021 08:20

Its the JL blue tier cord dress that I have, Cherries your Kin sweat dress seems to be back in stock again so have ordered..

I do like the Kin workwear jacket .. it is very Toast like. ...Am still mulling over the Ashley jeans in prune..some varied comments on sizing though .. so not sure ..

Hey again everyone! 🌷🌷

Still waiting on Jigsaw order...

But I did receive my latest Barbour shirt - I love these for day-to-day wear at home. Bought new from an eBay seller so got it for a good price. It’s a Laura Ashley collaboration with a pretty floral pattern which is perfect for spring-summer.

This year's sale plus your lovely threads have triggered a Toast addiction here.

I'd been getting adverts for gorgeous clothes (and some very peculiar ones) for ages but assumed that they wouldn't fit me, since I'm a size 18, hourglass, distinctly generous, and lots of shops don't go that large.

But the sale tipped me over into ordering some things to try. Had to send several back because wrong shape for me, but I kept a couple of dresses plus the cotton velvet trousers and love them so much even though they're dry-clean only, which is stupid and a pain.

Going to order various trousers to try now; will report back for anyone else with a similar degree of roundedness.

Ninkanink · 16/03/2021 17:27

@iguanadonna Congrats on your lovely new clothes!🌷

I’m resolutely resisting ordering anything from Toast because I just know I’m going to become addicted and I really, really mustn’t!!

iguanadonna · 16/03/2021 17:38

@ninkanink tbf, most garments were hopelessly unflattering or strangely shaped or something, so came off and back into the bag very quickly. But the ones that worked are really lovely quality, both fabric and cut.

I'd more or less given up trying to buy trousers, at least ones without a lot of stretch.

ilovecherries · 16/03/2021 17:45

Welcome to the dark side iguana. Tbh, with Toast I find something just totally works or it absolutely doesn’t. I rarely dither about whether items are keeps or not, it’s usually completely obvious in an instant.

Chienloup · 17/03/2021 00:27

Hi everyone - I'm a long time lurker on these threads but have been a Toastee since about 2007. The website used to be Toast by Post, which I always thought was sweet.

I'm not a classic Toast shape sz 16, 5'7, ridiculous G cup boobs - but I have managed to get some beautiful pieces over the years which I have made work (and some things which were never going to look anything other than a tent hanging off my boobs)!
I've got my eyes on a few pieces at the moment, but I'm kind of holding out for a sale soonish, as every other shop seems to be having one.
Kin intrigues me - I have some boots but no clothes, but they do look gorgeous.

I am drawn to the more vintage-inspired Toast pieces, so I'm not sure if Kin will suit my style.

Anyway, lovely to join you.

ilovecherries · 17/03/2021 09:01

Hi Chienloup . Kin is def worth a look if you like Toast, as is CoS I think. Lots won’t work but it’s worth it for the gems. I’d forgotten about Toast by Post. I used to love the catalogues even then, but in those days I was far too big to buy anything.

Chienloup · 17/03/2021 13:12

The catalogues were lovely. The latest Toast magazine arrived last week - it's lovely too.

iguanadonna · 18/03/2021 12:59

Ok, my stuff arrived (impressively fast) so here's my feedback.

Sizing is too inconsistent for online sales. Sizes of trousers varied wildly. Also dresses in 18 are big on me, especially around hips. Whereas trousers often a bit small, especially around hips. Well, bum.

Cotton Twill Side Button Trousers - these are special. Old-fashioned-quality fabric and cut. Gorgeous flattering fit around curvy hips, bottom, tummy. The 18 is plenty big enough on me, which means it's a very very generous 18. But they needed to be more tapered to be really beautiful, imo. They look best with a turn-up, but they're already short (I'm 5'7", 172 cm so average for my generation), so that's a bit annoying. I get that Toast is about an unconventional cut etc etc, but I still feel like the designers could spend a bit more time looking at what actually looks nice. Anyway, they're keepers.

Garment Dyed Linen Pull On Trousers (Black coffee) - these look like I got them at Sainsburys. Without any great disrespect to Sainsburys - I'd have been very pleased to find these there. But not at Toast prices. Fabric and colour depressing. Small on bottom, not flattering. Very meh.

Cord Tapered Trousers - too balloony on me, though I gather from reviews that this improves with washing. Too expensive to take the risk, I felt. Actually I reckon they'd have looked ok if I were half a dress size less fat, but not keeping to see. Lovely colour (brown slate) and fabric. Feel and look like the quality you'd expect. Easy to move in. Love these trouser styles that are actually comfy to wear.

Felix Indigo Denim Trousers - really like these. Again I'd wish for just a bit more taper to make the legs feel as well-designed as the upper parts. They come up smaller than the Cotton Twill Side Button Trousers; I need to lose a few more kilos before they'll really work. Keeping since I'm shrinking fairly successfully atm and these will be a nice reward. The denim feels gorgeous. Quite light, will be a good spring/summer trouser.

ilovecherries · 18/03/2021 14:32

I said exactly the same about the linen trousers, except for a fingered Next rather than Sainsbury’s. I was very disappointed for the price.

Laska2Meryls · 18/03/2021 15:54

Teal sweat dress arrived today, sadly it just doesn't look as good on me as on Cherries ... I am just the wrong shape for it , so going back .. Also annoyingly one arm is definitely much smaller in width at the top than the other and the same shoulder is badly set . All in all very disappointing..

Still wondering if there will be a Toast Spring sale...there was about this time last year, I think...

Laska2Meryls · 18/03/2021 16:02

I am really pleased with the garment dyed trousers in bottle green.. Yes they are a bit expensive ( but I did have a 15% code )..

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 18/03/2021 16:04

... oh but those are the wide leg ones ...so different..

OP posts:
Fortherosesjoni70 · 18/03/2021 16:48

That's a shame @Laska2Meryls
Well my white shirt came in a 12 and it is really nice. The only thing I am not sure about are the wide side vents. They are really high. The material is fab though and it is nice and long but really not generous in the bust department or upper arms although this one is loads better.
So if you are considering it, true to size. Ignore the majority reviews. The fit is definitely on the small side. However there may be a difference between the green and the white. I am not sure. The only way it will fit you by sizing down is you are small up top and on the arms. Sadly, that is where i have my weight esp just now with lockdown pounds!

Saurus72 · 18/03/2021 18:53

Well @iguanadonna that sounds like a pretty good haul. But yes, how difficult (it seems to be impossible) cannot be to have consistent sizing?? Especially as you mention, when we’re all shopping online. It’s one of my biggest frustrations with Toast and it’s why I have to wait until reviews are added to the website before I can even contemplate ordering, it’s just too variable. I’m a UK size 14 at shops like Whistles and Jigsaw. My Toast clothes I’ve bought in the past year range from size 10 to 18. Just...how..?!

dudsville · 19/03/2021 20:47

Chienloup's comment made me wonder, what is a classic toast shape? All clothes seem to be modelled on the same shaped models. What shape suits toast?

Chienloup · 19/03/2021 23:27

@dudsville

I think what I meant was that for a lot of people the less fitted shape of a lot of Toast clothes, and the use of more fabric than many other brands can make them think that the clothes are better suited to tallish women with more androgynous figures (smaller breasts and hips). I'm thinking kind of Tilda Swinton.

That's so far from my body type, and I find it quite a balancing act to figure out which Toast styles will suit me.

ilovecherries · 20/03/2021 11:02

Denim coat dress from the winter sale.

Templetree · 20/03/2021 12:28

The models are all tall and slim but everything looks sack like on them tbh.
Its difficult to work out what suits you until you try a few things on.
In the end last summer thats what I did , drove to my nearest shop and tried on several things.
Im tall, slimmer on top, plenty of butt but a small waist.
Toast trousers are a dream on me, perfect and its so lovely after so long to find things that fit.
The dresses and skirts also work well and are LONG enough .
Sorry for shouting but its the bane of my life.
