Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?

TheoneandObi · 12/09/2020 19:13

This dates my youth to early eighties I think but the only perfume I've ever truly adored was Anais Anais. I'm now 54. And I can conjure the scent in y imagination. Is it the fragrance version of mutton dressed as lamb if I wore it now?

Exclamat!on was the perfume of my youth..... I don't think I'll bother revisiting that.

EBearhug · 13/09/2020 21:23

I still wear Blue Grass from time to time. The last bottle was my mother's - it was her main perfume and probably the earliest perfume I knew.

Grandma60 · 19/09/2020 18:26

Madame Rochas
White Fire (there is actually a bottle of this in a MUSEUM in Torquay!!)
Climat (discontinued a long time ago and I daren't touch the little bottle I still have in case it's gone off!)

Anyone remember Azuree by Estee Lauder ? , when I was young and feckless I spent sooo much on that smell , even had the huge pots of shampoo and conditioner that cost a bomb..they brought it back some time ago but it wasn't the same😪
Now , decades later it's Chanel , like my mum always said it would be .

TheSeedsOfADream · 19/09/2020 19:36

I've never smelled Azuree but it's in the book on vintage perfumes I've got. Estée Lauder is very underrated for perfumes and most of the ones they do deserve to be classics.

ClaraSais · 19/09/2020 19:49

I love old perfumes (anyone remember body shop dewberry?) if it makes you happy, why not :)

MissBattleaxe · 19/09/2020 19:52

Age has nothing to do with perfume. Wear what you love and enjoy every minute. I'm50 and I wear LouLou and Anais Anais. My Mum, aged 73, refuses to wear Youth Dew as it's too "old lady", but I love that one too. I even wear a bit of Britney and Rihanna.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 19/09/2020 20:13

This thread is everything. We don’t even need to smell these perfumes to be transported back in time.
Caleche
Ysatis
Fidji
Kiku
Rive Gauche
Paloma Picasso
All the Estees and the unwearable, ubiquitous Poison. Fabulous!
I’m still wearing No 5 after 40 years, mainly because pretty much anything else gives me a headache. I wear it 24/7, no matter what I’m doing. DH loves it too (and pays for it Wink )

TheoneandObi · 19/09/2020 21:14

Dewberry! Yeah! Do they still do it?
Also White Musk from Body Shop. Slightly more grown up 😬

My first love was Ysatis, then I discovered Chloe Narcisse. I've been wearing it for over 30 years and it's just been discontinued. I'm gutted, I have half a bottle left.

stella47 · 19/09/2020 21:41

My first proper scent was L'Air Du Temps. I loved it, thought it was subtle and a bit clean/soapy smelling, wore it all the time. Then I was watching Byker Grove, and one of the characters was trying it and said it smelt like baby sick. And now I still love it but also get that it does indeed have a baby sick note, and I don't want to subject people to that unnecessarily!

louderthan1 · 19/09/2020 21:49

I recently bought a huge bottle of CKOne as it was on offer at Boots. I absolutely love it and have had so many compliments on it.

PickleASturgeon · 19/09/2020 21:49

Used to love Fidji and L'Air du Temps for daytime - Paloma Picasso for going out.

Anyone remember New West?

bythehairsonmychinichinchin · 19/09/2020 21:53

It’s not one of the first perfumes I wore, but I bought a bottle of Paul Smith extreme yesterday that I wore years ago. It smells bloody lovely and smells similar to a limited edition Jo Malone perfume I bought last year (which I keep smelling the empty bottle of).

I also bought a bottle of Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao a couple of months ago which had been discontinued for a few years. That is my all time favourite perfume and I’ll cry if they discontinue it again

SwedishEdith · 19/09/2020 21:54

@tobermoryisthebestwomble

My first fragrance was Fleur D'Interdite by Givenchy. I think I was about 14? I would love to be able to buy it now, the sense of smell is the most 'reminiscing' of the senses, and I bet it would take me right back to 1995.

I also wore Nina Ricci Les Belles de Ricci and then Lancome's Poeme for several years. I sat next to a woman on the bus recently wearing it and it took me right back. I did so many naughty things wearing that scent.

I've enjoyed reading all your perfume throwbacks

I have an old bottle of Fleur d'Interdit that my late mum bought me. I really dislike it Grin but can't bear to part with it now.
Doryhunky · 19/09/2020 21:57

Anais Anais, Rive Gauche and Lair du Temps!

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 19/09/2020 22:05

Perfume takes me right back! Miss Dior, Opium in particular...

Lollypop701 · 19/09/2020 22:12

Red by Giorgio and safari...

userxx · 19/09/2020 23:06

@louderthan1 I bought some at the airport last year, forgot how fresh and lovely it was.

Tomasinabombadil · 19/09/2020 23:12

I used to wear Anais Anais quite often many years ago too. Still occasionally wear it in the summertime only, I’m 66 now.

Jenasaurus · 19/09/2020 23:13

im a similar age to you OP, 55 and my perfume as a teenager was cachet. Cant find it anywhere now though

Jenasaurus · 19/09/2020 23:16

Found a photo of it but no longer produced sadly

Aibu to return to the perfume of my youth?
margotsdevil · 19/09/2020 23:19

@Coldwinterahead1 perfume parlour do a decent dupe of tendre poison...

CasuallyMasculine · 19/09/2020 23:25

@Maireas

Kiku was in that lovely yellow bottle. When I was a teenager I liked Havoc by Mary Quant. Isn't it funny how perfumes bring back memories?
I still do (love Havoc by Mary Quant) and I’m 59 Grin
TheSeedsOfADream · 19/09/2020 23:25

Cachet- Prince Matchabelli.
Sounded so sophisticated. I remember another one called Courant which was advertised in my Melanie magazine and I always wanted a bottle but it was 49p and I only got 25p spending money! Grin
