I’ve been in bed all Christmas and on strong antibiotics so have spent far too much time on the internet.... shopping.
I’m interested to know what people are buying. I’m not necessarily looking bargains so much as interesting pieces and ideas for styling them.
I’ve ordered three things so far... and will now stop...
A turquoise satin midi skirt (Wolf and Badger)
A muted pink oversized sweatshirt with pleated sleeves (also Wolf and Badger)
A black oversized (yes it’s a theme) jumper dress from Arket that I plan to wear over the satin midi or incorporate into the mumsnet “Swedish Architect” look. I have half an idea that the sweatshirt will go over the midi too but that would be bold.
What have all you lovely people been buying?
Also any ideas how I can style a turquoise satin (not pleated) midi would be appreciated.

Not sale but been waiting for the navy dressing gown from m&s to be back in stock and it finally is so have grabbed that.

I do think delivery should be free these days tho, esp as most shops are shut at the mo.

CaveMum · 31/12/2020 20:01

@Sexnotgender thanks very much for the recommendation. I managed to track down a White Company one on EBay that looked to be an unwanted Christmas present (BNWT) and got it at better than sale price.

tappitytaptap · 31/12/2020 20:29

@Procrastatron I have a similar skirt but darker (Zara from last year) - I think that one is a bit pale maybe?

Procrastatron · 31/12/2020 20:38

@tappitytaptap you’ve reminded me I also have a similar skirt in a darker colour from Zara... must stop shopping!

A darker colour with boots and the big jumper would be lovely.

@JuneFromBethesda wear the Hush coat to the supermarket etc, you will feel fabulous! That's the most exciting trip most of us will be having for a whileSmile

ginislife · 31/12/2020 21:37

Not bought anything yet but have to say Wolf & Badger is my guilty pleasure. I could spend SO much on there (and do) !! I want to go to the store next time I'm in London Town

tappitytaptap · 31/12/2020 22:37

@Procrastatron I am now thinking how nice mine might look with a chunky black jumper so thanks for the inspiration!!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 31/12/2020 22:49

Fits but will look better when I've lost half a stone and got rid of some of the Xmas who am I kidding, first lockdown wobble, I'm going to consider it... it's gorgeous but when am I going to get to wear it 😂

Save for next autumn I suppose.

Ordered a dress and cardigan from monsoon. The dress I've had my eye on for ages and finally went to half price on my birthday Smile

Divebar · 01/01/2021 00:56

I’ve bought a creamy white silk shirt from Arket along with some wide leg black trousers. ( not sale). I’m waiting for some wide leg trousers to arrive from Cos and I will compare. I’m feeling unimpressed with Cos generally as I bought some sale boots just before Christmas and the heel fell off on the second wear ( in Waterloo station 🙄). I’m trying to be a little more chic.... broken heels are not chic however.

I like the dress over long skirt look. I have a jersey dress from Jaeger I’ve worn over an emerald green pleated or black pleated skirt. It’s a look I took from Karen Britchick.

Here’s the silk shirt - no breast pockets which I don’t like and despite being slim fitting doesn’t gape over my G cup boobs.

Wow you spendthrift lot are making me feel better about the £50 trainers I just ordered from Net a Porter!

Too tired to RTFT but will pick it up again tomorrow for inspo.

BangingOn · 01/01/2021 08:39

I’m on a massive roll now Blush

2 dresses from Wolf and Badger (one sale and one full price)
Mother of Pearl John Lewis top (non sale)
Aldo boots from ASOS
4 Boden skirts (not usually my thing but really liked this particular shape so ordered in 4 colours to try)
Biker zip coat from Sonder (non sale)

So far my return rate is 50% so I’m not feeling too guilty just yet.

evilharpy · 01/01/2021 08:48

I've just ordered this boyfriend coat from Mint Velvet which I definitely don't need.

Procrastatron · 01/01/2021 09:13

@evilharpy that coat is beautiful. Of course you need it!
@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind don’t save it if it brings you joy. I tried to start another thread on here about my new year resolution being to wearing a “nice” outfit every working day even if very few people would see it. I didn’t explain it very well but in my mind it’s a kind of self care thing to enjoy getting dressed in the morning even if I’m not going out. By self care I mean how some people do jigsaws or cross stitch, my project will be to maximise my wardrobe.

@Procrastatron I really like your thinking and want to try and do something similar. I have tried to buy nice clothes that are also comfortable for working from home and can be styled with ‘proper’ clothes, like the Saint + Sofia runway pants.

Procrastatron · 01/01/2021 09:27

@BangingOn someone on this thread recommended wardrobe apps so I got one and I’ve started cataloguing my clothes and creating virtual outfits. I started with my nicer every day stuff like midi dresses and it’s really hit me how I’ve drifted towards the same “nice” joggers and harem pants every day. I love floating about in an oversized midi dress!

I love the idea of a wardrobe app. I did start a Pinterest board a few years ago but didn’t keep it up.

I also love a midi dress or skirt at home, especially if it has an elasticated waist!

@Procrastatron I agree mostly, although it's a lovely dress and don't really want it getting ruined with kids getting sticky hands all over it 😁 might be best to wait til we can get back to the office, although that will be April at the earliest.

Rollergirl11 · 01/01/2021 10:03

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind I got this dress for Christmas from Allsaints. I was either going to wear on Christmas Day or on the 27th Dec when we were planning to see the one lot of family close enough to go for a day. Then we got put in Tier 4 and everything went out the window. Didn’t end up wearing on Christmas Day so haven’t worn it yet. Don’t know when I’m going to get the chance in the next few months but I’m itching to get in to it.

At least the jumper and dress are separate though so I can wear the cropped jumper with other things and the dress on it’s own in the summer.

As far as wardrobe apps go I have one but found the process of cataloguing everything in my wardrobe very onerous and decided i obviously had too many clothes. I then launched into a “ detox” process which has been on / off over lockdown and remains ongoing. Perhaps my perfect wardrobe will always be out of reach. I did also buy these white plastic tags / dividers to hang on my rails which I intend to label with the types of items eg tailored trousers etc. At the very least I hope to develop a capsule work wardrobe ( if I ever get back in the office)
