Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

I’ve just register for the Boots alert, I don’t know if I’ll get one as I’ve still got stuff from last year’s but I do like them. So tempted by the Arran one but I don’t know what any of it smells like.

I’ve worked my way through the Juliette Has A Gun tester box. My favourites are Not A Perfume and Lady Vengence. Another Ood grew on me, despite smelling of menthol initially.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/10/2020 15:04

I got a sample of Not A Perfume with my monthly Sniph selection yesterday. Will be trying it out at the weekend.

I am still calendar-less. Eyeing up DIptyque, potentially Latest in Beauty box, and checking occasionally to see if SpaceNK reappears.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/10/2020 15:07

I'm wearing the Peony perfume today from last year's Liberty calendar. I have been using it very sparingly and today is a special occasion. It really is gorgeous - I wish it weren't so very expensive. That's the problem of testers that cost a fortune in their proper sizes.

Ponks · 01/10/2020 15:15

@Dailyhandtowelwash the SpaceNK calendar is available to order now, just saw it on their website.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/10/2020 15:45

Thanks. I've sent the link to DH as a potential gift. I'm still leaning towards fragrance/candles given my existing haul, but I like all the products in SpaceNK. LiB is also surprisingly appealing. Cheaper stuff but stuff I use.

LoveEatYoga · 01/10/2020 15:48

just had a look at the amazon calendar and I'm not excited by it

I think I'll end up not getting another one. I've got Holland and Barrett and I might get a hotel chocolat

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/10/2020 16:27

I quite like the look of the Amazon one. It's a bit of a strange one as you've got some quite high end brands like Elemis mixed in with some very cheap make up! I've added it to my wishlist though so I'll get an alert if it comes down in price and I've got vouchers I could use. If it ends up being a bargain, I may snap it up.

poorchurchmouse · 01/10/2020 16:29

I bought the Arran Aromatics one thanks to a poster on this thread - it arrived yesterday and looks excellent, so thank you!

doadeer · 01/10/2020 17:18

Espa launches tomorrow I think. I love their ranges ❤️

LoveEatYoga · 01/10/2020 17:21

I love ESPA too

AsPerMyLastEmail · 01/10/2020 20:00

I still haven’t heard back from Holland & Barrett about my missing advent calendar item. Harumph.

I have been umming and ahhing about which one or two high-end beauty calendars to get and even whether to get two. I loved the Cult Beauty one last year but as I said before, this year’s is quite repetitive from that. But I did love the products from last year’s so...

I’m trying not to get drawn in to Net a Porter. Looks lush but as a PP said, v skincare heavy. I’ve still got some unused skincare from last year, and I really don’t need lots of little sample bottles and creams.

I’m definitely getting the Liberty one. Given I’d used the Cult Beaury products and can afford it, do I get that too? Any advice?

PrincessWatermelon · 01/10/2020 21:25

I've just had a look at the Amazon one. It's far better than it was last year. There's a lot there that takes my fancy, tbh.

I've got in my head I want Cult Beauty. But I've never heard of most of the brands, so just going on the fact it is worth so much more than it's being sold for!! Net-A-Porter also looks lush. Shame that doesn't come out after CB. That way if I don't manage to get CB, I could do NAP.

chloechloe · 01/10/2020 22:38

I’m tempted to get Liberty and CB too Email, but I’ve got so much product stashed away that I really couldn’t justify it. I’ve barely bought anything this year as I’m still going through last year’s calendars!

It looks like there isn’t any overlap in the products in the two calendars. If you can afford it and will use the stuff, why not?

BookSkark · 01/10/2020 22:41

That's my logic too. If it's worth that much, it must be good, right?! But I'm seeing it as a chance to try some new brands at (relatively) low cost - if I bought the full size products, that would cost a fortune.

I think I'm going to go for Net-A-Porter dinky because it comes out first. I'd be really annoyed if I waited for Cult Beauty and then didn't manage to get either.

Or I could get both...

BookSkark · 01/10/2020 22:42

Dinky? Simply! Swipy keyboard isn't as clever as it thinks it is.

AsPerMyLastEmail · 01/10/2020 22:46

Thanks ChloeChloe. Mind you my dilemma was also between Net A Porter and Cult Beauty. NAP worth even more than CB. In your opinion, which one of those 2 should I get?!

I’ve just looked at Amazon and agree it looks great. Much more make up orientated, which I like.

LoveEatYoga · 02/10/2020 09:24

I usually like the Fenwicks one. Good price this year.

We have nearly filled a thread!

g1c2d3 · 02/10/2020 09:34

Will the Holland and Barrett calendar be suitable for a 16-year old girl? Looking for a present for DH’s niece. I have the Rituals and the Lumene ones but no idea what is suitable for teenagers. Thanks.

LoveEatYoga · 02/10/2020 09:37

I would have thought so but you can see what's in it on the website

Maybe she would prefer something more "fun" though?

Maybe this is better for a 16 year old?

LoveEatYoga · 02/10/2020 09:37

(and similar price?)

Everyone is different but I think I'd have been more excited by this when I was 17 (but have H&B for myself this year!)

g1c2d3 · 02/10/2020 09:48

Thank you LoveEatYoga. Macmillan calendar looks great.

doadeer · 02/10/2020 11:03

Space NK has arrived! Needless to say looks beautiful

LoveEatYoga · 02/10/2020 11:15

@g1c2d3 No problem, sorry for typo above - meant to say when I was 16 I would have gone for that

Though not sure Soap & Glory and Sleek were around when I was 16! Blush

NandosPeriometer · 02/10/2020 11:43

@g1c2d3 There are usually nail Polish calendars which might be good? I definitely saw a Ciate one in TK Max last year.
