Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?

This dates my youth to early eighties I think but the only perfume I've ever truly adored was Anais Anais. I'm now 54. And I can conjure the scent in y imagination. Is it the fragrance version of mutton dressed as lamb if I wore it now?

A good friend wears Tommy Girl and it smells incredible still!! Donna Karan Cashmere Mist is my teenage smell. God I loved it!

andsoitbeginsagain · 12/09/2020 21:21

Jazz!!!! Teenage, hormonal crush central

Janaih · 12/09/2020 21:22

I still wear white musk and ck1. Used to love Giorgio, can you still get it?

I love Joop on men, which I've heard is a bit naff now apparently. I've been known to follow men round asda if I get a whiff of it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/09/2020 21:24

I loved Private Collection. I had a the perfume and it was gorgeous. Not going back there though.

Justgivemesomepeace · 12/09/2020 21:25

Get some. It's my favourite and I still wear it. I sometimes get compliments and the best thing is it's not expensive.

BitOfFun · 12/09/2020 21:26

AnaisAnais was my very first perfume. My boyfriend bought it for me at Christmas, and I felt so grown-up and glamorous- both by wearing 'proper' perfume, and the fact I had a boyfriend who would buy me something so expensive BlushGrin.

I'm really tempted to treat myself now.

Coldwinterahead1 · 12/09/2020 21:26

I love joop as well, they only way I got over it was buying my dad a bottle ! It only reminds me of him now 🤣

Martinisarebetterdirty · 12/09/2020 21:28

I recently bought my teenage perfumes, contradiction and wings - very sadly Gucci Envy has been discontinued so I had to make do with Jo Loves Flower Shop which is a reasonable dupe - took me right back to the 90s!

Janaih · 12/09/2020 21:29

@Coldwinterahead1 Grin drastic but effective!

Counterpane · 12/09/2020 21:30

I've gone back to the perfumes of my grandmother!

Yardley English Lavender, English Rose and a cologne stick of 4711 during the hot weather.

baggies · 12/09/2020 21:31

Kiku was by Faberge, I loved it as a young teenager in the early 70's. moved onto Youth Dew when I was at work in late 70's, and ruined many a jumper and blouse wearing it as it was brown. Nina Ricci l'air du temps was another favourite, the smell takes me right back. It's so lovely how scents conjure up memories and certain times in your life.

@dexterslockedintheshedagain

Does anyone remember Ma Griffe perfume?
Yes! I used to wear Ma Griffe, I loved it. Rive Gauche was another favourite. Ah, nostalgia!
BitOfFun · 12/09/2020 21:35

I succumbed Grin. £18.95 for 50ml on Amazon!

fantasmasgoria1 · 12/09/2020 21:35

I think you should wear whatever perfume you wish. To me unless it's a scent made for kids then you should wear it. I have a variety of different perfumes and I don't really care what people think.

AwkwardSquad · 12/09/2020 21:36

I also had an absolutely gorgeous Rochas scent in the 80s, I think it may have been Lumiere but can’t quite remember

Millie2013 · 12/09/2020 21:36

I forget the name, but red box, colourful patterned border, I want to say it was by Givenchy, but could be wrong

Chanel no 5 reminds me of my mum, I wear a L’occitane verbena perfume that my daughter occasionally asks my to spray on her uniform sleeve and I wonder if this will be the equivalent smell in the future

So many perfumes give me a sickly head now, so I’m reluctant to try new ones

Cam2020 · 12/09/2020 21:38

LouLou for me. I still love it, and Rive Gauche

I was just thinking about Lulu!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 12/09/2020 21:39

Oh gosh me too I absolutely loved it! In my 20s I moved onto Givenchy III then in my 30s Chanel Christalle...pretty much stopped wearing perfume when I had breastfeeding babies. Now wear only occasionally. I feel like Anais Anais would seem horribly dated now but it's so long since I smelled it!

FinallyHere · 12/09/2020 21:40

@TheSeedsOfADream Ahhhhh, lovely 😀

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2020 21:46

Yes! My mum had it, I loved the smell.

I was a Rive Gauche girl for evenings out, and Anais Anais during the day. I wore Anais Anais on my wedding day in 1990.

I didn't like Poison (too strong) or LouLou (too sweet).

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:47

@Millie2013, Amarige?
@AwkwardSquad, Lumiere, yes, came in a swirly bottle and the gift set was in an orangey red and silver tin. Me and my Mum went to a Debenhams pre-sale evening and she bought me one. She kept her Christmas tags in her tin. Smile

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:49

Drama- isn't it funny, to me Loulou smells a bit like Poison. Mind you Elemis marine cream to me smells like Poison too!

I collect vintage perfumes (you might have guessed Grin) and have what I call my perfume memory box in a big wicker hamper.

AwkwardSquad · 12/09/2020 21:51

This is the Lumiere bottle that I remember: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Rochas/Lumiere-Original-5147.html#

OP this is also my favourite perfume of all time. Brings back the late 80s to me in a way nothing else does. plus I just love how it smells. I fell in love with it the first time I smelled it age 18 but it was too expensive for me for years.

I bought a bottle for each of my teenage daughters a while back and loved it so much on them that I finally just bought a bottle for myself - it is my pandemic perfume!

Also love rive gauche and gave that to one dd too. She left it behind when she went to university and I have a spray every now and then.

AwkwardSquad · 12/09/2020 21:52

Oh that didn’t quite work - the little picture on the right, an old advert with the purple shimmery bottle
