Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

@TBHno

Please don't buy The Body Shop! They are horrible misogynists these days Sad

Seconded.

The Percy and Reed hair oil makes me roll my eyes too, I've tried it several times and it does absolutely nothing for my hair. If anything it makes it look worse than using no product.

I really like P&R hair oil Blush but ive got some kind of styling balm ive not touched as dont blow dry my hair.

It was the P&R wonder balm for me, it was ok, not great but ok, until I got rained on/sweated Blush and my hair immediately became a grim sticky mess.

Oh and agree, body shop have joined lush on the vetoed list.

The one Percy and Reed product that I think is actually a miracle product, is the mist spray. My daughters have bum length, wavy hair and one spray of this, the brush just glides through. It seems to melt away all the tangles. It's crazy really!

I wish I would see it in a calendar instead of the usual balm. I have already decided I am not buying a calendar with Nars Orgasm blusher, P&R Wonder Balm, Eyeko mascara or eyeliner, or Eve Lom Cleanser as I have seen these staples so often.

The NYX one was really good last year and the year before, so I'm tempted to get this year's, also Revolution (again,) first got that in 2017 and I love having those. I got a Profusion one last year too and that was really nice (except for getting tweezers on the 1st, oh well.) I also ended up with a Sleek one which was alright. I'll see what they all look like wen they come out and decide. (Also will be getting a chocolate one and maybe a tea one.)

I got a Percy and Reid hairspray which was lovely. Gave the oil away I think, wasn't for my hair type.
What sort of products are in the H&B one?

My favourite time of year. Love a good advent calendar or 7 Blush

I am going to get the Liberty calendar this year. I had it in 2017 and it was so special. Haven't been able to justify the cost for the last two years, but 2020 has been such a clusterfuck that I am definitely rewarding myself with a treat!

Nickety, IIRC there was a very wide range for an excellent price...lots of really good brands like Weleda and Dr Organics. Skin cream, facial and body oil (a CBD one I think), lip balm, shower creams...the usual stuff but a nice range and all things you would use.

What is the Liberty GWP?

Last year, I got Glossybox, which was only fine. I also, thanks to the lovely people on here, got the Debenham's one. I thought it was much better than Glossybox, particularly for the price. My dd got H&B, which I thought was really excellent.

I got the one from Grazia which was brilliant. Previously had the m&s one and the Selfridges one but this was by far the best.

Gift with Purchase. I've been reading about them since Nana mentioned it. At different times of the year the luxury stores like Liberty, Cult Beauty, Space NK and Harrods offer a free gift worth a few hundred pounds, made up of mostly deluxe or sample sized lotions, serums and make up, as long as you spend a certain amount on beauty products. I think the Really Ree website is probably the best one for the details.

I've had M&S for the past few years but I'll give it a swerve this year as it's got very samey.
I'll probably get the Holland & Barrett one. The 2019 looked fabulous, so many interesting products and it was great value too, although I wouldn't be surprised if they hoik the price up this year.
I am also boycotting Body Shop over their disgusting treatment of JK Rowling. Shame as I actually quite liked their products.

I can't decide which one to get this year. Last year I opted for Debenhams. In previous years I've had M&S, Clinique, Laura Mercier.

The Elemis one looks quite good...brilliant if you like skin care.

Freaky I like the Body Shop stuff too...the Drops of Youth serum is fantastic. I always saw a major difference when I used it. But like you and others in this board I will never darken their doors again. Not giving my money to a company that hates me and other women.

Yes, it does. I like a bit of brand variety though. Ideally, I want mainly skincare and haircare, but a little bit of makeup that isn't a back eyeliner, a nude eye palette or a mascara.

Have you found you haven't used much make up this year due to lockdown?

Report
OchonAgusOchonO · 16/08/2020 13:07

I had a major presentation to do a couple of months ago so decided to put some makeup on. I was struggling to remember how to do some of itGrin.

I haven't been wearing make-up for normal work meetings and have only worn it a couple of times since March.
