Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

So I wanted a AD with bath/body/smelly things & figured £80 was a good budget. I mentioned the White Company one to DH as it was my dream AD & he said it was very expensive. This morning I told him I had ordered the Rituals one which was a fraction of the price & he told me to order the White Company one as I “deserved a treat”!

So what do I do now??? Are the too similar to keep both? Do I send the Rituals one back or not order the White Company one?? HELP

ajandjjmum · 30/09/2020 07:30

That's easy - keep them both!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 30/09/2020 08:19

It would be rude not to Grin

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 30/09/2020 08:21

Any Santander card holders ... I had CB come up as 5% cashback until November. If you can get TopcashBack or Quidco cash back too that will offset some of the cost nicely.

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 10:37

Just a reminder that Beauty calendars are being discussed on This Morning soon.

Housewife2010 · 30/09/2020 11:27

It's at 12.15.

LoveEatYoga · 30/09/2020 11:33

Thank you I will try to watch that Grin

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 12:24

Can anyone tell me which the volumes of Christmas calendar was please?

chillibeansauce · 30/09/2020 12:27

Phil Scholfield is such a prat. On the other hand though I loved seeing the sizes, can't wait to get my spaceNK calendar, surprised though that H&B didn't get a mention.

ajandjjmum · 30/09/2020 12:42

I thought it was a bit of a non-event tbh - and Phil certainly couldn't close it down fast enough!

I8toys · 30/09/2020 13:02

I was annoyed there wasn't more a range shown - mostly expensive ones and unusual calendars that we don't usually see.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 30/09/2020 13:15

Holland & Barrett is currently available again online if anyone is waiting.

Housewife2010 · 30/09/2020 13:19

Phillip Schofield is dreadful.

BookSkark · 30/09/2020 13:26

Agreed it was so short they may as well not have bothered. I'm really tempted by Net a Porter or Cult Beauty - both daft expensive but I want to treat myself this Christmas as it's been a fairly rubbish year, but the lack of going out does mean I've been able to save a bit. I think Net a Porter is just edging at the moment as I'm more likely to use skincare than make-up even if I've already got enough to last me a lifetime

Just have to hope that my Harvey Nicks GWP splurge yesterday ends up on a different month's credit card bill so that DH doesn't notice! Although he was threatening to get himself a beer one, so it's almost the same.

MotherofTerriers · 30/09/2020 13:54

HN gift with purchase arrived today, which was nice and quick! Going to open it this evening

Blahblahmama1 · 30/09/2020 14:01

Long time Lurker. Order just confirmed on a Holland and Barrett calendar! I had a M & S one last year. At times I felt less than enthused at the number of moisturisers; little did I realise how useful they'd be throughout lockdown. I do remember how great it felt to have a treat to return to at the end of a hard day (in retail). Roll on December 1st!

RozHuntleysStump · 30/09/2020 14:39

Don't know whether to spread out some of these calendars... I'll be opening four calendars so far and I haven't even ordered any yarn calendars yet!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 30/09/2020 14:50

I haven't even ordered any yarn calendars yet!

Yarn calendars!? How did I not know this was a thing? Please share!

I was just browsing Boots for a little payday treat and noticed that the Macmillan calendar is half price, so now £42. Much more reasonable as it did seem massively overpriced before!

Blahblahmama1 · 30/09/2020 16:40

Yes, more please on yarn calendars. Is this a US thing?

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 16:48

*@IToldYouIWasFreaky I'm waiting for the really sloooow window to open in Boots so would you be so kind as to tell me whether the Macmillan calendar is mainly skin care or make up please?

Also, gift with purchase - is that where you get the calendar at a reduced price when spending a set amount ?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/09/2020 16:52

A lot of independent hand-dyers do yarn advent calendars. I hear about them in my yarnie groups and quite a few get sold out as soon as they release and you would need to have been a previous customer to hear about those. For UK ones check out Etsy, or Google them. An Caitin Beag or For the Love of Yarn are a couple that I know are well received.

I never buy them because I tend to see a crochet pattern that I want to make and then buy yarn to suit the pattern. Surprisingly I feel very different about fabric and yarn, I like having far more quilting fabric than I need and often buy it because it's pretty and think about how I want to use it later, but I don't like having a lot of unallocated yarn hanging around and only very occasionally buy some because it's pretty without any idea of how I'll use it. Mind you, I probably wouldn't want a fabric advent calendar either, I like a lot of control over my colours and patterns.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 30/09/2020 16:56

@SunshineCake Mostly skin care, with a few make up items from Sleek MakeUp, and a couple of make up tools.

Off to investigate yarn calendars! I'm currently knitting a blanket using scraps of sock yarn so if there was such a thing as a sock yarn calendar that would be PERFECT

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 17:33

Thank you *@IToldYouIWasFreaky. I have sent the link to DH as he is good at buying gifts so we'll see if it arrives. I am not hugely into wearing make up but I've loved having the M&S calendar products to use when we were in lockdown. I bought the calendar after reading these threads last year.

Coniferhedge · 30/09/2020 17:38

If you like crochet, Little Box of Crochet are doing an advent calendar where you get the yarn and patterns to crochet things every day. I also agree about Etsy - just type in ‘yarn advent calendars in the UK’ and loads come up. Also advent calendars for stitch markers are popular.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 30/09/2020 18:01

The Lancôme Advent Calendar is out for sale at £105
I really like it
