Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?

This dates my youth to early eighties I think but the only perfume I've ever truly adored was Anais Anais. I'm now 54. And I can conjure the scent in y imagination. Is it the fragrance version of mutton dressed as lamb if I wore it now?

So many I would love to smell again, although LouLou and Rive Gauche are my most disliked scents of all time, instant nausea.
DH bought me a nostalgic bottle of No.19 , totally different, a shadow of what it used to be, actually upsetting that it has been destroyed.
Same with all the older Dior scents, they have gone, so sad. My best friend wore Cinnabar, but to me the eighties were Paris or Opium on almost everyone I knew. I had a Summer wearing White Linen, but it somehow wasn’t a good fit for me. My main teenage perfume was Diorella, which I still use, but isn’t the same. 😢😢😢😢😢

Had a perfume called Billblass or something from USA which was lovely

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/09/2020 12:24

Paris.

I'd forgotten about it. Used to love it.

I did wear Poison, now that was a beast of a scent.

Knittingnanny · 13/09/2020 12:43

Wear whatever you like! I’ve worn Obsession almost everyday since the 80’s and I’m now 63. Interspersed with L air du temps.
I would love to find a perfume from the late 70’s which was a cream perfume. Def not an Avon one though. I just can’t remember the name.

FippertyGibbett · 13/09/2020 12:45

I still wear Poison.
I love it and don’t care.

EBearhug · 13/09/2020 12:48

I wore Paris a lot at uni.

TheSeedsOfADream · 13/09/2020 13:08

KnittingNanny- L'Aimant? That came in a cream version, black packaging. Many repute it as a dupe of Chanel 5 but it's actually older.

Paris is still the best ever rose perfume. I may have several bottles stashed Grin

SirVix- Diorella has suffered a lot but not as much as Dioressence which is unrecognisable. You can pick up dinky 10ml bottles from eBay of the proper stuff. Lovely and skanky. In a good way Grin

Pomegranatemolasses · 13/09/2020 13:18

I've been wearing Escape by Calvin Klein for about thirty years now. Still love it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/09/2020 13:20

Diorescense is nothing like the old one. I wonder why they still bother with it. I know I don’t.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/09/2020 13:21

I had a period of trying to replace the originals, but now I moved on.

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/09/2020 13:30

I also liked Laura Ashley No 1, Givenchy III, Diorella. Flirted briefly with some of the real 80s power scents like Byzance and Ysatis. Two that I go back to, time and again, are Ivoire, by Balmain, which has been reformulated and is unrecognisable now, and First by Van Cleef. I’ve got about half a bottle of the original Iboire left, and will be gutted when it’s finished.

TheSeedsOfADream · 13/09/2020 14:30

Me neither Chardonnay. But I keep stocking up on the 10ml vintage bottles!

DustyLoafer · 13/09/2020 14:32

Estée Lauder Pleasures

ElizaB22 · 13/09/2020 14:35

I loved Paris bought it again and they had changed it Sad

WhatamessIgotinto · 13/09/2020 14:38

Ah this takes me back!

Rive Gauche, Anaïs Anaïs, Ysatis (my 80s favourite), Byzance and Red were all real favourites of mine.

In the 90 is it was Venezia and Roma by Laura Biagotti. I managed to find a bottle of Venezia last year and I love wearing it. I really want a bottle of Ysatis now!

WhatamessIgotinto · 13/09/2020 14:39

White linen always gave me the most awful headache.

pangolina · 13/09/2020 14:47

I got my first bottle of Gucci Envy when I was 16 and I can still conjure the smell in my head. I would love to buy it again.

Onynx · 13/09/2020 14:51

@WhatamessIgotinto

White linen always gave me the most awful headache.
Me too!! I'm so disappointed to read that Coco has been reformulated. I was saving up my Boots points to treat myself😥
ilovemyrednosedaymug · 13/09/2020 15:06

I have worn Anais Anais on and off over the years since the 80's and am 48 now. I recently bought 2 bottles as it was on offer.

I wear it because I love it and to me that is the main reason for wearing any perfume.

I do have several others that I wear, but Anais Anais is still my favourite.

StayCool · 13/09/2020 15:13

Anais, Rive Gauche, Fidji and my all time favourite - Ysatis.

schnubbins · 13/09/2020 15:25

@blisstwins you and I both had and loved the same perfumes.Laura Ashley No 1 was my very first perfume aged 14 .My friends Mum bought it for me on my first trip to London .I would still wear it if I could get it Anais Anais was my next favourite.Later on then Eternity from Calvin Klein. But such a pity that Laur Asley No 1 is no longer available.

schnubbins · 13/09/2020 15:27

White Linen always gave me a whopping headache too as did Roma from Laura Biagotti.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/09/2020 16:03

That would be the aldehydes, schnubbins. Stay away from Chanel 5.

vdbfamily · 13/09/2020 16:10

That is funny. I bought a bottle a few months ago. Wore it this week and all the kids asked what that smell was! Did not go down well.

Ineedflour · 13/09/2020 16:10

Why do they reformulate? Is it to 'modernise' or is there some problem with getting old ingredients or something?
