Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?

TheoneandObi · 12/09/2020 19:13

This dates my youth to early eighties I think but the only perfume I've ever truly adored was Anais Anais. I'm now 54. And I can conjure the scent in y imagination. Is it the fragrance version of mutton dressed as lamb if I wore it now?

God. Now I can’t remember what I wore, was a dusky pink bottle I think very soft soap smelling, still sells today.,,was hugely popular for years...

Ikeameatballs · 12/09/2020 20:58

I used to love Ralph Lauren Glamorous. I got so many compliments wearing it.

Bluntness100 · 12/09/2020 20:59

Samsara it was so lovely... May have to see if they still make it
Cerrutti 1881 - that was also a fave of mine
Exclamation reminds me so much of my youth and body shop dewberry

popsydoodle4444 · 12/09/2020 21:03

Someone gave me a bottle of DKNY be delicious as a gift in 2004 when I was 19.I still use it every single day 16 years later at 36.

andsoitbeginsagain · 12/09/2020 21:03

I just bought Cerrutti 1881. Still smells lovely.

I recently smelt eternity - which was my first ever expensive perfume and it's not the same?!

I loved leau Aqua de gio, sunflowers and tommy girl - so reminiscent of different times....

Ooh and green tea

GinisLife · 12/09/2020 21:06

After reading a similar thread a few months ago I bought bottles of Oscar de la Renta, Karl Lagerfeld for Men & Arpege. None lived up to expectation somehow.

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:06

You need Anaïs Anaïs originale.
There is one called Anaïs Anaïs which is the reformulation.
The original is my comfort food perfume.

Rice Gauche and many other 80s and earlier perfumes, particularly the powerhouses have been reformulated due to EU legislation on ingredients so eBay is your friend!

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:06

Rive obvs!

Mamabem · 12/09/2020 21:09

Tribe (LOVED it!) and Excla!mation were my first but Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers was my go to until uni wgan and it was Hugo Boss Woman and DKNY... I've been wearing Vera Wang Princess for years now though...

Two of my close uni buddies wore AnaisAnais and so, when I smell it, it takes me right back!

Maireas · 12/09/2020 21:10

Anyone else remember Giorgio? It came in a yellow and white striped box. It was the smell of Wood Green Shopping Centre in 1985!

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:11

@FinallyHere, I have a similar Givenchy III story...going on holiday with my parents, I was almost 17. The woman next to me bought Fidji (which I still think of as being so sophisticated because that woman was, I have a bottle of the cheapo reform which is nice enough but I've got my eye on an eBay vintage bottle) and I told my Mum I wanted a grown up scent. She recommended I get Givenchy III, even the name made me feel fabulous. Got a big whopping bottle of that off eBay as well. Smile

Giorgio Beverly Hills!
TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:12

Giorgio was on the back page of every Cosmo in the 80s and early 90s. It smelled like sherbert. I never had any but I liked it.

TheSeedsOfADream · 12/09/2020 21:14

@Polyxena, it's been reformulated beyond recognition. You need a bottle with a gold line around the rim. I had a bottle of the new stuff and it mings. The gold rimmed still smells of sex and will have men collapsing in a heap. Grin

Coldwinterahead1 · 12/09/2020 21:14

The perfume of my youth was Tendre Poison. I’d do anything to smell that again

Anordinarymum · 12/09/2020 21:16

When I was 18 my dad bought me my first bottle of Chanel No 5 for Christmas. I adored it and have done so ever since. It's timeless and ever enduring and lovely.

Anais Anais was lovely as I remember it. I'll bet it does not smell the same now though !

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/09/2020 21:16

I’m still wearing Halston which was the perfume of my youth. That and Sex Appeal for a Women by Jovan, and the less said about that the better! I also loved Cinnabar.

im5050 · 12/09/2020 21:17

On men I love
Aramis can be hard to get I buy it for my husband
Korous for men
Jazz By YSL

Myself
Lou Lou

Anais Anais
channel No 5
Coco By Chanel

CrystalTits · 12/09/2020 21:18

LouLou (original, not the current reformulation) for me, and Venezia by Laura Biagotti which was my perfume of choice in the early 90s! Can’t get hold of it now though Sad

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 12/09/2020 21:18

I used to wear Cinnabar by Estée Lauder. No idea if you can still buy it and I'm not sure I can remember the actual smell. Anyway, it's all irrelevant - l lost my sense of smell a few years ago after falling off my horse.
