Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?

This dates my youth to early eighties I think but the only perfume I've ever truly adored was Anais Anais. I'm now 54. And I can conjure the scent in y imagination. Is it the fragrance version of mutton dressed as lamb if I wore it now?

@Jenasaurus

im a similar age to you OP, 55 and my perfume as a teenager was cachet. Cant find it anywhere now though
Omg I loved this! I'd totally forgotten about it 😃

I still remember Wishing, a cream perfume by Avon. My older sister gave some to me when I was at school. You rubbed it on your wrists. Gorgeous.

lasttimeround · 20/09/2020 16:17

Lucky you if it's still around in a recognisable form. I would love to smell again the original fendi perfume. Kenzo summer in the leaf shaped bottle. Body shop vanilla oil. Although I expect the vanilla will make me cringe.
Also my mothers unreformulated tresor and rive gauche. Both of which now have a scratchy note.

Courant was one I also had. Yours must have been a special offer as it was by Helena Rubinstein and not normally so cheap!

IHeartSusanDey · 20/09/2020 18:30

I still wear Tommy Girl and I'm in my forties!! You would have to pull it out of my cold dead hands.

pickingdaisies · 20/09/2020 20:47

Mine was CK eternity, and I bought a bottle last year - so disappointed! It's like a poor photocopy of a great painting. (Oops sorry, getting a bit emotional). Bought out and reformulated apparently.

LunaTheCat · 20/09/2020 23:15

I loved the original Coco Chanel - tried it recently and sadly has been reformulated to death and smells nothing like it used to.

OliveHenry · 20/09/2020 23:39

I really loved Nina by Nina Ricci, and was disappointed when it was discontinued. Imagine my delight when they revived it....... and the even worse disappointment when I got the first whiff of the apple-bottled monstrosity that now bears the name SadSad

I still have a tiny bit of the original left that I sniff longingly occasionally.

Since then I've tried a few, but nothing is quite as nice. I decided to stick with Rive Gauche as it's a classic which should never be discontinued, but it's not the same.

GuidoTheKillerPimp · 22/09/2020 20:52

@AwkwardSquad

My dad bought me Lumiere and I loved it. I still have the bottle, although it has no smell left now. It was reformulated a few years ago: sadly not the same.

DuckonaBike · 22/09/2020 21:06

Can you still get L’Air du Temps does anyone know?

I also have happy memories of Body Shop White Musk; I used to wear it when I was on the pull. Happy days.

TheSeedsOfADream · 22/09/2020 21:12

Yes, I think so Duck.
Though as for everything eBay is your friend if you want the old stuff. I have a vintage gift set with perfume and body cream. It's beautiful. Like Diorissimo it's sweet without being cloying and "pink" smelling Grin (on the perfumista thread we coined "pink minger" for those modern super heavy and sweet scents beloved of our teenagers!)

MartiniDry · 22/09/2020 22:33

Millie2013, your red box with colourful border scent is my all time favourite - Amarige.

I don't have any at present, nor any Anais Anais or LouLou. I will do soon since this thread has brought so many memories back.
Currently on my dressing table there is an original Rive Gauche and a reformulated one, Opium, Hugo Boss Red, Samsara, Ysatis, and Chanel No5 (the latter of which I don't much like).

Along with White Musk, does anyone remember the Body Shop's Samarkand?

LunaNorth · 22/09/2020 22:49

I used to love Poême. Takes me back to a happy year doing my PGCE.

I’m not sure if it’s still available.

Knittingnanny · 22/09/2020 23:24

Yes l’air du temps is still around, I even got eau de parfum online a few weeks aho

MadameButterface · 22/09/2020 23:27

I used to wear Samsara when I was a teenager - it’s not a teenager perfume! Now i’m a 44yo woman of the world it’s much more appropriate Grin

Craftycorvid · 22/09/2020 23:49

I still occasionally wear Obsession though it’s not the same these days. The original Chloe is an old favourite too; it and Amarige still smell like the originals. I really miss the original Fendi which got discontinued. Coco Channel is now awful! Smells weak and watery.

BaronessBomburst · 23/09/2020 00:11

I wore Ysatis and Mitsouko until about 1988 when I switched to Arpege. I stayed with Arpege until they completely ruined it around 2002. I actually threw the bottle away in the end as I never wore it. I have since picked up some vintage Arpege on eBay.
I started experimenting again a few years back based on these threads and love some of Andy Tauer's perfumes. I want a bottle of Sotto del Luna Tuberose but Covid-19 has made it tricky to get hold of.

REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 24/09/2020 13:03

Tresor
Dune
Roma
Paloma Picassso
Eternity
Rive Gauche
CK1

all make me smile

emilybrontescorsett · 24/09/2020 13:45

My mum still wears Anais Anais occasionally.
Wear whatever you like.
